I had the opportunity to see these Festival while working in Thailand. I saw few guys doing what is shown in this video but using objects that you can't even imagine. BTW, they are all sober while doing this.

I was in Phuket for the entire 10 day festival so I saw everything! The guy getting pierced in the video is a friend of mine, so I know all the religious beliefs and ceremonies that are behind the fesitval. I was invited to a lot of things that tourists dont go to, I was even invited to walk in the procession of the temple and the closing procession, it was amazing!
