  • Ok, I have a question. Are we supposed to use our left hand, or are you using your left so it's easier for us to use our right?

  • @V3ryan Use your "dominant" hand to fingerspell. I'm left-handed, so my left hand is my dominant hand. :)

  • @V3ryan Ok. I'm left handed too, so I can continue using it. I just thought maybe you were doing it so we could mirror you or something.

  • No a~fence but are yo deaf

  • @maria081926 No offense taken. Yes, I am.

  • This was very helpful, thanks!!

  • @rld90 You're welcome! Feel free to check out my other video on the alphabet. It's MUCH better!

  • I love the Z. =)

  • this was great thanks! i had to learn the alphabet as homework for a class i'm taking and i was kind of panicking. this helped a lot! :)

  • Check out my other videos. I've got better videos now for helping with fingerspelling. Glad you enjoyed this one!

  • ok this is easy. =] helped in learning the letters, but when u say whole words do u spell it out letter by letter?? cause i have seen love been expressed in one motion and not all letters of "i love you"

  • Well, the answer isn't quite that straightforward. Some words are fingerspelling that is known as "loan signs" - where only part of the word is spelled or spelled with a unique hand movement (CAR, JOB, BUSY, BUS, etc all come to mind). the "I Love You" handshape is a combination of the letters I, L, and Y. This has become a "sign" as well.

    Hope that helps!

  • Are there diffrent ways to spell because in an expertvillage video I saw "A" was the same but facing down, k, p, m, n, and maybe a few others were a little different in either the direction the hand was in or the formation of the letter?

  • Unfortunately the "expertvillage" videos have a number of errors in them. I would not recommend them for learning ASL.

Now, some letters may have SLIGHT variations on them, but you can rest assured that the letters you see spelled in my video are accurate.

  • Oh! Good to know, thanks.

  • um hello...TOO FAST

  • Um hello... Read the note on the right side - "If it is too fast for you, simply pause it as needed."

    Have fun with it.

  • ooohh...I see now! :)

i usually dont read the things on the side because most of the time they are just describing what's on the video and i already know what's on it!!

  • No problem. *smile* Glad to help.

  • Thanks!!

  • Well coming from someone who doesn't know the alphabet. How do people who know how to sign feel about this, is this good?

  • Good question. Let's ask someone who knows how to sign...

Hi! I'm Rob. I'm Deaf and I know how to sign. I am certified in the state of Texas to teach ASL from EC to 12th grade. I have taught ASL at high school, community education, and college levels. I have an associates degree in Sign Language Studies, a bachelors of university studies degree in secondary education with an emphasis on American Sign Language, and a masters degree in Deaf Education. I think this video is good. Any questions?

  • Awesome, I didn't mean any offense. I have been trying to learn the alphabet. I have seen different videos and seen some criticism on a couple(finger positions on certain letters). I just want to learn the right way. Thanks for this resource.

  • im all over that skill :P

  • awesome! thanks.

  • Yay! I can do it know lol
