It's a haitian delicacy that's ubiquitous in any event where there's haitian food. It's been around since the time of slavery... To suddenly reject it because someone from the middle east says you should... is to turn your back on your ancestors who have relied on it for centuries.

The real and more potent haitian alcohol is called "cleren"... every haitian drinks "cleren", religious and non-religious alike. You can't go to a wedding without drinking something called "cremas" that's made with "cleren"
