I just got back from the fort wildrness campground today. I saw RIVER COUNTRY me and my dad walked back. it closed due to high amobea level in BAY LAKE, the park they swam in was BAY LAGOON it realy cool all of the flashback people most of had watching this.
The people running Disney now just don't get what made it so great. Seems like its going down hill faster each time I return. It's getting more than a little hard to go back.
The reason the place was shut down is because of an amoeba found in Bay Lake that can travel up into the brain and cause death. The same thing was found in a local lake near my place.
@silverwindghost Do they still allow power boats and Jet Ski's on Bay Lake? I haven't been to WDW in over at least 15 years, so I wouldn't know. One of the last times we went, we got to rent like a mini speed boat and drive around that same lake. I would think that would be closed too with such circumstances.
@m3jpnv I'm not sure, I know Bay Lake is used for WDW boat transport to Wilderness Lodge and other facilities on property, but I don't think they allow the public to access it independently. It's the same reason that swimming isn't allowed at any of the resort beaches.
@Jerry72able If you look on Google Earth you can still see the pool and the slides. I'm surprised Disney hasn't removed all the ruins yet, it's very un-Disney-like.

this video makes me so sad because i realize that not everything lasts forever but i dont want them to end i just cant believe it closed and now its gone forever
Hard to believe places like this are left to rot and fall apart. It shows even our biggest things will be earst from the earth like they never was there
The second Reason for the closure is true. in Florida We have a Parasite that has Caused deaths in children linked to Freash water. So its partial Health code and Partial Liability!
@magicwill25 I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, the last song is from the short lived series on HBO, "Carnivale". The OST is filled with a lot of haunting tracks like that one.
I spent a lot of time at River Country. Really cool place (for its time). Froze my butt off everywhere (that Bay Lake is COLD!), except the twin slides off the rock ledge (the pool you dropped into was heated). I don't know if Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon (both excellent water parks) would be what they are if it wasn't for River Country. The new parks are GREAT, but River Country was something special. It's sad to see what it looks like today. I prefer my memories. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for uploading this. It's so crazy to see how up and running and full of life it once was and now it's so desolate and empty. But the lights are still on and the music is still playing..TEN years later.

@xtinkerbell91x No, you're absolutely right. That used to be a lagoon, almost like a wading pool. Crazy, right?

@m3jpnv crazy alright, i can never believe these types of places are still sitting there, so sad yet fascinating, thanks.
