  • LOL! Too funny: the first part with your "mom" detangling your hair.

  • i love your videos!

  • that bit about your mum reminded me of my mum when i was little! lol

  • Your detangling method works so much better than what I was doing before. I used to try to detangle wet with conditioner but that was so hard because the hair starts to curl. Thank you!

  • I Love this Video. Its so helpful.

  • what type of hair do you think your daughters have?

  • "it was just, 'look. you're gonna get your hair done, i'm gonna brush it, it's gonna hurt.'" lol

  • im sorry about ur loss... i love this video though!

  • when you wash the hair do you you put conditioner on the scalp

  • Dear Nadine, I love your videos and I have one request on hair styling, I would like to know how you take care of baby's hair before it's long enough to style. How many times a month do you detangle, wash your girls hair? Thank you in adwance :)

  • @solzica82 Thank you! I'm VERY low maintenance with their hair at that age. I only shampoo hair as needed, usually a couple of times a week. I use a small amount of 'baby wash' (currently California Baby body and hair wash). I rinse and comb while it's wet. I used to use a wide tooth comb, but now I use a tangle teaser. I blot it with a towel and then add a small amount of oil - usually coconut or olive oil and that's it. I've requests about baby routines so I'll do a video on it :).

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls thank you for your reply, hope in future you are also planing to do bantu knots video :)

  • Oh My Gosh, I've been looking for a vid like this for my 8 yr olds hair. She is transitioning and her roots are SO thick and hard to manage! This will make Thank you!

  • @AtlantaGirl2012 I'm glad you found us! :) Detangling this way makes things so much easier. x

  • I have the same direct leave - in conditioner by giovanni but made very bad experience though. I only used it 3 times (including 1 time with watermix). My hair still broke and fell out.

Is this 'normal'? Should I still use it. I still have relaxed hair. Could this be the reason for this as well?

  • @missfavoured Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I wouldn't use it anymore if you had a bad reaction to it. I would look for a different leave in that works better for you. x

  • I wish I had your mom growing up around the corner or something

  • @SoTodayAtSchool Lol :). Thank you! x

  • OMG with the rat-tail comb! I'm sure I've commented on this video before, but just watched it again and had to mention it, lol!

  • @lanicert Lol! Smh, thank goodness we lived through it! :) x

  • thank i didn't know how tell now

  • @anime99fum :) x

  • @ChenelleAvallone Aww, thank you! xx

  • She did so well! I remember those days of having to get my hair washed and detangled. It was no fun. And it hurt!!! God bless you for making such a great tutorial. I wish this kind of information had been available back when I was growing up. Lol.

  • @NaiveBeauty29 Aww, thank you so much! Me too! :) x

  • love the video...you did it so good..

  • @LiaLocs Thank you :) x

  • I am a new sub. I love your contribution on the christmas video. I love it when you use the african accent. I am african too

  • @TheGreenlove87 Aww, thank you so much for watching our vids and for subbing too! xx

  • Your girls are gorgeous... I will try to detangle as you have show before washing --- to limit the drama after washing. Thank you

  • @MrsKDMelton Thank you! Yes, give it a try. I works out much better for us when we do it this way. Let me know how it goes :).

  • LOVE YOUUUUU SO MUCH!!!! GREAT AWESOME CHANNEL!!

  • @PattyOdette Thank you so much! It's great to know you enjoy our channel! :)

  • I do this to my own hair! and Im grown! lol

  • @yasmineply820 So do I! :) x

  • i tend to detangle mydaughters hair as i am styling it or w/ conditioner after washing. i really don't have a particular detangling session w/ her hair. how does this fit into your daughters hair routine?..b4 washing, after washing, b4 styling....

  • @tiffanyssweets I always detangle prior to washing or find any knots get worse.

  • Ur kids must love u! Ur so wonderful :)

  • @prttyladyb Aww bless you. Not when I'm making them to tidy thier rooms or do extra homework, I'm sure LOL,

    but than you x

  • Nadine, I love your videos, they are funny, informitive and interesting to watch that is way subscribed to your site. I have one question for you, "do you detangle your hair the same way as you do your girls?

  • @Nappalious Thank you so much! Yes, I detangle mine exactly the same way prior to washing :).

  • HAHAH!!! I laughed so hard at the clip of a "mom" doing someone's hair

  • @MsStudytime :). I remember it like it was yesterday. Ouch! x

  • ahhhhh, lovely vid! wish u could do my hair..lol

  • @suzieqshair Ha ha! Thank you! We have so much hair going on over here. I wish you could do mine! :)

  • U did gud gurl

  • @nathannaquin Thank you :) x

  • I love your videos, as I can identify with them. They are also so creative..and bring back memories particularly this one!! I have now subscribed!!

  • @blackndelicious Ahh, thank you so much! It's always nice to take a trip down memory lane :). Thanks for subbing xx

  • Where did u get the giant clips from?

  • @TheLeena7 I got them from a mom-and-pop beauty supply store years ago.

  • This is absolutely amazing! I remember I used to start cyrying as soon as I sat down! So simple, and so useful. Your video is pretty comical as well.

  • @jklabelle Thank you so much. I think if we can disassociate hair with discomfort/pain, kids will love and appreciate their hair more. :)

  • I love your tip about watching TV! great tip for raising kids too not just detangling hair :)

  • @naturalblkbeauty Thank you. I do find minimizing the amount of TV they watch has so many benefits! :)

  • This is SO true. We call it "clearing out" hair where I'm from. I know the pain of these "detangling" sessions with mummy! And you'd better not put your hand near your head or make noise. She'd say "you too nasty! you don't like your hair combed!" All I remember is I hated hair "fixing" days...it just hurt real bad!!! LOL....the memories! Funny thing was with all that brutality, my sisters and I had relatively long hair! Go figure!

  • @ltcartwright1976 Lol! I know exactly what you mean! We had long hair too despite my parents not applying the "natural hair techniques" we have today. I think it was because of consistency, low manipulation and always having our hair in protective styles. Thanks for watching :).

  • Haha...where were you when my mother used to do my hair?...lol. Great videos. :)

  • @ladyvee7110 Lol, I wish they had youtube when my mum did my hair too! Thanks for watching :)

  • Lol too funny but true we got our hair. Raked

  • This was VERY helpful... I have a tender headed 5 1/2 year old... so, I will certainly try these techniques...

  • @TJSol Thank you!! If you give it a try, let me know how you get on :).

  • @TJSol

It turned out perfectly! My little one could not stop thanking me :)!

    Thanks again!

  • Beautiful

  • I wish my mom detangled my hair that way!!! Can't wait do like you do!

  • We've all had the nightmare detangling XD my mummy would hit my hand with the comb if I ever touched it while brushing!

  • lol @ the hair combing

  • we just called it "comb out your hair" lol

  • Hi, I love this video!!! If you don't have leave in condintioner would it be okay to use regular conditioner?

  • @nikkichristinar Hi! Yes, I use a regular rinse out conditioner when I do a prewash detangle, because I wash it out shortly after. I use a leave in conditioner when styling the hair to detangle and/or add moisture, because I know it will be left in the hair for a while. Thanks for watching! :):)

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls thanks !!!! I tried it today and it made my hair so much softer!!! I love your video!specially the begining! Thank you so muuch for the advice ! =)

  • I wish instructional videos like these were around when I was growing up...Thanks to these memories and I can smell blue dax as I type!

  • I wish my Mom had had all of this knowledge when i was growing up......sigh.....

  • your daughters are sweethearts....the younger one is sooo cute with her big glasses, lol

  • I love this vid...very cute, very informative, very thoughtful:)

  • Such Pretty Daughter!!! You are blessed!

  • lol @ the flashback, i used to run away when i heard i had to get my hair done lol

  • thank you so much for this video! my niece has 4b hair and it is soo completely different than my 3c hair. Growing up my grandmother combed my hair the same way your mother did yours so i understand how painful it can be. Im am very excited to try this out on my niece because i am trying to get her hair to grow and be healthy

  • @abr1592 Thanks for watching! Let me know how it goes with your niece! :)

  • By far this is the best u tube tutorial I've ever watched!!! I loved your style and sense of humor. well done...well done

  • @bluebutters33 Thank you!!! :)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I love your videos. They will help us soooo much as I work with my daughter's hair!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I love your videos. They will help us soooo much as I work with my daughter's hair!!

  • What beautiful girls...all three of you and how nice to hear an English accent! Watched many Afro-hair detangling vids and am amazed at the time and effort ladies of African heritage put into caring for their hair. My eldest daughter has below bottom length auburn hair and I thought I had my work cut out washing/detangling/drying it until I watched your vids. But what a beautiful result you get!

  • wow, i love this channel so far. Lovely video and great quality. What type of camera do you use?

  • @anewmeePassion Thank you!. Sorry for the late response. I use a Canon Vixia hf10. Thanks for watching.

  • lol love it!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this vid and channel over all! I permed all three of my girls hair. There is alot of damage now! I dont want to cut their hair because they wont have any! Any pointers on transitioning them? What shampoo and conditioner do u use? Thanks & blessings!

  • OMG! LOVE LOVE LOVE This vid and your channel overall! Very helpful! What kind of shampoo and conditioner do u use? I caved and permed all three of my girls hair! :( I want to transition them but afraid i will hv to cut all their (damaged) hair off, making them laughin stalks....any pointers? Thanks and blessings!

  • @TheKjizzle09 Sorry it's taken a while to get back to. Thank you so much!! I'd use cute braid styles to transition, and gradually cut a 1/2" per month, ease them in slowly. We use Berts Bees Baby Shampoo & Curls Coconut Sublime Conditioner (love the smell of that one).I use Suave Naturals tropical coconut conditioner that as an inexpensive rinse-out detangler. I'm not loyal to these products though. I find that leave in products make the most difference. I hope this helps! :)

  • very helpful!! thnks

  • very help!! thnks

  • And I also love how you give your children healthy snacks instead junk.

  • @naturaluv85 Yes, we like to keep it healthy. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to keep them sitting still after a sugary treat! lol.

  • lol, reminds of me of my childhood and the movie The Color Purple.

  • @naturaluv85 Lol! Thanks for watching :).

  • Thank you so much for your videos!! I have just found you and am so relieved....I am a very white gal adopting from Rwanda and have never even watched black hair being styled, let alone done it myself. I am so keen to keep my daughter's hair healthy and beautiful, and I want to be confident doing it so she will also have the skills to teach her children one day. It is such a beautiful art form:) I'll definitely be following you-cheers!

  • @hollieferrall01 Ahh, that is so wonderful to hear! Your daughter is very blessed to have someone like you who cares about her hair and self esteem. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! :)

  • oooo lord ur videos are soooo funny and true i love them even though i have just dicovered your channel yet :-)

  • @Schokofy89 Ha ha! Thank you and thanks for watching! :)

  • Thanks for the techniques, it's for the most of us is not knowing how to detangle our hair back then which made us run so fast to put a perm in our hair.

  • @PalaisCristalLLC That's so true. I started this channel because I had friends who really didn't know what else to do and were considering perming their children's hair. Since sharing this technique they’ve told me that their hair sessions are now enjoyable, this makes me so happy! :

  • Sorry about your mom, it's so nice that you are sharing your wonderful memories of her with us.

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Thank you.Thankfully I am able to remember the memories that bring a smile to my face, like they were yesterday. :).

  • I could see my mom doing the same thing, using the same facial expressions... lol

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Ha! I know right? Like they were going in for the kill! lol x

  • I was referred to as "untying those knots"... humm yep, that what I remembered. lol

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Lol! :)

  • girl my mum was the same but my mum loved the ace comb lol

  • @bettytoo2 Not the ace comb! lol! Those hair sessions were no joke back then! :)

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls .yeah she just to comb it dry too. thank god those days are over .we both going natual now for the third time lol

  • lol lol lol you are sooo funny, im suscribing right now

  • @shaunishiab Ha! Thanks! :) x

  • Just found your channel. Love your videos! I spent practically my entire childhood in canerows (Caribbean version of cornrows) and I would get a smack on the hand with the comb everytime I tried to feel and see if my mother was finished combing my hair out. I shoulda had some snacks :(

  • @trinibug82 Ha ha! Yes, feeling for progress was NOT allowed...lol. Thanks for watching! :)

  • @henniexoxo Hi Hennie! You are so welcome! I am so happy to hear that!!!! Isn't it wonderful not to dread detangling sessions anymore?:). I'm so glad the vid helped. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching. :)

  • I love love love your video tutorials! I am an adoptive mom of two girls from Ethiopia, and I have been struggling with my 3 1/2 year old with detangling. Your tips helped us SO much! NO TEARS!! Thank you!!

  • Wow Love love loved it!

  • @keisha1030sd Thank you! :)

  • I feel your pain on your mom detangling/combing your hair DRY! Oh my goodness! I just love your videos.

Would like to see some on you doing your own hair someday?

  • Loving this Nadine! Please upload many more!

  • @purebrownsugar77 Thank you!! I'm working on it :) x

  • Whaou you take reaaaally good care of your daughter I mean the snack, the DVD ... my mother had to chase me around our appartement when she wanted to detangle my hair (not that I didn't need it) it was exhausting for both of us so I am glad you can help people know how to take care of their children's hair.

  • @Goldniz Lol! Thank you! I remember those days when I was a kid too! :) Thanks for watching x.

  • Thanks for posting these video's. My daughter is mixed race and I'm on a steep learning curve, learning to look after her hair. BTW I LOVE the 'clips' you do of your mum, they are very funny and remind me of my (my husband's) family. I've been lead to believe 'Vaseline' will treat just about anything!!

  • @taekwondogirl1973 You are so welcome. Ha ha ha! So you know exactly what I mean! Is there anything they think Vaseline can't do?!?! :). Thank you so much for your feedback. Knowing I can offer a little help to someone along the way is what motivates me.

  • I LOVE your accent!

  • @Lolzatyourfacemoo Ahh, thanks! :)

  • I don't know why but black women w/ U.K. accents is the most beautiful and sexiest thing to me. It's just amazing. I love it. And you're very beautiful which adds the icing to the cake. Your daughter's a cutie.

  • @KTBEverlasting Thank you! Thanks for watching too! :)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HIS VIDEO

  • @0110tasha You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!

  • i love this video. My parents are from Ghana. My house looked like that every Saturday. smdh

  • @blukiss1920 Thank you! Yep, hair days were not the most fun in our house either :)

  • Thank you for this video! Very very well done. Your daughters are beautiful! Take care

  • @ititymichelle Thank you so much and thanks for watching!

  • We like your video as well, but for the mothers who have daughters that just won't sit for long-you should try the Take Down Remover Cream. It will hasten the detangling process while softening the hair extremely. Its hard for a mother to hear her precious daughter cry in pain-even if its really because they just don't want to sit. Keep up the great work.

  • @hairstyleremovers Thanks!

  • This is why I know your channel is going to be a firm favourite of mine! I don't have kids but something this basic never occured to my mum when I was little. Your daughter's hair is definitely 4b because that's how mine stretches and shrinks -lol!

  • @lolascrib lol. Thanks! I'm glad the vid helped. I remember dreading the comb when I was young. It's nice to see my daughters not having the same fears as I did :). Thanks for watching!

  • oh my God oh my God..I tried this technique and not one tantrum from my daughter. You are absolutely the best. Keep the videos coming!!!

  • @sexich33ks That's brilliant!!!! I'm so glad it helped. Our detangling sessions are a breeze too. :) Happy New Year!

  • @2BHerself73 Thank you!! You can purchase the small bottles of Giovanni Direct Leave in Conditioner from Wal-Mart in their natural section, but I get an amazing deal on 1 liter bottles from a website called Massage Warehouse.

they won't let me post the link. You can go to their site and do a search for Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner and pick the size you want or cut and paste this in google: Massage warehouse Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner. Hope this helps. Happy New Year! x

  • I should really be in bed but I am glued to your videos! Thanks so much for the effort it took to create these. They are really well done and I feel like I've learned a lot from watching them. I cant wait to try out your braiding techniques on my daughter, as many times I've tried somehow seeing your demo makes it looks possible! lol

I'd love to see videos on additional hairstyles for little girls.

  • @teatiiiime Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment! I'm glad you find the vids helpful. I have lots of styles that I can't wait to share with you guys, so stay tuned and Happy New Year! x

  • i dont have kids but i found this helpful! i never thought of detangling before i wash...i usually just dive into the whole shampoo routine. Thanks for the great tip! hopefull i can stop cutting tangles outa my hair everyday

  • @sbgal13 I'm so glad you found it helpful. Detangling before has made a huge difference for me. Let me know how you get on.

  • Your childhood memories are a lot like mine, lol. Except my parents had an American accents, and my father often did my hair, too. Otherwise pretty much the same.

These are nice videos. I'm going to have to get those clips. They look gentle and useful

  • @mwedzi Thank you. I'm glad you found them helpful. Actually my dad did our hair too! There were 4 of us, so every Sunday my mum did two of us and my dad did the other two. Looking back that was actually a really cool thing. :)

  • Great video! People need to understand the importance of detangling and moisturizing. The funny thing is, I've shown this video to three separate people who've each said (in their own way) that your daughter's hair is not "real" 4b or 4c textured hair because it's not as dry, tight, tangly as the 4b/4c they've experienced or seen. I've tried to explain that that's due to the way you take care of it, but they don't believe me. Very interesting. Anyway, great vid!
