  • Thanks for this clip. Hadn't seen it before, and I never get enough of RA. Another example of his incredible acting skills. And on top of that, he is absolute perfection.

  • who does Richard play in Macbeth?

  • I really do wish that the shot was a medium wide on Richard when he finds out his family's been killed, rather than a wide shot. He's a remarkable actor; so intricate in his choices, and each one is perfectly apparent on his face and in his body. I would have loved to see the torment and grief in his eyes: it would be so heart-wrenching, but so spectacular; certainly very memorable, especially for a moment that's so integral in the story.

My god, what a marvelous actor.

  • *double thud*

  • wow they're such amazing performers!

  • aaah Richard Armitage and James McAvoy, two of my favorites actors together!! I'm in heaven now lol...

  • RICHAAAAAARD<3

  • it's spelt Macbeth

  • He's not the beautiufl Sir Guy here but he still knows his way round with a blade!

  • I bought the dvd at a U.S. Barnes & Noble store--not online 10months ago. I have a big Shakespeare collection, and this was a good addition. Interesting updates, without the silliness of Luhrman. And of course Keeley Hawes playing Lady M.--did she tip off RA about "Spooks"?

  • Macbeth deserved it. Go Macduff, love you RA...

  • Richard Armitage murdered James McAvoy!

    Alisa,

by showing me this last scene you`d rushed me in an unbearable conflict with which I`ll be surely preoccupied with the whole night long.

Not that I don`t want to spend the night with them...No, but I`m not good at making decisions.

Well, finally I made the decision to watch the whole film (poor me)...if only I could find it.

So, if you have some more material or scenes, you`re welcome.

I`m looking forward to be tortured by you.

  • In the US, you can order it through NetFlix, but I'm not sure if they have a European base or not. I also ordered the vid through Amazon. It's under "Shakespeare Retold" and includes not only Macbeth, but Taming of the Shrew with Rufus Sewell, Much Ado About Nothing with Damian Lewis and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

  • If Richard Armitage's beauty hurt him, he'd be in agony 24hrs per day ... Or, to put it plainly, the man's gorgeous!!!

  • Wow! Two of my favourite actors in one piece! It can't get any better!

  • that was gud... but youve spelt macbeth wrong!! lol

  • Could it be any better? James McAvoy and Richard Armitage in 1 masterpiece!!!!!!!! TOGETHER!!!! *thud*

  • He's a good and sexy MacDuff. But I kinda wish they'd modernized some more of that part. I did like that they showed macbeth as a lunatic before he died. HOpe i get to see the wole thing someday

  • Did you happen to find the original on the web? I'd love to know where you found it.

  • I sure did! I used Emule to download it.

  • That was really sad--especially the scene where he finds out his wife and children are dead :(... I dont get the scene at the end though that looks like a landfill. what was that supposed to represent?

  • Marianne, I'm guessing that's where the guy's body ended up? (Was that Macbeth?) How the mighty have fallen, that type of thing.

  • r u guys talkign about keely? is she still in spooks? this woman is too lucky, shes married to matthew macfayden grrrrrrr darcy, and now she gets richard as well? so not fair

  • Yes even in a small role like this he's brilliant.

That scene where he finds out his wife and daughters are dead......so moving.

  • isn't she the sister of harry in vicar of dibley?? (1:03)

  • Yes,she certainly is!

And, if I am not mistaken, she might also be co-starring with Richard in Spooks now! :0)

  • thanks for clarifting that! i was raking my brain as to where i've seen her before!

  • Richart and James boyh in the same movie! I think i just gone blind from all that beauty and talent. I can die happy now.

  • OMG! I agree. Love James and Richard!!

  • whio does richard play in this

  • never mind

  • My god...two of the sexiest men alive in the same scene. This is wonderful.

  • :0)

I totally agree - although, James, in my view, still have some growing up to do to be considered a man :0)

    Richard is fantastic!

  • I love Richard's voice. mmmmmmm.....

  • I found this dvd on BBC America, it has all of the Shakespeare Retold Films on one dvd.

  • Man, that was intense. I want the DVD now! Can't wait to see what they did with other Shakespeare plays.

  • Is that James McAvoy?

  • Oh yes, it most definitely is James McAvoy. In his second most impressive role (after Atonement) in my opinion. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! I can't stop watching these clips.

  • I am starting to warm up to James :0)

Doesn't he seem to be everywhere these days? Apart from Atonement, his new movie is coming out - Penelope; the DVD "Becoming Jane" is out. He was at the Oscars and Bafta (with wife!).

Personally, I think, it's his Scottish accent - but, then again, I just have a thing for Scottish (and British) guys :0)

  • I totally agree about the Scottish accent thing! And he IS everywhere these days. He's also starring in "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie coming out this summer. He's just amazing. :-)

  • Richard once again stabbing someone in the stomach. He's going to get typecast! LOL "Pigs will fly! Pigs are landing on my head!" So funny. I love James, he's so intense.

  • I know what you mean about Richard - lol!

As much as I love (LOVE!) his brooding and dark looks, I think, it's about time we see another side of him, as well. Something romantic - or a nice detective story with him as a detective, of course. Also, I wouldn't mind another walk down the N&S lane :0)

  • Keely also starred in a film on BBC called "Under the Greenwood Tree" and she plays Zoe on "Spooks" (or MI-5) here in the States. She's married to Matthew McFadyen (who starred with her on MI-5 and was Mr. Darcy in P&P).

Ah... James McAvoy is absolutely brilliant!

  • and she is Richard Armitage's sister in the Vicar Of Dibley!

  • Its interesting that Richard would say that about James(great actor by the way). I hope that Richard too will have the opportunity to show his skills just like he did in North and South he was so xtraordinary in it. Really hope to see more of him after Robin Hood!! Thanks for posting.

  • You are very welcome - and I totally agree!

Even if it's going to be really hard seeing him without his leather get-up, I'll be thrilled to see him exploring new opportunities!

  • lol- thats true, do you think there will be a season 3 for Robin Hood I wonder??

  • I am almost certain! I know that Richard signed up for it but I haven't heard an official confirmation. I'll do some research!

Personally, I think, there MUST be a third season!!!

  • Ah i see, didnt know that!! So maybe there will be season 3 after all. Robin Hood & North % South have made an impact on me just like the Phantom of the opera did!!

  • I looked thru your user page here on you tube ~omg your a GB fan too!!!

  • You bet, my friend! Isn't everyone? :0)

It's just like you said, Phantom and N&S were truly brilliant, and I became the fan of Gerry and Richard after watching their respective work - it was hard not to!

At first I noticed RA because he reminded me of GB but now he holds his own place in my heart - and I see how different they really are.

I'll take either one... Or both :0)

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Thanks so much for posting :) I missed this when it was on TV originally, and they don't show many repeats of BBC shows in Australia.

Both Richard and James are very talented actors *cheeky smile*.

  • You're most welcomed!

  • WOW, that was fantastic!! I have never seen Richard play a daddy before . . . and now I am even more convinced that he really should be one! That's cool that he got to act with James; didn't he say that he thinks James is a great actor or something? :)))

  • this is just weird! i watched this show when it aired on BBC America last year bc of James McAvoy! i bought the DVD (with all 4 retold stories) 2 months ago BUT i kept watching the 2 comedy retolds. BUT now that I know who RA is from N&S, i need to watch this again. lord, the Brits got really great actors! i applause them more than my own country's . . but that's cool!

  • You're right!

I personally am very fond of a couple of Brittish actors, and the fondness deepens as I watch more of their work.

Little piece of trivia for you, JaneAustenGirl. When asked, who, in his opinion, was the most talented young actor today, Richard named... James McAvoy in "Last King of Scotland"! I haven't seen that movie but I trust Richard's opinion. :0)

  • Please tell me where you were able to find this dvd that is playable on a US dvd player. I am having issues with playing Brit tv shows on dvd because they are region2.

  • I actually don't have the DVD, I was able to download this.

If you're interested, drop me a message :0)

  • OMG, Please help me do the same. I'm dying to see this.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I have just bought the DVD and now I can watch it the entire day *happy smile*. But untill it is send to me I can watch your video.

  • Your're welcome!

I do love watching Richard (in anything!) - the more, the better! :0)

  • You are absolutely right with that because so do I! Today I watched North and South with Richard and I must really say that I was very close to a heart attack ;) . Especially at the end of part 2 and 4 because the entire series is just so amazing! By the way, I am now proud owner of the Shakespeare retold DVD and watching it was simply pure fun!

  • Thanks from an Armitage fan. Now I won't have to watch all of Macbeth to see my favorite parts.

  • My pleasure!

I just posted clips from "Ultimate force" - check them out, they are good! :0)

Next to come - "Ordeal by Innocence" and "George Gently"

  • Almost, suzycgt62.

He also briefly appears at the press conference scene after Duncan's death. Other than that, this is all.

  • I'm just curious...is this all of the scenes RA has in this?

  • Richard is so gorgeous in this role - too bad, it's such a sad (and short!) story.

By the way, can someone tell me if I am wrong thinking that Lady Makbeth is the same actress who played Harry's sister Rose on "Vicar of Dibley"? Thank you.

  • Yes you are right it is Keeley Hawes.

  • you are correct :)

She's also Molly's step-sister in Wives and Daughters. Keeley Hawes, I believe?
