One day Un-Mahatma Gandhi could not feel satisfied with 100 of womens working in his ashram. This is when Nehru offered Indira to Gandhi and Indira Begum became Indira Gandhi.

She was child bride of Gandhi and there are several references where Mohandas Gandhi has reffered to Indira as "A Mint with a Hole". LOL

On 12 June 1975, Allahabad High Court found Indira Gandhi the then Prime Minister guilty of Election Fraud for misusing the government machinery for her election campaign. The court declared her election null and void and unseated her from her seat in the Lok Sabha.

The court also banned her for 6 years from contesting any election and she was asked to Resign.

On 26 June, 1975, Indira Gandhi declared Emergency overriding the courts, giving her extra judicial powers.
