The Yachts of seabourn are way more luxurious than any large passenger ship including QM2. QM2 as well as the new QE and QV, are all 6 star ships, based on the Cruise Guy (who is an expert in cruise industry) The cruise professionals, and Cunard is part of the 6 star cruise lines.
Carnival and Royal Caribbean both land at 4 star cruising. Cunard is a 6 star brand.

Cunard and other cruise lines are under the 6 star category and Cunard, nor the other company's under the 6 star ratings, boast their rating on their websites for promotional purposes. Experts rated them at 6 stars. I think it's fair. I don't think it's out of the ordinary. You don't always have to be wearing a suit on the Cunard Queens. Only formal nights.

Like in the New York Passenger Ship Terminal it said there were larger ships than QM2 in the Carnival fleet, when in reality QM2 is the largest ship in the worlds leading cruise lines. Wikipedia is never reliable. It doesn't matter how many pages there are, there are plenty of other pages that state opinions and can be used as a source.
@TITANICLUSITANIA, if you see an obvious error, why don't you fix it? That's what Wikipedia is about - co-operation, collaboration, contribution. Make an account, check the article for errors and put it on your watchlist. Then, if someone edits it, you can see whether he has made an acceptable, properly referenced contribution to the article or not.

Company websites and scientific resources are of quite obvious, but even with news sites you have to do some cross-referencing to remove potential bias. Forums are of course out of the questions and I rarely see personal websites that use inline citation (of course they should not be used as sources for a Wikipedia article either).
@TITANICLUSITANIA, there's also the problem that a good Wikipedia article is usually the largest easily available collection of information related to a particular subject because it might combine a lot of shattered information to a single location. For example my latest article lists 68 different references with inline citations, both up-to-date information from vessel databases and older data from articles that I found from the basement archives of our library.

My opinion regarding the star classification holds for everything, not just cruise ships - I don't want to see a restaurant rated for eight stars or an airline for nine. It just doesn't make sense.
@TITANICLUSITANIA, I think the people who review everything should sit in the same table and agree for a new classification system that give a better idea of what to expect from e.g. a hotel rated for some number of stars. No-one builds three-star hotels in these days, so the spectrum should be adjusted. Perhaps they should also leave room for improvement - e.g. QM2 is probably not the best ship that can be built - so that hotels, shipping companies etc. would have something to aim for.

In other words RCI can't compare in luxury to one of the oldest companies in the world, which currently has the youngest fleet of ships in the world.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, to steer our discussion away from debating about the rating system, I'm not sure if I even wanted e.g. RCCL's ships to be as luxurious as those of Cunard. Sometimes a casual holiday is better - I, for example, can not relax while I'm wearing a suit. RCCL could keep improving their ships without labeling them as luxury and leave the more "serious" vacationing for older companies like Cunard.
This kind of ships are for people who want to be jailed in a swimming supermarket.

If you really want to see the largest cruise ships in the world of today, check for the names Oasis and Allure of the seas.
They are "Project Genesis" class ships and the next largest cruise ship class is the "Project Freedom" class.
They have all been built in Finland in Turku shipyard.
There are 3 Freedom class ships and 2 Genesis class ships today in the world. All of them owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, who gives stars to passenger ships and since when we've extended the scale beyond five stars? Wikipedia says, regarding the 6/7-star rating of some hotels, that "such claims are meaningless and predominantly used for advertising purposes". You can't have 6 on a scale of 1-5.
I'm also quite sure that some of those smaller ships vastly exceed QM2 in luxuriousness.

The Yachts of seabourn are way more luxurious than any large passenger ship including QM2. QM2 as well as the new QE and QV, are all 6 star ships, based on the Cruise Guy (who is an expert in cruise industry) The cruise professionals, and Cunard is part of the 6 star cruise lines.
Carnival and Royal Caribbean both land at 4 star cruising. Cunard is a 6 star brand.

Also, quite many passenger ships, such as the Norwegian Epic, have a greater power output per propeller (24 MW), so having the most powerful pods doesn't really mean anything. Of course QM2 has four of them, which is kind of one-of-a-kind at the moment.

Some hotels at Bogota, and Cartagena, Colombia, Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico DF, Mexico, Salamanca, Guanajuato, El Paso, TX, New York City, Miami, Southampton, London, Madrid...etc. QM2 is still more powerful than the Norwegian Epic though. Things like you saying there's no such thing as 6 stars ate away your credibility. I didn't mean to call it an engine, but if I did a "quien le importa?"

@tupsumato Haven't you ever heard of "don't trust wikipedia" what wikipedia states is just a sentence with pure opinion and no evidence. Cunard and other cruise lines are under the 6 star category and Cunard, nor the other company's under the 6 star ratings, boast their rating on their websites for promotional purposes. Experts rated them at 6 stars. I think it's fair. I don't think it's out of the ordinary. You don't always have to be wearing a suit on the Cunard Queens. Only formal nights.

As for "pure opinion and no evidence", unreferenced claims tend to get removed from Wikipedia pretty quickly. At least from my articles.

@tupsumato Some wikipedia pages don't have credible sources, and(or) no one even checks the pages. Like in the New York Passenger Ship Terminal it said there were larger ships than QM2 in the Carnival fleet, when in reality QM2 is the largest ship in the worlds leading cruise lines. Wikipedia is never reliable. It doesn't matter how many pages there are, there are plenty of other pages that state opinions and can be used as a source.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, if you see an obvious error, why don't you fix it? That's what Wikipedia is about - co-operation, collaboration, contribution. Make an account, check the article for errors and put it on your watchlist. Then, if someone edits it, you can see whether he has made an acceptable, properly referenced contribution to the article or not.
My latest article had more references than my bachelor's thesis :)

Company websites and scientific resources are of quite obvious, but even with news sites you have to do some cross-referencing to remove potential bias. Forums are of course out of the questions and I rarely see personal websites that use inline citation (of course they should not be used as sources for a Wikipedia article either).

@TITANICLUSITANIA, there's also the problem that a good Wikipedia article is usually the largest easily available collection of information related to a particular subject because it might combine a lot of shattered information to a single location. For example my latest article lists 68 different references with inline citations, both up-to-date information from vessel databases and older data from articles that I found from the basement archives of our library.

Wikipedia isn't reliable, some of it's information is wrong, and/or it's based on opinions. The ratings given out to Cunard and other company's as 6 star ships is based on EXPERTS on the subject. I honestly wouldn't take your opinion into consideration (not saying it doesn't count, nor that it's wrong) since you're not an expert on the area.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, I fully agree what I'm not an expert in this field - I've never been on a real cruise ship and in the end I am more interested in the technical side than traveling. My opinion regarding the star classification holds for everything, not just cruise ships - I don't want to see a restaurant rated for eight stars or an airline for nine. It just doesn't make sense.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, I think the people who review everything should sit in the same table and agree for a new classification system that give a better idea of what to expect from e.g. a hotel rated for some number of stars. No-one builds three-star hotels in these days, so the spectrum should be adjusted. Perhaps they should also leave room for improvement - e.g. QM2 is probably not the best ship that can be built - so that hotels, shipping companies etc. would have something to aim for.

I never said QM2 was the best ship that can be build, nor the most luxurious.The yachts of seabourn have way more luxury than any RCI NCL Celebrity Princess, and even the one ranked in the same category Cunarder. En todo caso (anyhow) Cunard will always be ahead of RCI Carnival NCL Celebrity Princess Holland...etc. Like I said if you want a 1-5 star scale, then Cunard will rank 5, making RCI and NCL and Carnival 3 star. Believe me there are still 3 star hotels. Go to Colombia and you'll see many

@tupsumato Nonetheless if you were to rank Cunard and these other company's in the 1-5 scale, that would mean you have to go one down. Making Carnival RCI and NCL 3 star company's, and making Celebrity, Princess, Holland, MSC...etc. 4 stars, and making Cunard, The Yachts of Seabourn, Silversea, Regent...etc. 5 star cruise lines. In other words RCI can't compare in luxury to one of the oldest companies in the world, which currently has the youngest fleet of ships in the world.

If this keeps going on, in the future we might have 8-star ships, or at least ones that claim to be of such class.

@TITANICLUSITANIA, to steer our discussion away from debating about the rating system, I'm not sure if I even wanted e.g. RCCL's ships to be as luxurious as those of Cunard. Sometimes a casual holiday is better - I, for example, can not relax while I'm wearing a suit. RCCL could keep improving their ships without labeling them as luxury and leave the more "serious" vacationing for older companies like Cunard.
