you can use bog cotton as initial tinder , works very well, also lots of dry grass is availible near bogcotton.

You can catch the birch bark on fire without cotton or napkins. Just scrape the bark with your knife until you get a pile of shavings and strike your ferro rod on it.

you will not usually have a napkin if you are stuck in the wild so you should use whool from your socks or scrape the bark so it is like shavings but still atached to the wood, look at outher tutorials on how to get tinder

if u dont have a flint. but u have a lighter. but the lighter is dead. u still have a source of fire!!! if u use the wheel to grind the flint without sparking it, u will collect the dust. it is fairly tedious, about a minute or two of rolling should do. collect that dust on paper(thin is better[got zig zags?? lol]) if u have rolling papers, so much the better. once collected on your tinder in a manner consistent with catching fire, use dead lighter to create spark in pile of dust. voila!

depends on the flint natural flint is a rock and the metal from wat you are strikeing it with is what makes the sparks metal magnium is used in alot of firesteels because it burns very hot useing a magnisuim fire starter makes it alot easyer to use

you do realize you don't actually need that napkin don't you? you just scrape the birch bark with the edge of a knife until you have a nice pile of very fine shavings. Then strike your spark into it.

magnesium doesn't create a spark does it? I don't have a clue to be honest but my flint is a tube of flint like a straw size just not as long and it sits on a 2x2" brick of magnesium with a chain and a metal saw thingy that you scrape on the flint to get a spark, but i cant get one from the magnesium, is it better to use magnesium? if so.. how do i get a spark from it?
