  • Great Video, love this sort of stuff, thanks for taking the time to put it together

  • is it better physics that gt5?

  • Would a Thrustmaster Ferrari F340 Force Feedback work?

  • tires look different in iracing

  • you need to have the real mazda sound overlay the iracing vid!

    Please.

  • @mickeynismocat

The engine sound is from the real clip on the left, which came from the Star Mazda series website.

  • iracing is to sims as shakespear is to english... sure u suck at it at first but when u get a grasp on it... it's beautiful... simply beautiful

  • It's really incredible how accurate iRacing is!

  • the car hardly moved at all, it was weird to me

  • @DrakeS444 its just the video, this track in particular is really bumpy in game.

  • the only diffrence was the clouds

  • Pretty impressive for a game, but it's far from cheap. Great tracks, though. It's tempting.

  • I just wish the cars in iRacing had better engine sounds, the Mazdas sound nothing like the real thing.

  • the only problem is the cars dont handle realistic only thing realistic is the tracks

  • @AMPLIGHTNING

It's not 100% perfect, no sim ever will be, but it's closer than anything else on the market. What are you basing this on?

  • @talengtp real life and no duh its the closest thing on the market wow what are they beating nr2003 nascar 09 gran turismo lol not much competition to be the closest thing on the market

  • @talengtp

Well, Gregor Huttu the undisputed king of sim racing got to drive the SM and said the SM had more grip but overall was VERY similar. Which is something the tire model should fix.

  • @talengtp my own opinion is that your wrong on that. look at where we have come in just the last 10 years.. we went from 0% accuracy to within 1/1000th of an inch in all places.. soon.... very soon....

  • @AMPLIGHTNING i beg to differ bud.

  • @AndersonRacing44 well just letting you know the drivers that arent getting paid by iracing are the ones saying it

  • @AMPLIGHTNING Your asuming im paid by Iracing? I am infact a paying customer...and I would know Iracing is a very close simulation because I am a race car driver and ive raced in multiple series. INEX Legends, NASCAR Late Models, and Street Stocks to name a few.

  • @AndersonRacing44 im talking about the bigger series the ones where the faster guys race like nationwide and cup the only way to be fast is if ur turning to the right in the corners

  • @AMPLIGHTNING You are correct on that part, The problem is not in how they designed the chassis, the problem is in the tire model. They havent calculated for acurate tire squash, tire deformation and how a tire reacts to different degrees of banking.

  • @AndersonRacing44 Yea I know we will see how the new tire model in January will effect it

  • @AMPLIGHTNING JANUARY!!! I knew it was coming but not when... Januaries not too long too wait. I can't wait til it comes out and the aliens like Gregor Huttu will still be just as fast. Alot of people think guys like gregor will be slower but I doubt it.

  • @quasiphatpaul its actually comming out in a few weeks i think 4 or 5

  • looks even better now with the shadows, and the trees do not just pop up any more as you come up the hill at the Toe!

  • yea it is realy good i use it but it does cost some money but u pay for what u get a good sim ......................... ohh and some ppl get like 6 or 700 doller wheels i just got one from ebay for like $30 and works just fine

  • yea it is realy good i use it but it does cost some money but u pay for what u get a good sim

  • would a logitech driving force GT wheel be ok for iracing?

  • @marki61422

yes, It's actually a very good starter wheel.

  • LOOKS SO REAL ! wow.

  • what equipment are you using? (i.e. steering wheel and pedals, or a full rig? and can i get the name of it or a link to a website that sells it) im looking into starting to race, but i dont want to spend a fortune on a setup and then find out that theres something just as good or better for half the price... thnx in advance!

  • @8justin88

Well, my setup wouldn't be ideal for cost :) I'm using a Fanatec GT3 wheel, and a set of CST Pedals that run about $735. The pedals are worth every penny though, absolutely fantastic. But u dont need expensive gear to start. A Logitech G27 is plenty good enough, and even the cheaper DGFT (or something like that). It's certainly a lot cheaper than most hobbies.

  • @talengtp ohk. yeah i was doing some research the other day and i saw they had some full setups that are lyk mounted and have the seat and everything, and those are around $600... and i also was looking at the g27, only thing is i cant find them in stores anywhere, so im gonna look around and see where i can find it the cheapest... thanks for you help

  • Ok, im defenitely gonna try and get into this. Although quick question, do they have i racing for dirt track cars (sprints, midgets, dirt latemodels)? because if so, then im sold. if not, im gonna get into it when i get the chance regardless. xD

  • @Chenstrapftw Nah No dirt cars......but that would be somthing sweet, They do have pavement Silver Crown cars and by the end of the year or begining of next they will have Street Stocks

  • @3fan4eva interesting. Im gonna keep this in my mind and possibly get into it. If they come out with dirt cars, mostly dwarfs, sprints and midgets, then i will be in. lol

  • @Chenstrapftw Yeah It will be some time.....Ive heard it is very very dificult to scan dirt tracks.......also the series you start off in is Legend Cars....thats pretty much like the Dirt Dwarf Cars

  • Great clip. And to those who get hung up by the virtual drive looking so static, its only like that because this was recorded using a replay clip. At some camera angles the virtual driver is frozen. In game you get arm, wheel and head movement from g forces etc.

  • how realistic is this game?

how accurate is the tyre simulation etc

  • -1 ...GT5 FTW!

he's not even turning the steering wheel XD

  • @xdownstreamx TARD !

  • @V8Super1 it's the truth...unfortuntly..he's not even turning the steering wheel lol

  • @xdownstreamx , When you say HE, do you mean the actual guy driving or the animation ?, if you mean the animation then yes, it doesn't show the steering wheel move in all replay camera modes.

Or do you actually think when you play this sim, your in cockpit looking at a static steering wheel ?.

  • @V8Super1

it's the animation...it's the same...the animation's not letting him steer the wheel..but in the end, yes it's the animation

  • shame the computer driver didn't move once evn though he's bombing it around a track

  • whats up with the tyres?? Real ones are narrower.

  • the car on the left you Own though

  • in the end its just a game....no comparison to the real thing.

  • @tomski6996 if that were true hundreds of racers from F1, Indy, NASCAR, Grand Am, V8SC, etc.., etc. wouldn't be using it as a training tool and for fun.

Maybe it doesn't quite compare, but it hands down does a better job than any other sim/game. The real world racer testimonials speak for themselves, and do so in much larger volumes than a magazine article about a new console game.

  • iRacing really need to sort the sound out. It's so weedy at the moment.

  • @BigDuke6ixx

They are currently working on a complete overhaul of the audio system. Sounds promising (pun intended)

  • atleast the race car on the Left you could

    own

  • NICE hand movement

  • The hands do move typically. The only time they don't on iRacing is due to graphic settings being lowered or if you're watching the replay from someone else's car and not your own.

  • @Pures2oo0 Forza et al (all other console games) cannot hold a candle to a real racing sim such as iracing.

Sure it's fun. But it's nothing like these real sims.

  • Are you serious? The video on the right is 100% iRacing footage from the roll bar camera. The video on the left is 100% real footage from the Star Mazda series.

  • The new build is even better.

  • i like this :D this proves that they do laser scan each track

  • look pretty cool would be nice if you could have almost unlimited choices of real road and track cars from the world thou like GT and Forza

  • Quality > Quantity.

  • on that quality part the need to pump up the car modeling a bit but you are correct

  • Besides, iracing is always growing in quantity.

  • @talengtp Well... no... the GT and Forza games both have higher quality... BUT in terms of eye for detail in specific races iRacing would probably be better....

  • @talengtp carboard cutout graphics in not what i would refer to as "quality" no matter how real it drives

  • @brosius85 I don't know what u mean by "cardboard cutout graphics", but everything u see other than the people is exactly as it was at the real track at the moment they laser scanned it, including track side objects. Reason is to give drivers the exact visual cues they would get if they drove the real track. If u compare the trees at Laguna's corkscrew to real pictures, not only are the trees exact, but the actual branches of the tree (1 @ corkscrew is very crooked tree).

  • @brosius85

    What a stupid post.

  • @brosius85 it looks bad but thats just because he as a slower computer and cant have the class 1 graphics.

  • @talengtp makes fuck all sense, wtf is qunatity of a game? You gonna buy 10 copies of a game, thats what quantity means ... Quality of the physics and quality of graphics so lets fix that quote for you ..... Quality > Quality .....

  • One thing I just noticed about most of these comparison vids. The iRacing steering wheel is disabled. So a comparison of the driver imput can't be made. In the one vid that did have wheel move ment. iRacing driver was doing quite a bit more steering correction to keep up. Makes me wonder about the tire physics?

  • Even if the both videos would be real you couldnt make a good comparison of the driver input when going by the steering wheels movement, because you never drive a corner the same way twice. No matter how often somebody drives threw a corner its never the same way

  • You dont race do you teamphat

  • Raced open wheelers when I was younger.

What I said you can test out yourself, watch any onboard camera footage that contains more then 1 lap, you will see there will be slight differences in steering wheel movements at every corner for every lap. You never drive through a corner the same way twice, in any car on any track.

  • But you can get it so close that it looks the same, i know in karts that i have had telemetry where the diff. was so minimal that only the computer could tell.

  • It seems obvious to me, that while their positions in the track and track times are obviously similar (and of course, great job with the track design), the real lap driver is taking tighter corners and turns, but both cars are in the same position... isn't that an obvious flaw? is it any different now?

  • hand movment needed

    BUT I LIKE

  • the tires are not nice but its realy realistic

  • I dont like steady hands, thats makes all the rest worthless.

  • iRacing is (and probably always will be to some degree) a work in progress, and while driver animations are currently lacking, it's on the table. There are bigger fish to fry at the moment

  • thats to prevent someone learning from the others :) if the hands would be moving, you could copy his steering and improve your own times... thats the reason for that ;)

  • Same here :)

  • Too bad his hands are not moving

  • Very nice video, can see that sim-devs have a lot of work 2 do, but a lot of work is done already.

Очень хорошее видео, можем видеть, что разрабам симов еще предстоит сделать многое, но и многое уже сделано.

  • el realismo del circuito acomparacion del real es imprecinante

  • the clouds look very close to original vid ;)

  • I live buy this track. Its sweet. 20 bucks to race around 3 laps.

  • That is absolutely brilliant.. must try this game post haste.

  • The purpose is to showcase how closely the in game track matches the real life track, specifically the location of the track side objects.

  • Yes.

  • Why so many down votes? This is a very simple yet meaningful question. No, I didn't read the description, but I usually do them when posted for vids. In any case, thank you talentgp for keeping a cool lid.

  • quick question why is the footage on the left so darn choppy? was it not recorded at 30 FPS or is that the way the game looks?

  • The footage on the left is real life footage from John Edward's on board camera. The overall video is 30fps, but I'm not sure what FPS the real footage is. It's probably less than 30fps, which would explain the choppiness

  • It's not choppy the track is just bumpy.

  • Comment removed

  • no they don't afaik

  • Those things are on the table and will come eventually. I think most would rather see the big ticket items they are working on and releasing rather than see them work on eyecandy. I do hate the cam view though due to the non-movement. The only reason I used it was because it's the closest angle to the real clip.

  • There were always wheel animations in game, I think its even in replays now.

  • All other driving games are like horseshit compared to this game.

Bad thing is it costs way too much.

  • cheaper than track time...

  • @jmurockstar

haha keep believing you can replace track time with a PC game.

  • @DonLduk

lrn2read. I never said one replaces the other. just that a hyper-realistic driving simulator is cheaper than track time and can be an effective learning tool. You act like pilots never use training simulators.

  • @jmurockstar

"hyper realistic simulator " is what marketing makes you believe. its just a PC game no different than WoW (subscription based) . A "Pilots" simulators costs thousands of dollars, and not for the hardware (that adds hundreds of thoudans of USD).

  • Great vid Doug !

  • Every iRacing comparison video I see has the camera's set up differently... These two cars aren't even driving the same line, and the car in the sim version seems to turn in little bursts as compared to the smooth turning in the real video. I haven't tried iRacing yet but based on the videos I've seen so far the physics, although realistic in general, seem to be strange when it comes to the little details.

  • That's because I'm at best an average driver. I had smoother laps, but the one in the video was closest to matching the lap time of the real video. But judgment of a racing sim should never be based purely on video. If that were the case, then most of the consoles titles would seem to be the best out there. You really should try iRacing before forming an opinion.

  • Ya I'm actually considering trying it sometime whithin the next two weeks. I was just a bit skeptical because as you said video comparissons don't mean much. Testimonials don't prove much either, the chances that the people who made them drove any other sims are slim.

  • I'd agree about the professional driver testimonials on the website with a few exceptions, but there's quite a few professional drivers from many forms of motorspots registered and actively running.

  • Just so people know, I wasn't flaming the sim or anything. I actually think it looks very well rounded. I was just stating some points on my mind that I wanted answers to before spending $15 a month on this. The only reason I said those things was to see if there is anyone who agrees with such a point of view. Don't count it as an opinion since I have no right to make one without having tried iRacing first. I'm just trying to see if I can find any things I would dislike about it before buying.

  • iRacing makes rFactor, ARCA, NR2003 and GTR 1 & 2 feel like toys. Those are the other Sims I have hundreds of hours experience in.

I was incredibly skeptical about the pricing setup of iRacing.

However, after subscribing I have only ran each of those other sims once each, and only for about 5 mins each. I just couldn't get into them after iRacing.

Its like comparing Grand Prix 1 with rFactor :D

  • I dunno, I used to think rFactor was complete trash (which it often is due to complete lack of quality control). But after I installed realfeel ffb and the legends mod I was very impressed. And I mean it felt better than nkPro and LFS to me. I'm curious how it compares to the iRacing legends cars, the handling charactaristics appear very similar.

  • I wouldn't call the Legends car the most realistic in the IRacing stable, but the Advanced Legend car is pretty similar to the mod if not a bit better.

  • The fucking trees are in the same position!!! AWESOME. 5/5

  • ok...next time, try to hit the apex more often.

    :-P

  • Thanks Tom O for posting this one in the JRL group. The vid speaks volumes, and I mean that. So many good points about it, far too many to list.

    It's spooky.

    Yooo Demon :)

  • Awesome! Now imagine what Doug's gonna do once he gets decent replay tools?

  • Great googly moogly, that is awesome.

  • Wow.
