they sounded amazing when i saw them in 2009. this live vid doesnt impress me but in 09 they played it so much better than this and i guess its like wine..they got better as the years went on.
They have the talent, and are interesting, but a little to religious for my taste. Although I must admit that the insane are some of the best artists in history. Look at Michelangelo.
o__O There's nothing really insane about religion, even from a scientific point of view. Though King's X isn't religious xD They met through religious music groups, but even since the 80s most of their music is just music, and lyrically about struggling with self acceptance, which could in-part be from inner religious struggle. Though I usually don't consider "oh lord" to be religious as lyrical filler, more like shouting "yeah", being 2 syllable filler instead of 1.
Dude, they haven't been "religious" since about 1990. Dug in particular has gotten totally away from it due to the religious intolerance to his sexual orientation.
Its very easy to forget they are a 3 piece band when you are listening to them. Such a full sound. Kings have always been one of the truly great unknown bands that never really went full blown mainstream...but then again, maybe thats why they make such great music.
@BARPOBARPO Yeah man. I remember when King's X first came out. Everyone was freaking out over the tone. He has gone from solid state amps to tube amps, to digital amps and back to tube amps. And you know what, he has always had THE BEST guitar of anyone I can think of, famous or not. It's in his fingers. He could be playing through the cheapest amp and it will still sound like Ty. How many players can have that claim?
@UncleTito72 Yes, back in the day he played through some weird Gibson solid state amp, used Alesis processors (the Midiverb, which were noisy) and a bunch of other weird gear that most people thought was cheap. It IS in the hands though. It's the way he picks, which is a downstroke across the strings with the edge of the pick, the type of which he says is very important. He bought the mold so he'd never run out or (Clayton?) endorsed him & agreed to continue making them. Anyway, very soulful.
If you haven't seen King's X live, make it a point next time they're in town. Easily one of the BEST live bands I've had the pleasure of seeing over 10X!

One of the most under rated bands.. and one of the best bands. They've written so much great material. Love it man. I hear music Dug!
cfyves 1 year ago
@cfyves Totally underrated. It's such a shame they don't get any airplay. Some of the best music out there never gets recognized.

I don't know I believe that if one believes that something that doesn't exists can't alter reality through prayer that's sort of insane. But hey...
