Personally I don't know why everyone rags on Bones. He and Jim have been bestfriends for a long time as well, why shouldn't they be close? I think that it's all Kirk's fault for being a womanizer and chaising after the women then taking care of his two best friend's needs...

@CalifornicationDani McCoy dosn't steal attention. as Spock has said many times they are all friends. not just bones and kirk or just spock and kirk. bones and spock are also friends and in some ways they're closer then either of them are with kirk they just fight a lot.

That was from "City on the Edge of Forever", right after Edith Keeler gets hit by the truck and Spock stops Kirk from running into the street and saving her.

Actually, Kirk stops McCoy from running out into the street because Kirk knew that Edith had to die, but McCoy didn't. Spock wasn't hugging anyone.
