Stomp on his foot then land an elbow to his ribs. This loosens the grip. Then with both hands, one at the elbow and the other at the armpit, you step forward and drive your opponent to the ground. It's simple, easy. The larger the opponent is in comparison to yourself, the farther you should step. The assailant is temporarily stunned and disoriented from the sudden change of position. Then you run, or subdue them depending on whether you are trained thoroughly enough.
Please try this with your partner resisting hard. I study Shorin-Ryu also and have tried this exact same technique and seen others try it and it doesn't work.
You don't want to turn the neck. To get out of the hold as this will expose your jugular and you will get choked out. You want to drop your chin to relieve pressure on the neck while pulling the arm down as you step around an out of the hold. Jesus Christ this Clown is going to get someone killed .
Sensei I am Shuri Ryu karateka..A much easier and simpler escape is to crush the testicals consider a 100Lb Female getting grabbed from behind by a Guy my size 250LBS or for that matter a child. The judo/jujitsu headlock is different and more secure, therefore harder to get out of. But Garner is correct. You do have a better chance by turning your head. Then what you would do is make a quick sidestep (and assuming you haven't passed out) this gives you an angle to place a hit into the groin or for an elbow into his/her stomach or solar plexus. If you're not trying to hit, then you can make the step, reach over and grab his head and do the classic judo throw :]
@duntazemebrahxD Actually he would do it much faster and easier if he pushed up on Mohammed elbow with his left hand. There is very little power in the arm trying to hold it down when the elbow is horizontal. He's using his right hand and the left is not doing anything.
as an Aikijujutsu instructor I can honestly say this man has not studied this technique all that well,if he had either in combat or in a free fight atmosphere he would not be turning his head side ways as apposed to tucking the chin which is something that should be 2nd nature and his execution of the technique would have fluidity, other than that I can appreciate helping people with tips on self defense, most people on youtube have never stepped foot in a dojo, &he needs to practice @home too
Removing the other person's ability to continue fighting, with rapidity is a requirement, which is often why some people will if all is actually chaotic, just shoot the person. The carefully protected by society manipulators which breakdown relations between people and destroy property, will soon destroy the society which does protect them.
Each training method does make a wide variety of assumptions, based on perceptions about the World. What kind of assumptions are you making, about that him?
first off as an instructor i can tell by seeing a technique performed or in this case explained how much the individual practices, not how many repetitions they do,but if they practice regularly i have no doubt that this man to an extent knows what he is talking about, but he lacks a basic knowledge of chokes or the defense there of and it is evident in his turning the head, most of the time the person applying the choke will either drag you,or wrap you up,most of the time they wont stand there
Second of all, it is easy to just say "just shoot the person"after all this is a gun society, but there are times when you are not packing or when someone might grab you in a split second, thats when defensive tactics come in handy, you might not have the time to draw if you are packing, before the the technique gets sunken in and evasive techniques will give you distance to either fight, shoot or escape, but in self defense armed or unarmed the amount of force has to be legally justifiable
if you use too much force it is now a one sided case for revenge over defense and regardless of the means of defense if unnecessary force is used it is overkill, and the prosecutor or defense attorney(depending on who filed the police report first & which side you are on)will make you out to be a gun toting monster or if you are a martial artist they will make you out as some kind of violent thug and or use the medias biased misrepresentation of the martial arts against you.
Lastly it is nice to have a civilized mature conversation on the comment spots on youtube, normally you run in to guys with big self inflated egos(key board tough guys) who dont train at all or have no concept of the realities and implementations of training and can only use obscenities and immaturity to make their uncalled for point, and i thank you for granting me that, with all respect Osu
I'm glad you responded by explaining what people are actually most likely to do, the reason why people do often over-simplify is to prevent self-injury to those people which are learning the basics;for example, the one-arm version of push-hands practice found in Tai Chi will seldom be actually applied to remove a person's balance, in any Tai Chi Sparring. The over-simplification is only useful at a beginning level and this person isn't teaching beyond that, intro-level competence.
@Sochinsensei, This guy has never been in a fight let alone been chocked & squeezed to know that lights would be going out in less than 10 seconds. I have yet seen anyone get out a triangle chocke that easily. He needs practical training to know what he teaches does not work in reality.
I dont mean to down him but every time I see his videos it really bothers me that people like him think they can teach.
whats even funnier is Muhammad has a great opportunity for sinking a head lock a moment :59
furthermore please read all 5 of my previous posts, when you do you will notice that I am NOT defending his position,I think he should have picked a better example of evasive movements, let alone pick something that isn't going to get a group of beginners hurt,
BY turning your head in this direction, it enables the attacker to "sink" his choke and render you unconscious, if not kill you. You would be better off smashing the groin with your right hand, then pluck his hand and break his arm. Or just simply smash his groin and run. How in the world does this guy get included on "expert village?'
The technique works, and you can easily destroy his shoulder joint this way. The problem is if the attacker cranks you up on your toes. In that case you break his stance and make him drop you by grabbing and twisting his balls. Then you do the technique. After his shoulder is wrecked, he will be out of the fight, and you can try to avoid a beating from all his friends, who are surrounding you. Maybe they will shoot you.
This guy is a moron this is going to get you into trouble in a fight. You don't have time to stop and think and "clear your wind pipe" how about just kicking the guy in the nuts ?
Closely observe the teacher's right hand -- see how it grips the attacker's arm just before the technique really gets going? I *think* the defender can rely on being able to loosen the attacker's grip even if it's fully locked-in, due to the defender's use of that hand, and the use of leverage (notice the defender's head and body move down at a funny angle, I think the attacker is weak in that direction). You may be right though; I'd have to try this a few times to really recommend it.
i saw two videos (by submissions101) way better then this, an easier way is to simply step forward with one foot, bend over so you got momentum going forwards and they lose balance, and swing them up over you, using your hip..there's another way but it's more complicated :P though more effective.
Yeah, Judo would work best here. The easiest, safest and most sure fire thing is to step back into him, get a good rootedness to the ground, press up, lean forward, then turn your body a bit and throw them to the ground. I've dabbled in Shorin-ryu and personally like it... this does not look like shorin ryu
An overweight black belt? Is that even allowed? This guy wouldnt get through our warm ups. Man ...hit the rope, bag and cardio!! and dont tell anyone your studying Shorin Ryu!
ok in real life a guy on the street comes up behind you and stops to think how to grab a guys neck? i don't think so. I think he was just showing how to get out of that kind of grab.
He reminds me of my old instructor Greg Johnson, but he is much heavier in this video. Also the other person looks like older son Monty. I could be wrong but his voice and movements are just like Greg Johnson.
this is a really good techniqe if i could spell it right =D i take isshinryu karate which is based off of shorin ryu and goju ryu karate so i've seen this move
mohammed is a pretty big dude but if someones gunna do this theyll be 3x bigger than him u should throw in a strike to break his attention from the hold and end with a takedown.
I study the same art and though I'm sure the man understands what he is doing, i do not feel that he is teaching it efficiently. No offense, sensei. and pitfighter, you are correct. When someone grabs you like that, youre usually off the floor or very unbalanced, making this technique damn near impossible to put into work. I personally would reach towards the wrist, as he did, groin, or face. whatever i could get my hands on to distract and THEN make my move for escape however i can.
its only my opinion but realistically, the guy grabbing you rarely stands still after placing you in a headlock/choke/sleeper etc...they usually breaks your balance by dragging you backwards..by then it's too late.
Thats why you gotta be quick and agile... I take Shoren Ryu this style is known for quick movement especially our side step. So we could do some pretty quick thinking
the choke is not effective... if the opfor put his choke hand in the crease of his elbow and around the defenders head the technique would break your head...
although this is a good way to get out, stomping on the guys foot or grabbing his nuts and making him let go , then knocking him out seems more appealing :p
cudnt u tighten ur grip just as he is halfway thru that and choke him?? or crush his skull...it just dosnt look as easy as kickin him in da nuts and boltin..lol
Guys what do you mean this is crap? I do this exact style and I know this exact move. And though I myself would not use it (or reccomend it to anyone who isn't very experienced)this man gives a good demonstration of the defense. He explains it very well, too. You people should need to get more knowlegable about this stuff before you run your mouths!
This will work if your aggressor is paraplegic and suffer of muscular dystrophy. This look like a guy who wanted to be ninja or jedi master, so he bought a black belt and wear sprites clothes. And he's giving his teaching in a lounge. What the fuck! Please, remove the "karate" in title. Sorry to be so disrespectful, but this is an insult to karate.
ummm bitchcuntnugget, you're rude. As for the video, the turning of the head movement does work if the attacker has a semi-poor grip, but the rest of the escape is bull. You would do better in that case if you were to get out of the choke-hold, then try a sankyo; which is a wrist manipulation. You can easily take an attacker down with joint locks and manipulations. If they try to fight it, 9 times out of 10 their joint will break.
hi, no disrespect but my brother is in the army and he taught me that when attacked from behind and being choked that you should wrap your arm up over your head and pull away. Your way wouldn't help much if the attacker had a tight grip. Wrapping your arm around your head would force the attacker to loosen the grip and gives you a chance to escape and run away.
Sir I dont think thats good technique. See turning your neck just exposed your corotic artery to his forearm, giving him a better choke. You also gave him no reason to release you, his finger will no doubt be squeezed together and while your struggling to get his finger he will have the advantage of air, you may not have blood or air to your brain. Pulling down good idea but not enough, no strike no oppening.
the best technique is to get full of anger, hate, madness and no mercy toward the enemy and of course to be calmed and wait for the right moment to hit right in the nose and release all your anger....my suggestion is just learn how to cover yourself, wait till he gets tired and BOOM victory is yours
you guys must not have any experience in martial arts. if performed with proper technique and a good amount of speed this move CAN fend off an AVERAGE attacker. this is not meant to fend of tito ortiz. an AVERAGE attacker normally isnt a UFC legend. Karate is a form of SELF DEFENSE. Karate is not meant to be used aganst a person who is in multiple martial arts. this is why we now have MMA or Mixed Martial Arts (ufc) (pride) etc. which most forms are derived from karate.
Say, what would you do if the attacker was to hold you around the neck tighter than "Mohammed" was holding you. His hold wasn't exactly made of iron was it?
Oh and finally - if you wonder why those guys in UFC can beat a karate black belt, its not because karate (or Shorin) doesn't work, its because fat asses like this are teaching karate students that their attackers will hold them gently, stand there, and wait for them to break the "hold" they're in. Its not because karate doesn't work, but in this day and age we've dumbed it down so soccer moms and 5 year olds can get a black belt if they pay for enough lessons.
dude if your FRIENDS BROTHER is an eight year old blackbelt than either the karate academy he is going to is shit, or hes been in karate since he was negative two (-2) years old. it takes about 9-10 years to earn a first degree blackbelt in a standard karate academy. Tae kwon do takes about 7-8 years of 2-3 day a week training.
I dunno, I've seen him wearing it. It really depends on how much money you're going to spend. I bet you can earn your black belt very quickly if you invest some extra dollars ; ).
Yes only in America. And therefore black belt in America means nothing. Infact black belt first dan in any part of the world means nothing anyway, its only 1st dan.
You know some people learn faster thn others... My friends sister is ass good with her gymnastics as girls a couple years older than her. I know thats not karate or anthing...but it's a good example.
Yes, its possible for a 20 year old to earn a black belt before a 25 year old... but get real. An 8 year old still runs to his mama's room when he's had a nightmare. Its become a business... you pay enough money for enough classes, you WILL get a black belt.
Fella, just about any karate class IN AMERICA TODAY gives black belts to 5 and 6 year olds. Its become a business. If someone pays for enough lessons, regardless of whether they're actually learning the techniques or not, you have to graduate them to another belt. If you dont, the dojo across the street will. You'll be forced to close for teaching actual, unfun, realistic and practical karate training, while your competitor is handing out blackbelts for X number of lessons.
"Ok, now the first thi - ack! I'm.. gon *cough* you're choking me! UGH! I'm going to turn my head... and... just... bend down here... trying to... ok you're gonna need to loosen your grip, I cant get out. Loosen up please! HEY! I cant get my head out of your arms because you're squeezing too tight! You're not letting me go just because I bent over sideways like we practiced! Ok I'm starting to black out. Good night. Dont ass rape me while I'm unconscious please.
Have you seen some of expertvillage's other bullshit? Check my favorites for that video of a woman doing incline bench press.
The really sad thing here is that someone wide eyed naive young person is going to be watching "how to defend yourself" from expertvillage and end up getting himself killed, or a woman gets raped because that flying chuck-noris double-spin wrist tap didn't work.
If I was doing this video...Muhammed would be screaming from the bite I took out of his arm and the knee I ruined right after that. End of story. Lets stop fucking around people. your life might depend on it. the hard styles were regimentation, as much designed to mold troops in mass. Ancient and honorable...yet every other and different martial art proves the need for FAR more. MA is based on animals to a great degree, right? Animals BITE.
Most fighters(especially thugs) are TOP heavy, meaning they have more ability; training and comfort using upper body. This is good for YOU IF you go for the legs/knees/inner thigh EARLY, hard and fast. MOST fighters will back away faster from what they are not confident to defend against.
Trained legs are better for offense(more power/ longer reach)so go AROUND the average fighters confidence and 'home'(upper body based skills). A lttle knee pain goes a LONG way. While most fighters can take more punches than you may get the time to give out.
There are NO "typical" grabs. do what is easiest and fastest. Less moves is ALWAYS better. BITE. Bite again!!! kick out the foundation(knee break)faster and easier than hoping you have the right stance to, or grab of an arm. EVERYBODY's knees break faster and easier than working an arm grab. Make MORE pain BEFORE asailants mind can shift from the FIRST pain!
turn and BITE the arm!!! assailant will be either pushing or pulling YOU to where you cannot employ footwork and hand grabs quicker than you can BITE his arm. also: five pounds of downward pressure on arm will prevent the strongest guy from choking you out.
if anyone is truly interested in protectin themselves, get yourself down to a brazilian ju jitsu gym and a kick boxing or (muay tai) dojo. the best defence is attacking. also if your truley worried about yourself buy a knife or just have big friends.
i would say put more emphasis on the kick boxing side or ju jitsu, not bjj, as ground techniques prove irrelevant in the street when there is broken glass on the floor or anything obstructing ur ability to go to that postition and if they attackers are in numbers. strike and run, or keep striking until u can get away would be my best advice
hahaah if you are turning turn into them, not away. actually if u get caught with the choke its a bit scarier because you can still breathe so you think your fine, then u wake up on the floor haha it sucks
hey mate. i read ur reply, u made a gwd point about the glas and the ground and that, & yeh kcik boxing should be a priority however the american, australian and british beauro of statistics all say that 80% of street fights go to the ground. so say if u are tackled (which is prety hard not to be unles u know truley how to fight) and you dont know ground atack, you are ultimatly 'fuked'.
again if its an organised fight then yes ground fighting is essential, if its a random encounter, the emphasis is on survival, so either escape, or strike until you can escape. Standing ju jitsu is good also, especially chokes and strangles. Gives you a barrier between you and other opponents
thats true, but the only thing you should use on the ground is getting back up, because chances are if the guy attacks you, he's confident he'll win, meaning his friends are there. If you fight on the ground you'll get your head jumped on. I think the best approach to an encounter is to strike anything that moves and escape as soon as possible. bjj is good but a downfall in the wrong situation
Yeh I do Ju Jitsu. Like the all round fighting jujitsu not bjj. We try and get good at a bit of everything so we might have more weapons than the average fighter. In a perfect world haha I actually thought about fighting like it was a big tournament aswell and was pretty confident in it, but then i read "Dead or Alive" by geoff thompson and its the reality that nobody wants to face. Read it man its a good book for us.
kyeme, you should really study the reality before you start teaching moves. attackers wnt just stand three like a lymp peace of jelly. I understand that karate is an art and does not have to be about fighting. but this is 'self defence'. in this situation the attacker is 85% more times bigger therefore bending his arm would be useles for hed just bend it back and come around with his right hand so to speak
this kind of choke is used by people who have less experience. the best choke is known as the lock, where you actualy push the head outside and grab hard on your own arm, its kinda hard to explain. but people who know what im talking about will get me.
yeh totally, also, he is telling you to turn your head, this is just turning it into a choke intead of a strangle. meaning if you arent quick enough, you'll still pass out
Are you kidding me? Nobody uses air chokes. With the UFC hype even 14 year old kids know to choke out the carotid arteries in which case you have less than 6 seconds to handle the situation or you are lights out.
Funny how martial arts moves always work in the dojo. Yet on the street. The perpetrator never cooperates with the fool-proof defensive move.
you might thin that, but i will tell you this- you DO NOT want to mess with my judo teacher. hes the nicest guy in the world, butwhen he needs to, he can RELLLLLLY lay a smack down.
you cant just pull yourself out just like that. when someone comes from behind and grabs you like that they imidiately lock their arms so unless you can overpower them while beening chocked this cant work.
Seriously though, if the choke isn't locked on as shown in the video, the success of this escape move is based largely on strength vs. strength.
There is no easy way to fight. Getting out of a compromising situation is even harder.
A better defense. Tuck your chin into your chest so your neck can't be squeezed, and control the back arm (which he could use to lock a choke on) instead of trying to out-wrestle the front arm.
i am one hundred and ten percent with you on this that move is for when you kinda have a feeling its coming or your aware of it if somone locked that on hard there would be no way to wrestle out with your neck IMO
This is an exelent technique! I first learned this technique in a self defense class from an old security guard. If anyone knows what works its them. They have been thrue most situations in their line of work.

In that case you break his stance and make him drop you by grabbing and twisting his balls. Then you do the technique. After his shoulder is wrecked, he will be out of the fight, and you can try to avoid a beating from all his friends, who are surrounding you. Maybe they will shoot you.

If the person has the choke locked in you will not get out that easy you need to strike the person your hands are free theirs are not
dewayneburford 2 years ago
Closely observe the teacher's right hand -- see how it grips the attacker's arm just before the technique really gets going? I *think* the defender can rely on being able to loosen the attacker's grip even if it's fully locked-in, due to the defender's use of that hand, and the use of leverage (notice the defender's head and body move down at a funny angle, I think the attacker is weak in that direction). You may be right though; I'd have to try this a few times to really recommend it.

scarecrow7236 2 years ago
i saw two videos (by submissions101) way better then this, an easier way is to simply step forward with one foot, bend over so you got momentum going forwards and they lose balance, and swing them up over you, using your hip..there's another way but it's more complicated :P though more effective.

Hmm... Our philosophy is to simply not let them get you into that position. If they've got you by the neck, you've already lost.
If they DO get you by the neck, you can use Judo to get yourself out, but Shorin-Ryu is not Judo.
Whatever this man is atempting is not good Karate, if it is Karate at all, and it is certainly not Shorin-Ryu. Don't follow his advice.
CaptainN64 3 years ago
Judo isnt the only thing that can get you out of that position, thou i agree u shldnt let them get thier in the first place.
Also tht get out is jst crap, not going to work if they're really gripping ur neck.
Zipidy2k6 3 years ago
Yeah, Judo would work best here. The easiest, safest and most sure fire thing is to step back into him, get a good rootedness to the ground, press up, lean forward, then turn your body a bit and throw them to the ground. I've dabbled in Shorin-ryu and personally like it... this does not look like shorin ryu

Skido07 4 years ago
Agreed. I do Shorin-Ryu as well.
He did a good job, but it was too simple for my liking, there was no finish, no TD, just a grab break.
which, I suppose, is all someone needs to run away, and really all that can be expected from a 2mins ExpertVillage vid, right?

This will work if your aggressor is paraplegic and suffer of muscular dystrophy. This look like a guy who wanted to be ninja or jedi master, so he bought a black belt and wear sprites clothes. oceanfan88 4 years ago
ummm bitchcuntnugget, you're rude. If they try to fight it, 9 times out of 10 their joint will break.
oceanfan88 4 years ago
hi, no disrespect but my brother is in the army and he taught me that when attacked from behind and being choked that you should wrap your arm up over your head and pull away. Your way wouldn't help much if the attacker had a tight grip. Wrapping your arm around your head would force the attacker to loosen the grip and gives you a chance to escape and run away.
ZmbQn 4 years ago
Sir I dont think thats good technique. See turning your neck just exposed your corotic artery to his forearm, giving him a better choke. You also gave him no reason to release you, his finger will no doubt be squeezed together and while your struggling to get his finger he will have the advantage of air, you may not have blood or air to your brain. Pulling down good idea but not enough, no strike no oppening.
Poeticfavor 4 years ago
im sure we'll all run into that.
and even if we do, thats not gonna help us, cuz he will have a tight grip..

you guys must not have any experience in martial arts. if performed with proper technique and a good amount of speed this move CAN fend off an AVERAGE attacker. this is not meant to fend of tito ortiz. an AVERAGE attacker normally isnt a UFC legend.

His hold wasn't exactly made of iron was it?
jammyishere 4 years ago
Oh and finally - if you wonder why those guys in UFC can beat a karate black belt, its not because karate (or Shorin) doesn't work, its because fat asses like this are teaching karate students that their attackers will hold them gently, stand there, and wait for them to break the "hold" they're in. Its not because karate doesn't work, but in this day and age we've dumbed it down so soccer moms and 5 year olds can get a black belt if they pay for enough lessons.
KaseyAkira 4 years ago
I have to agree, black belts don't mean anything anymore. I have a friend whose little brother always brags about his black belt - he's 8.
Bechillbro48 4 years ago 2
dude if your FRIENDS BROTHER is an eight year old blackbelt than either the karate academy he is going to is shit, or hes been in karate since he was negative two (-2) years old. it takes about 9-10 years to earn a first degree blackbelt in a standard karate academy. Tae kwon do takes about 7-8 years of 2-3 day a week training.
Gaffhart77 4 years ago
I dunno, I've seen him wearing it. It really depends on how much money you're going to spend. I bet you can earn your black belt very quickly if you invest some extra dollars ; ).
Bechillbro48 4 years ago 3
Yes only in America. And therefore black belt in America means nothing. Infact black belt first dan in any part of the world means nothing anyway, its only 1st dan.
Pecherin72 4 years ago
You know some people learn faster thn others... My friends sister is ass good with her gymnastics as girls a couple years older than her. I know thats not karate or anthing...but it's a good example.
cseyemiami 4 years ago
Yes, its possible for a 20 year old to earn a black belt before a 25 year old... but get real. An 8 year old still runs to his mama's room when he's had a nightmare. Its become a business... you pay enough money for enough classes, you WILL get a black belt.
KaseyAkira 4 years ago
Fella, just about any karate class IN AMERICA TODAY gives black belts to 5 and 6 year olds. Its become a business. If someone pays for enough lessons, regardless of whether they're actually learning the techniques or not, you have to graduate them to another belt. If you dont, the dojo across the street will. You'll be forced to close for teaching actual, unfun, realistic and practical karate training, while your competitor is handing out blackbelts for X number of lessons.

Animals BITE.
shoegooguru 4 years ago
Most fighters(especially thugs) are TOP heavy, meaning they have more ability; training and comfort using upper body. This is good for YOU IF you go for the legs/knees/inner thigh EARLY, hard and fast. MOST fighters will back away faster from what they are not confident to defend against.
shoegooguru 4 years ago
Trained legs are better for offense(more power/ longer reach)so go AROUND the average fighters confidence and 'home'(upper body based skills). A lttle knee pain goes a LONG way. While most fighters can take more punches than you may get the time to give out.
shoegooguru 4 years ago
There are NO "typical" grabs. do what is easiest and fastest. Less moves is ALWAYS better. BITE. Bite again!!! kick out the foundation(knee break)faster and easier than hoping you have the right stance to, or grab of an arm. EVERYBODY's knees break faster and easier than working an arm grab. Make MORE pain BEFORE asailants mind can shift from the FIRST pain!
shoegooguru 4 years ago
turn and BITE the arm!!! assailant will be either pushing or pulling YOU to where you cannot employ footwork and hand grabs quicker than you can BITE his arm. also: five pounds of downward pressure on arm will prevent the strongest guy from choking you out.

if anyone is truly interested in protectin themselves, get yourself down to a brazilian ju jitsu gym and a kick boxing or (muay tai) dojo. the best defence is attacking. also if your truley worried about yourself buy a knife or just have big friends.
hope this is useful
will
willly91 4 years ago
i would say put more emphasis on the kick boxing side or ju jitsu, not bjj, as ground techniques prove irrelevant in the street when there is broken glass on the floor or anything obstructing ur ability to go to that postition and if they attackers are in numbers. strike and run, or keep striking until u can get away would be my best advice
cryingindian 4 years ago
very true!! i didnt think of that...
ArK50 4 years ago
hahaah if you are turning turn into them, not away. actually if u get caught with the choke its a bit scarier because you can still breathe so you think your fine, then u wake up on the floor haha it sucks
cryingindian 4 years ago
hey mate. i read ur reply, u made a gwd point about the glas and the ground and that, & yeh kcik boxing should be a priority however the american, australian and british beauro of statistics all say that 80% of street fights go to the ground. so say if u are tackled (which is prety hard not to be unles u know truley how to fight) and you dont know ground atack, you are ultimatly 'fuked'.
willly91 4 years ago
u nevR no wat ur aponent is goin to do and seein as most street fights hit the ground i believe bbj shud be no1 priority.
will
willly91 4 years ago
again if its an organised fight then yes ground fighting is essential, if its a random encounter, the emphasis is on survival, so either escape, or strike until you can escape. Standing ju jitsu is good also, especially chokes and strangles. Gives you a barrier between you and other opponents
cryingindian 4 years ago
thats true, but the only thing you should use on the ground is getting back up, because chances are if the guy attacks you, he's confident he'll win, meaning his friends are there. If you fight on the ground you'll get your head jumped on. I think the best approach to an encounter is to strike anything that moves and escape as soon as possible. bjj is good but a downfall in the wrong situation
cryingindian 4 years ago
that sounds like a pretty good way of looking at it. do you practice mma or any particular art? you sound like you know what you are talking about
willly91 4 years ago
Yeh I do Ju Jitsu. Like the all round fighting jujitsu not bjj. We try and get good at a bit of everything so we might have more weapons than the average fighter. In a perfect world haha I actually thought about fighting like it was a big tournament aswell and was pretty confident in it, but then i read "Dead or Alive" by geoff thompson and its the reality that nobody wants to face. Read it man its a good book for us.
cryingindian 4 years ago
kyeme, you should really study the reality before you start teaching moves. attackers wnt just stand three like a lymp peace of jelly. I understand that karate is an art and does not have to be about fighting. but this is 'self defence'. in this situation the attacker is 85% more times bigger therefore bending his arm would be useles for hed just bend it back and come around with his right hand so to speak
willly91 4 years ago
I love when people watch videos like this and think that its gonna help them in a fight then they try to use it and get fucked up
yellowmon123 4 years ago
this kind of choke is used by people who have less experience. the best choke is known as the lock, where you actualy push the head outside and grab hard on your own arm, its kinda hard to explain. but people who know what im talking about will get me.
ArK50 4 years ago
yeh totally, also, he is telling you to turn your head, this is just turning it into a choke intead of a strangle. meaning if you arent quick enough, you'll still pass out
cryingindian 4 years ago
Are you kidding me? Nobody uses air chokes. With the UFC hype even 14 year old kids know to choke out the carotid arteries in which case you have less than 6 seconds to handle the situation or you are lights out.

you cant just pull yourself out just like that. when someone comes from behind and grabs you like that they imidiately lock their arms so unless you can overpower them while beening chocked this cant work.
dominicanpocho 4 years ago
Mohamed needs to learn to lock on that rear naked choke!
yeahsurefinewhatever 4 years ago
Seriously though, if the choke isn't locked on as shown in the video, the success of this escape move is based largely on strength vs. strength.
There is no easy way to fight. Getting out of a compromising situation is even harder.
A better defense. Tuck your chin into your chest so your neck can't be squeezed, and control the back arm (which he could use to lock a choke on) instead of trying to out-wrestle the front arm.
yeahsurefinewhatever 4 years ago
i am one hundred and ten percent with you on this that move is for when you kinda have a feeling its coming or your aware of it if somone locked that on hard there would be no way to wrestle out with your neck IMO
