  • Kid's these days will never know the feel from the 90's ;) Those were true gameing years.

  • Wow.. interesting topic! Saw this in your FB group! You aren't alone Rob.. I don't own any of the current gen consoles too. But recently I've been planning to get a PS3.. just for the Blueray and media center capabilities.. Playing PS3 games would be an added bonus. Total opposite eh? LOL. Great discussion!!

  • Thanks for the comment! Well I admit if I wanted a BLU Ray player than no question hands down it would be a PS3!

  • The newest system I have is a ps2 and mainly use that for a dvd player. Retro games and systems is all I need in my opinion. I personally don't agree in emulators though.

  • Real hardware is my first choice. Emulators are great when I either don't have the console or computer or I am not in a position to take it out of storage or unpack it. Of course my first choice would be to own every console and retro computer sometimes not possible or worth it, in this case emulation will do in a pinch...............

  • Also, I totally agree with you that newer consoles are WAY too much like PC's.

I've never really enjoyed the "buggy" nature of PC gaming.

  • Nice vid, Rob. I don't own a current gen console either. I'd love a 360 if it was reliable.

As it is PS2, Genesis, and Dreamcast are my main consoles.

  • Great response matey :)

  • Thanks!

  • Nice video - maybe I should do a response, too ;-D

  • For sure you should!

  • nice vid, gonna have to do a vid response too :D

  • Your right,it does get a bit overwhelming with the patches and other needed upgrades just to play a game. I love the current gen stuff as much as the retro gaming consoles but I tend to play the older ones more. 5 stars.

  • Thanks!

  • I agree with you, I really enjoy the simplicity of the ol'school a lot. I still play the new stuff too, but to be honest most of my time is playing the older stuff. You cracked me up when you said ". . . your done, Bob's your uncle.". LOL Great stuff man.

  • Thanks man, I know you get it!

  • CASE ,POINT

    MEGAMAN 9

  • True enough, we need to see a lot more like that I think.

  • I totally agree with you man.

I'm an "old schooler" like you., but I'm a Sony fanboy, so I had to have a PS3. And you're absolutely right.., everything now is a download this., download that., update this, update date that..., and for an old schooler like myself, it's frustrating. You can't just put in a game and go now.

You HAVE to have an internet connection to survive.

  • I am a Sony fan too, loved both original PS1 and PS2!

  • ITs a diffuclt one for sure. This was the first generation where I didnt rush out and buy each system from the off. At the moment I have a PS3 (mainly for Bluray) and a 360 but I only picked them up quite recently because they seem more like fast running PC's these days than actual consoles. Though I do love the retro HD side that happens for the 360 especially when they remake something like Sensible Soccer and add a decent online mode.

  • Cool, well perhaps in time if I spot a great deal on a package I will slowly get into the current gen systems, no rush until then. I was cut short but the other point I meant to add was I have literally hundreds of games between my consoles and PC that I have yet to do anything more with then check that they booted OK so I am good for a long time.........

  • The game collecting (for me at least) is just as bad with my retro system. I have literally piles of games and I just know I will never dedicated the amount of time a lot of them need which is a shame. But thinking back 20 or so years ago when I could barely afford 1 cartridge game every few months its quite funny to think I'm overloaded with them now. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

  • awesome response man!

  • Glad you liked it!

  • I feel you, MaximumRD. I've been going back and forth about a 360 and HDTV forever. When it comes right down to it, it just seems redundant if you have a PC gaming rig. On the other hand, it would be lovely to have these around just to see what all the fuss is about, and I'm sure I'd get a kick out of all of them.

  • Appreciate i am not the only one. I am sure as usual I will check them all out eventually. I like to tinker, hack and experiment and sooner or later I will get the bug to check out the current stuff likely as the next gen stuff is appearing lol!

  • I have the same thoughts...Though they're being clever by offering better bundles and models as time goes, cranking up the price of course. You get into that "well, if I wait 3 months, I'll be able to get much bigger hard drive for the same price" cycles...!

I did get a chance to play with Bill's 360 and XLA for awhile, and I could see at once how much fun it was. Lots of great multiplayer stuff, too. Just can't afford it right now, though.

  • my thoughts exactly when i first saw the 360. "what happened to the good ol' times when you popped in a game, pressed start and start enjoying it?"

however, owning a ps3 made me see WHY this happened. i really appreciate all the possibilities that the sony console (just like the 360) gives us.
