Dawkins made an excellent point in the God Delusion that religious beliefs are given more weight than OTHER kinds of beliefs because we are trained to since birth to view such beliefs as "sacred" and unquestionable and that to criticize beliefs amounts to criticizing individuals who believe. If I am from a Jewish background for example and consider myself ethnically Jewish I may or may not follow "kosher laws" Some consider me not really Jewish then because I don't believe in those laws or even in God. But my ethnic background is still Jewish. There is a semantic problem of WHO is "Really Muslim"
