Hi everyone. Glad so read so many pertinent comments for once on Youtube. Yes, Citroën did a great job with that suspension system. I'm french and worked in the US for a couple of years with a teammate of mine who knew a lot about all the Citroën suspension systems, including the one introduced on the first "Traction 15 CV". Passionates are everywhere and that's fine.
interesting, in the DS-s hydraulic system is actualy the opposite effect. The two sides of the front and rear suspension are interconnected, so when in a curve the body rolls, the oil is pressed from the inner side to the outer. It works against the anti-roll bar, and presses the wheel on the outer side to the ground. It is done so to maintain tractoin at both wheels, but this way the body roll is bigger.
There a three types of hydropneumatic Citroën suspension :
- 'classic' such a introduced on the DS (and found on the GS, BX, Xantia, XM)
- Hydractive (I, II, III) with one extra suspension sphere (one in front, one in the rear), such as on some Xantia, XM, and all C5 and C6)
- Activa, with hydraulic rams leveling the torsion bars, so the car corners perfectly flat (well 0,5% is allowed). This system, also calles SC-CAR is only to be found on the Xantia Activa (1995-1997) !
"Sport" on the C5/C6 isn't the same thing. The Xantia Activa was unique, instead of ARBs it had hydraulic rams which "pumped" the car up so to speak keeping it flat during cornering. The standard Xantias, c5s, c6s, etc relied on conventional anti-roll bars.
You are wrong. The hydractive suspension of C5, C6, is the evolution of the suspension of the regular Xantia. But, as you can see in the video, the Xantia Activa is special in that it doesn't tilt in corners. C5 and C6 tilt in corners as far as I know. In fact I read somewhere that C5 behaviour in twisty roads leaves to be desired.
Maybe answering my own question I copy from "citroen car club" article on hydractive suspension:
"[...]As this ensured the tyres were always flat to the tarmac, the cornering capabilities of the car went up dramatically. However, the Activa's ride suffered badly, and the body position sensors often disagreed, causing the Activa to perform a little 'dance' while stationary at traffic lights..."
"Hydractive 4 will, when it arrives, probably offer "dynamic levelling". Each wheel will have a separate height corrector and a pair of spheres, with each wheel able to be independently switched between a firm and a soft setting. Separate height correctors will help to ensure that body roll is kept to an absolute minimum - in effect, dynamic levelling, preventing pitch, yaw and roll."
Activa is the best type of suspension that you can get. Comfortable in cities with a lot uf dumps and humps in the road. And it is perfect on country roads with a lot of curves..
Do never wreck your activa, just rebuild it when something goes wrong!

If the other car was not a Maserati?
Citroën is already one of the best brands, right?

@lucastrinkler no it wont, it will stiffen the suspension but won't prevent body roll like activa

I would like to see a video of a Xantia dancing.

@sigkil because activa hydropneumatic suspension was really expensive to continue production... :-(
