  • make your own kydex sheath with better retention. I made one right off the bat and carried it for 1.5 years until I switched to the CRKT minimalist. To make your own sheath costs about $3 in material and a little bit of your time.

  • I have had the same problem with the sheath. Larrydonnelly1 had a great tip on how to potentially solve this problem. I was just going to gorilla glue the seams together but his tip may work better and give the sheath some character. Good vid

  • Try drilling some small holes on each side of the outside of the top of the sheath and tie some heavy duty thread to keep the sheath seams together. Nutnfancy has a video on a sheath that he tied together and it works great. I really enjoy your videos!

  • I own this knife an i ve never had problems wih it, mine has serations, i used to carry it in my pocket s a work/utility knife but ive since switched to the cold steel Recon 1

  • 240p

only real cutlery lover fans view it in

    :)

  • GREAT Lil' knife I have had one since I first seen it.. Very good everyday use. I use on many utility needs.. The Kydex sheath can be modified with heat or drop of epoxy, Thus,no need for Tape on knife handle to fatten it up. Just heat up the kydex with small flame, or low heat solder iron's to squeeze the lock station in until you achieve a secure grip. This prevents un-docking of handle controlling the knife from, having unexpected bail-out EZ DOES IT small steps & succeed KAYO?

  • i traded this knife for the crkt hawk ka-t u think the ka-t is beter than the dog fish please reply

  • sorry i wasn't listening to the end..i would make a kydex sheath..because i have kydex laying around anyways..

  • i like the knife..you might should get some kydex and make a new sheath yourself..

  • throwing knife?

  • im 14... so i cant really get money all that easy, but ima buy this or some other neck knife when i got the chance. i used to be a folder freak, but now, i only like small full tang knives. boot knives and neck knives are my two favorite types. i really like this knife... and i hear that crkt is a really good company.

  • i made a good survival kit, but i don't have a tool.

regular multitools (i have a gerber ripstop) are too big to fit into the kit, and was wondering what knife to get. (maybe a neck knife?)

i don't wan to spend more than $30

    Please help!

  • Mine is not loose, it fits pretty tight

  • I had the same problem with my sheath, i stuck it in the oven to soften it, wrapped it in cloth and then clamped it til it went hard again - know its a tighter fit than when I bought it.

  • i was looking for a good cheap 20-30 neck knife and found a s&w SW990 black tanto knife at knifecenter do you think it is any good or what would you recommend?

  • Paracord wrapping the handle up to the hilt helps maintain positive fit. make sure you get a really tight wrap.

  • i got the same one but i paracord wrapped it!!!! bad ass all 2inches lol of bad ass

  • I have the Dogfish. I love the look and feel of this knife. I heated the kydex and used small pliers to crush the kydex near the guard. Now the guard has to pop past the two indentations. It would be even better with another pair of rivets on the opening end.

  • i just got this today notbad knife so far little slippie so i wrapped it looks badass now

  • i got this knife and i got it because in the summer i want a knife i can carry even if i dont have pockets or a belt.... i carry it for utility tasks and it has proven effective, came sharp enough to shave a hair but not sharp enough for me so after 15 minutes with a ceramic stone it got it hair popping sharp... welll the only thing is that the rivots can rust easly... thanks for the review

  • The hole closest to the sheath on the knife

  • My fix was putting the chain through the first hole closest to the sheath then putting the chain in the two top holes on the sheath

  • looks like a neat knife, but worried about the case situation, maybe i'll just keep it upright in my pocket?

  • my dog fish has 3 holes but the one on the website crkt has 4?

  • im looking at the buck one its in s30v and its around 25 dollars

  • u cud put the ball chain into the hole where the fish 'eye' is and put the sheath on the end.

  • you could have heated the sheath in the oven at abou 400 farenheit and re molded it to the blade.

  • @capnnewb or use a hair dryer

  • you could have heated the sheath in the oven at abou 400 farenheit and re molded it to the blade.

  • While I can't speak from the experience of owning this knife, I did check it out today at a show and the sheath wasn't secure at all. Which is a shame because the knife design is great. I got the CRKT Minimalist and the sheath is outstanding. The design isn't as utility oriented as the Dogfish but it definitely fits the role I bought it for.

  • Does anyone here know of a neck knife with a sheath that's sturdy enough to go running with? Thanks

  • @kevinjb7 anything from coldsteel. i have a becker necker and is very very pleased with the whole package(knife and sheath)!

  • I went with the CRKT Minimalist. Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys

  • @kevinjb7- great choice! i have one hanging from my neck as i write this! had it for few yrs and used the heck out of it, i wear it around the house and when i go out to town for a short trip. the becker or rat3 is on me when around the property and everything else,

  • Ya I've been really happy with it so far. I'm glad to hear that yours has lasted a long time even with hard use.

  • this knife or cold steel's new mini tac series or their super edge or urban and mini pals

  • yes, a hairdryer used to heat up the sheath then pressing down on empty sheath definetly works.

  • Neck knife should have a magnetic sheath to prevent dropping, which could cause self-inflicted puncture.

  • Comment removed

  • just bought the knife a week ago and love it, bottle opener sucks though. It is super sharp. i worry about how long the sheath will hold the knife in as well...

  • yes that's what happen when you create too fast! lol it's true my wife is an artist and I amm telling her to slow down but she is addicted! lol when you go on full speed from the beginning, after a time you'll have nothing to review

  • Have you tried using a hair dryer or hot air gun to shrink the kydex a little more?

  • @teekay989 I agree. There are sights you can search that would show you how to heat the sheath in an oven, insert the knife, then put pressure over the sheath to resize it and make it tighter. Thanks for the review!!!!

  • you should review the CRKT tiny tighe breaker. its a cool knife.its got a weird locking system but it works great...just a suggestion.

  • u can send crkt the model number through email under contact us on their website and explain and theyll send u a knew free shealth

  • cutlerrylover what would be the best knife that straps to your leg via velcro that is 40.00 or under and has a blade length a min of 4 in and a max of 6 in

  • take a look at the crkt sting, just got mine and its great. or the kabar tdi le, super comfy

  • the best thing would be to get a new kydex sheath made with a rare earth magnet incorporated from jumpstreet into the bottom of the sheath and fully seald in or sewn into the bottom of the leather sheath.

  • simple solution i use on all my leather and kydex sheaths that get loose...get some "rare earth" nickel plated neodymium magnets and super glue them to the sheath opposite each other as close to the tip of the blade as you can...the knife almose jumps into the sheath and requires a decent tug to remove it...the magnets will need to be placed in an attraction relationship to pull towards each other obviously.

  • i had the same problem with the crkt first strike......i think it just expands or wheres down.......two words for ya.........duck......tape,,,,,

  • why dont you just buy another one if their so cheap and the problem is so rare?

  • why don't you put the neck bead string thru the eye of the knife?

I thought this vid was to show what all the little designs are used for. As I used it on one of my TDY's and it came in handy a couple times for bottles and then 1 other use....it's not sharp enough to cut anything really...not sharp like what i am used to. Anyway, I put it in my travel bag..thanks

  • As Kydex is a thermo-plastic you might be able to heat the retention area with a lighter or maybe even a powerful hair dryer and push it in to increace the friction as that seems to be a step in making Kydex sheaths from scratch.

  • i got mine 4 $22.00

  • I like it nice and tight,

any other way just aint right

  • nice.....

  • Dude I saw this and I had to buy it. Found it for 20 bucks with free shipping. Thanks for the great review, cutlerylover.

  • I would call that a Seax style blade.

  • i have that!!!

  • Well I got this knife about the time you did this review - and feel the exact same way. fine knife, crap sheath. I can't use it as a neck knife, just put it in my pocket in the sheath. Didn't know crkt had a new sheath design for the knife, so will call and try and get a replacement.

  • The new Dogfish knives come with the new (improved) sheath. If you need one for your old Dogfish, CRKT will send you one under warranty if you call them.

  • wow, I wasn't aware of that. pretty awesome!

  • You could drill a hole in the sheeth and put a rubberband through the hole, then when you but the knife in, you just put the bubberband in the bottleopener.

  • you should get a custom sheath made

  • I like CRKT knives.

  • its crazy but cool how many differtnt steels there are and there different characterstics. wish there was a list that told you best from worst, that would be bad ass

  • got one, when the sheath got loose, put it under a hair dryer then smoosh with a phone, book. good as new.

  • i was about to say heat it up and bend it, you idea stealer

  • 17$ not to shaby

  • I superglued the d***ed edges of the sheath together near the mouth, and that worked just fine.

  • I have one of these and it falls out of the sheath pretty easily...

CRKT sent me a replacement sheath which fits alot tighter... its still a P.O S . knife though and the bottle opener doesnt work worth a Damn

  • Hi. Heat the kydex/ plastic sheath and lay a large book on it till it cools down and your sheath will be tight again. Its easier with Kydex but will work with plastic sheaths.

  • Just felt like watching an "oldskool" cutlerylover video. wow you've came far.

  • That hapend to my dads dogfish several times when we were out shopping so he dosn't carry it any more.

  • he said its 3crmov right?

  • At the end of a video when ur running down specs u should be like... yeah... they call me cutlerylover... n i know my SHYIT! :D

  • I see you've traded the knife but for anyone who's interested..

My experience with CRKT is that their costumer service is very good. Send the sheath to them and I bet they'd fix it. you may also be able to buy a new sheath from the company email them to find out.

  • Hi,

I just have to say that when it comes to their sheaths, while CRKT has improved in the last couple of years, in general they just have a history of screwing things up when manufacturing their sheaths. I recently lost my CRKT Ringer because the sheath didn't retain it properly.

It's just a shame that they (CRKT) still have problems like this considering that they put out some good, innovative designs at a reasonable pricepoint.

  • do u still have this

  • Nope, not anymore, it was traded...

  • @cutlerylover i love you why dont you ever reply to me? sad face

  • @with33 thanks for watching ym videos I cant reply to everyone thats just how it is, but I try my best to reply when I can to the thousands of comments and messages I get each week

  • @cutlerylover i reply to all your videos man i love you i want your baby why cant we just be together for 2 years now ive bin expressing my love for you and you dont even reply back tha you feal the same way

  • hey should i get a crkt dogfish or a buck hartsook, price does not matter, just quality

  • get a ringer, i have one and it is awesome

  • thanks,:)

  • Cute little knife. There is just something about a full tang knife.

  • it looks cheap

  • i don't own this knife but u might want to try this. in bowling when a persen's thum is to small for the thum hole in the ball, they use bowler's tape to fill the space. so u could maby aply this to your sheeth. btw i used to go bowling on sundays a cupala years ago. hope this helps. p.s. sry for the long comment.

  • thats one idea! someone told me that with this sheath material you cna just heat it up then remold it to the knife by squeezing it in a clamp to gte a better fit...

  • @cutlerylover Or use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the kydex, and tighten it up once the kydex becomes pliable

  • CRKT are awesome and have some REALLY Cool designs. This knife is NOT one of them though. The Dogfish has an Ugly handle, The Blade is nice.

  • thats a matter of opinion...but your certainly entitled to that opinion and Im msure some will agree...

  • @red5llaw

I kind of like the handle, it has an interesting look. My problem with the knife is that it doesn't seem to give you much your 100 dollars

  • @jimjamerman This knife in the review is only $15-$20, unkess you're not talking about Tom Krein's model.

  • @MaxPayne725 Thats weird, I have no idea where I got 100 dollars from. Must have been on a knife review binge and got it confused with another knife.

  • SAME PROBLEM WITH CRKT PARACORD-WRAPPED NECK KNIFE. GREAT KNIFE BUT ZERO CONFIDENCE IN SHEATHS HOLDING ABILITY. THE LARGER dragon HAS BEEN CARRIED HANDLE DOWN AND HAS SUCH A TIGHT FIT I*VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.. CRKT CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN TOP NOTCH. GREAT KNIVES

  • Yes I agree, if you had a problem with a CRKT knife they woudl make it right...

  • dude, you can buy kydex and make a new sheath.

    its really pretty simple.

  • I know, but its not worth it for this cheaper knife to me...Plus I don't have any simple tools anymore to even cut it easily, so for now I temperarily fixed it by heating it up and sort of remolding it tighter...

  • will u make a video of things u want to look for when u buy knives

  • Well I actualy thought about that idea, but then I realized that everyone is different, and what some peple want others just can't stand, so its about prefference, if your talkign mainly whats quaity over crap, the cost"usually" speaks for the knife if you know what I mean...

  • your videos are awesome thanks so much they help a lot for future knives i will buy

  • Thanks man! I appreciate it!

  • I have CRKT Triumph N.E.C.K. with merc harness and I have the same problem with the shealth. It has belt loop system, but I would be very unfortable with upside down carry. I should try to fix it (and I think it wouldn't be really that difficult).. It's a nice knife in all other means.

    And thanks for the review!

  • Your welcome! There was a guy on candlepowerforums in the knife section who has this same knife and he had taken the finish off and polished it up, looks even nicer!

  • i have a CRKT kiss knife

  • Nice, the folding ones or a stiff kiss fixed blade?

  • the folder

  • Ahh ok, yeah they are nice, cool open design, with that one handle scale...Its different!

  • you can probably fix the sheath by using a hairdryer on high and using your thumbs to remold it

  • Thanks for the idea...I saw that you cna easily heat the kydex in an oven or toaster oven at like 275 for a few minutes, when it gets soft I cna remold like you said...Ill see what I can do...I wish I could just afford the Tom Krein custom version...lol...

  • Yeah you can do it in the oven but that is better for kydex before its molded. I also love Toms work and i have a bunch of folders want to have him to do regrinds for.

  • hey jeff have you tried hammering the ribbots with a small hamer? (a few tapps should do it)

  • Actually yeah I did try that, they seem to be tight, it is just the design of the sheath, it looks as if the openign space at the edn is too wide, a good kydex sheath or molded sheath should flex a bit when pushign the knife in, then the blade shoud almost snap into place, but with this one putting it in is way to easy and no flex equals no resistance when its in there...But thanks for trying to help...

  • 5 stars, excellent review, very interesting since my next knife is probably going to be a smaller fixed blade knife, anyways wondering if you could glue on a thin magnetic strip.

  • Thats a good idea, didn't think of it...Thanks, if I come across some magnetic tape I will try it! Well I am not sure if I should say it because I am not 100% yet, but I might buy some stuff to make my own kydex sheaths...If I do I will just make this one a new sheath myself...Well see...Thanks for the nice comment...

  • Also to sell knives ate bladeforusm you need to be a paying member, but its free to sell over at knifeforums as well as other sites like candlepowerforums and edcforums...You can buy for free from all of the forums...

  • Yeah, the knife related forums have trade sections, for the most part people buy and sell outright, but many are willing to trade...Just look at the sub forums of knifeforums dot com and bladeforums dot com...I have to spell dot com out because I can;t post links in these replies...

  • hey think you can tell me the weabsit for the trade? thing?
