Get off CNN n look up the real news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@marilynboozilla You seem adamant it your critique of his egregiously egalitarian idiom, but surely you realize it is meant as a defection from the embarrassingly disconnected tones associated with the ivory tower of academia. These are richly elegant words.
@marilynboozilla rich people might talk a lot more clear to you specially when they tell you will benefit from their wealth, and you just need to support big coorporations and banks. you bow onto them with all your faith and no distrust. i am sorry but most people are sick of those masters.
Have you people lost your damn minds? This guy is a dangerous and is beyond fucking retarded. He speaks as if he is illiterate and therefore should not be taken seriously. Seriously? Democratic juices and spiritually break dancing? You wanna send some democratic juice my way, because this kind of talk is enough to bring Dr. King, who was against violent protests, rolling over in his grave. ACORN is BULL SHIT!!!
If one of those people decided to kill themselves on stage these drones would follow suit. Kind of reminds me of the Mummy with all those guys just walking like zombies saying "Imhotep, Imhotep, Imhotep"
Wall Street, Large Banks, Politicians, The Federal Reserve, MSM, Lobbyists, Big Corporations, are in a corrupt relationship that need to be broken up. Power to the people! @19yassir And Michael Moore?? Susan Sarandon?? These people have more money than God!! Moore is especially offensive to me as a celebrity "face" of this movement. He IS "the elite", despite his "everyday joe" appearance. He IS the top 1% that these people are protesting against, and yet somehow comes out to lend support. Man, if I were there, I'd ask him to pony up some cash-ola for the cause...or at least a pizza, 'cause protesting is hard work!! A girl gets hungry.....
@19yassir I thought the same thing!! I heard very similar rhetoric a while back...it was footage of a Tea Party rally. And yeah....thooooose guys are the nutjobs. "We the People" is one of their big rallying cries. Yet I can guarantee that everyone of those people there would call the Tea Party a bunch of terrorists. I'm not part of the Tea Party, but I have to say that at least their goals have been clearly defined from their inception: a desire to get this country back to the Constitution.

@itsokaytobeafraid I am not defending the NYPD, but from what I understand, this gathering didn't have permits. You can't have amplification in most municipalities w/o proper permits. It is the law. But not the fault of the NYPD, not that I care much about defending them...just pointing that out to you, for fairness sake. If you don't have amplification, then you don't give a speech. Simple. It only serves to make these people sound like mindless automatons, &give the protest less credibility

when they chanted we the people have found our voice, at the end of this magnificent speech, my eyes watered up a bit I almost shed a tear. This is an amazing time to be alive in this world, and I am so proud of the people all over the world who are making a final stand against evil and inequality. I can feel the scales weighing destinies in my soul, and I see and feel change rolling like tsunamis across the face of this place we call home. Long live the true spirit of Humanity.
Yes WE can! WE are one! WE the people! WE have found our voice! We can be the change WE wish to see in the world! Together WE can make a difference! United WE stand! The WE Party
@ArlanBerglas Man..that is beautiful. Those are very awe inspiring words. As a matter of fact, I heard these very same words on a news story the other day. It was covering a Tea Party convention. Wow...and people hate those guys. Hmmm....go figure.
i'm from israel. last night a large group of settlers have beat up a small group of leftist protestors and smashed their equipment/cars. it is now shabat morning, and not a single news site has reported on the event. you should not be suprised -- the mainstream media is a not your friend.
@papageno, Can you name one government theory or financial system that does not operate under the "profit" motive? Keep in mind 'Profits" can be much more than just cash. Also the person Zxuma you berated and put down was asking a very simple question that should have been easily answered. Papageno, Its people like Zxuma that you & yours need to win over to tip the scales in your favor. You'll never do that if you belittle them. Try not to be such an elitist and more of a solder for your cause.
So every American in the world who was not IN the financial district, as you were, was merely sitting on a computer wishing they had the sex respective gonads to do something. Are you kidding me? You do realize You-Tube is a world wide operation right? Your a detriment to your cause, as is every person who does not know how to handle criticism, and that has no idea how to turn questions into relationships, into attachments, into actions. All you know is to strike out blindly with no thought
Followers of political leaders whether they be right or left wing are always for 'The people'. They believe some godlike power has granted them angelic sight and the power to know exactly what is right for 'the people'. If you disagree, which I haven't, or disent in any way, which i have because of the structure of the speech, your suddenly no longer one of 'The People' your the enemy, unenlightened, unworthy. So go ahead, push out those who question, What revolution needs those types anyway
@rideit929rr It has already been explained to you that the crowd repetition is logistical in nature (people away from speaker need to hear what is being said), so why are you still babbling?
@Zxuma I would venture that it is the Banks and the economic system that they represent, where profits come before people. (Capitalism, if you missed that class)
@papageno88 You cannot even answer a simple question. I support the "occupy wall street" (as long as it remains civil) but what I do not get is, after all this: How can any form of success be measured?, Are there specific individuals that must be chopped?, Are there Policy change the 99% can initiate as a result of this people action? What are they?
In my experience, people who talk excessively about 'group think' are those who are too arrogant to entertain the idea that a good idea didn't come from them.
@papageno88 Groupthink is a very, very slippery slope. I don't blame anyone being wary of what this looks like to the average observer. Groupthink mentality was responsible for the Nazi's rise to power in post WWI Germany, and their ability to murder millions of innocent Jews. Now, before anyone get their shorts in a knot...I'm NOT likening this protest to the Nazi party...but the idea of people seeming to mindlessly repeat the rhetoric of only a few people is kind of upsetting.

This is SO powerful that I am crying tears of all kinds of emotions right now! Cornell West, MLK Jr is smiling & today I am crying because for the 1st time in a long time after watching this REVOLUTION, I can say "I am proud to be an American" and mean it. This vid IS my America! Not the last 41 yrs of my life that got us to this point! Amen Brother Cornell West, AMEN! WooooHooooo from CHICAGO! @OccupyChicago
Call and response as obedience to authority involves the same responses to the same calls; daily, weekly, year after year. Martin Luther King and Archbishop Oscar Romero are two more recent prominent people of spiritual depth & unimpeachable conscience who drew strength from this mainstream religious tradition.
Times change. Microphones have been outlawed in Zuchotti Park. What you hear is not ritual, it is a means of broadcasting timely information with minimal error. Listen and learn.
bobbylight442 is a perfect example of the type of person this movement will motivate, encourage and utilize. bobbylight442 is exactly the type of person I would never want to stand shoulder to shoulder with he needs to be part of a collective to feel empowered and having this love, he will most certainly need someone to hate and because he cant think for himself he will hate anything he believes thinks even slightly different from himself. No different from tea baggers, just a different leader
yes, this is great stuff. We have no choice but to fight, and whoever you are talking about "group think" and "herding", sorry but you are a MORON. This has to be big and involve lots of people, and for any who think it's "sad" well you can fuck off , because it is really, really beautiful. And you are truly an idiot as well as a moron.
Sorry but whether it's a protestant affirmation thing, a simple repetition for the people in the back to hear thing, or however you want to break it down it's just sad. If there is one thing I can't stand it's group think and group herding and this is it, I know it when I see it. I remember all to well when I was younger and I'd go to this rally or retreat or weekend summit and in the end it was always all about simply changing who you followed. It's sick no matter who does it.
@rideit929rr theres a bunch of people there and everyone repeating that gives them the opportunity to hear what is being said. You are trying to frame this as a gathering of cultists. fucking shame on you.
Commentors don't seem to understand why they are "repeating-" the NYPD has forbidden them from using megaphones or any amplification. Every word, in every assembly, has been shouted back like this, to make sure that everyone can hear. Usually starts with a "mic check..." "MIC CHECK!" "mic check..." MIC CHECK!"
@rideit929rr are you talking about the call and response? It's not obedience. The protesters started using call and response because they don't have the permits and therefore aren't allowed to use megaphones or a sound system. So when a person speaks, the crowd repeats it so the folks in the back can hear.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is NOT what democracy looks like. This is what group think and blind obedience looks like. It's actually pretty sickening and disappointing. I was with this movement but not any longer, not after this video, seriously, I'm not trading one creepy leadership structure built on blind allegiance for another. God this is actually turning my stomach.
@rideit929rr It's not really much different than the call to worship or affirmation of faith spoken congregationally in almost every protestant church in this country. There isn't a leadership structure, either. Cornel West was just invited to speak.
@rideit929rr It's not really much different than the call to worship or affirmation of faith spoken congregationally in almost every protestant church in this country. There isn't a leadership structure, either. Cornel West was just invited to speak.
@rideit929rr You really have no idea what you're talking about. The human mic is applied to everyone who stands up to speak at the General Assembly, not "leaders". It is an amplification process so the people a distance away from the speaker can hear what is being said, as the NYPD won't allow the protesters to have microphones.
@rideit929rr Speaking as someone who was IN the Financial District instead of sitting on the computer wishing I had the sex-respective gonads to do something, I can tell you that group think is NOT in the picture. The march is organized by anarchists who refuse to make statements in the name of the GA because they don't want to speak for the whole group. Additionally, rank-and-file opinion has overruled the anarchist leadership on several occasions.
When freedom does not have a purpose, when it does not wish to know anything about the rule of law engraved in the hearts of men and women, when it does not listen to the voice of conscience, it turns against humanity and society. What's Next‽
The human voice can never reach the distance that is covered by the still small voice of conscience. -- Mohandas Gandhi
The only tyrant I accept in this world is the still voice within. -- Mohandas Gandhi
oligarchy is the rule of the many by the few ..capitalism is ownership wealth by the few.

when they chanted we the people have found our voice, at the end of this magnificent speech, my eyes watered up a bit I almost shed a tear.

I vote for a DOUBLE MIC CHECK! It looks like this :
1. person - "Mic check"
2. 20 or so surrounding - "Mic check"
3. ALL OTHERS - "MIC CHECK"..
Rinse and repeat till the rhythm is in perfect sync. #tryingtodomypartfromatinyisland

Try not to be such an elitist and more of a solder for your cause.
rideit929rr 5 months ago

@rideit929rr It has already been explained to you that the crowd repetition is logistical in nature (people away from speaker need to hear what is being said), so why are you still babbling?
slinky16 5 months ago
What exactly are the items on the agenda of the protest? Which one banker is targeted here? Wall street banks, Federal Reverse Bank....?
Zxuma 5 months ago
@Zxuma I would venture that it is the Banks and the economic system that they represent, where profits come before people. (Capitalism, if you missed that class)
papageno88 5 months ago
@papageno88 You cannot even answer a simple question. I support the "occupy wall street" (as long as it remains civil) but what I do not get is, after all this: How can any form of success be measured?, Are there specific individuals that must be chopped?, Are there Policy change the 99% can initiate as a result of this people action? What are they?
Zxuma 5 months ago
In my experience, people who talk excessively about 'group think' are those who are too arrogant to entertain the idea that a good idea didn't come from them.
papageno88 5 months ago
@papageno88 Groupthink is a very, very slippery slope. I don't blame anyone being wary of what this looks like to the average observer. Groupthink mentality was responsible for the Nazi's rise to power in post WWI Germany, and their ability to murder millions of innocent Jews. Now, before anyone get their shorts in a knot...I'm NOT likening this protest to the Nazi party...but the idea of people seeming to mindlessly repeat the rhetoric of only a few people is kind of upsetting.

Listen and learn.

yes, this is great stuff. We have no choice but to fight, and whoever you are talking about "group think" and "herding", sorry but you are a MORON. This has to be big and involve lots of people, and for any who think it's "sad" well you can fuck off , because it is really, really beautiful. And you are truly an idiot as well as a moron.
bobbylight422 5 months ago
Sorry but whether it's a protestant affirmation thing, a simple repetition for the people in the back to hear thing, or however you want to break it down it's just sad. If there is one thing I can't stand it's group think and group herding and this is it, I know it when I see it. I remember all to well when I was younger and I'd go to this rally or retreat or weekend summit and in the end it was always all about simply changing who you followed. It's sick no matter who does it.
rideit929rr 5 months ago
@rideit929rr theres a bunch of people there and everyone repeating that gives them the opportunity to hear what is being said. You are trying to frame this as a gathering of cultists. fucking shame on you.
moediggity28 5 months ago
Commentors don't seem to understand why they are "repeating-" the NYPD has forbidden them from using megaphones or any amplification. Every word, in every assembly, has been shouted back like this, to make sure that everyone can hear. Usually starts with a "mic check..." "MIC CHECK!" "mic check..." MIC CHECK!"
relooreloo 5 months ago 40
@rideit929rr are you talking about the call and response? It's not obedience. The protesters started using call and response because they don't have the permits and therefore aren't allowed to use megaphones or a sound system. So when a person speaks, the crowd repeats it so the folks in the back can hear.

This is NOT what democracy looks like. This is what group think and blind obedience looks like. It's actually pretty sickening and disappointing. I was with this movement but not any longer, not after this video, seriously, I'm not trading one creepy leadership structure built on blind allegiance for another. God this is actually turning my stomach.
rideit929rr 5 months ago
@rideit929rr It's not really much different than the call to worship or affirmation of faith spoken congregationally in almost every protestant church in this country. There isn't a leadership structure, either. Cornel West was just invited to speak.

@rideit929rr You really have no idea what you're talking about. The human mic is applied to everyone who stands up to speak at the General Assembly, not "leaders". It is an amplification process so the people a distance away from the speaker can hear what is being said, as the NYPD won't allow the protesters to have microphones.
slinky16 5 months ago
@rideit929rr Speaking as someone who was IN the Financial District instead of sitting on the computer wishing I had the sex-respective gonads to do something, I can tell you that group think is NOT in the picture. The march is organized by anarchists who refuse to make statements in the name of the GA because they don't want to speak for the whole group. Additionally, rank-and-file opinion has overruled the anarchist leadership on several occasions.
