  • I have a few to fillet and hopefully a few more tomorrow. Don't worry about the haters; i found this to be very informative and useful. Thanks for posting.

  • @HailThor89 Glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck on the water!

  • I wish you where standing in front of me saying this!

I would have beaten you to death with the bloody end of your own arm after i twisted it out of your shoulder!

  • Great video. I love to fish but suck at cleaning particularly pikes and this made my day's catch way more enjoyable, with only a few bones where i messed up. I was able to watch your vid from inside my little fish hut, streaming over 3G through my phone...friggin awesome!

  • Fu*#@%n bastards!

You should always release pike in the water were you caught them!

    Dumbfucks!

  • @pikewhisperer We do release them as well - but we also keep some for the table. Thanks for being concerned & best of fishing to you!

  • @pikewhisperer Ignorant asshole. wtf you talking about releasing it for? Are you the savior of Pikes? Are you on a mission? Suddenly you're a big fish activist? Go to hell fuckin moron! Keep your retarded comments to yourself. I'd like to see the video of you being cleaned out like this pike. That's right...I want you to die for this.

  • @o0EvillusioN0o Looks at his name he is just a troll.

  • i hate when people waste all the goodness and best parts by just cutting filets off. use the whole carcass by making fish stock and then make a soup or sauce out of stock..plus whole roasting fish is way much better way to prepare fish...trust me...eye balls & eye socket meat is the best! just getting filets off a fish is the same as cutting the backstrap loins from a deer and leaving the rest to rot. GREAT INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO THOUGH

  • @BadzettaAngler Glad you found the video to be informative - its a great way to get 5 boneless fillets off a pike and you are right - the remaining parts will make a fantastic base for a fish soup so nothing needs to go to waste :)

Thanks for tuning in and for taking time to write - until next time good luck and good fishign!

  • @BadzettaAngler Getting a fillet off a fish is not even close to cutting the back-strap loins from a deer and leaving the rest of the meat to rot. I see your concern though, but you have to realize its just a pike, there's tons of them...

  • awesome technique thank you very much! very very easy!

  • @jpgotboost So glad you enjoyed the video and thasnk for tuning in. All eh best in 2012 and good luck on the water!

  • By the way its not wasted if you throw it on your garden or outside anywhere the birds or raccoons will eats the rest right up

  • @MrPipeliner420 ....- thanks for sahring,......you can also use the remaining portion as a base for fish soup - it makes a great soup stock. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Thanks for writing in and good lcuk on the water!

  • Thanks I'm gonna try that right now but I bet you make it look a whole lot easier

  • @MrPipeliner420 Gad you enjoyed the video and hope your pike cleaning goes well :)

  • Bad technique and wasteful. Just pick the bones people. Quit being lazy

  • @jaofas18 Thanks for your feedback and for tuning in. Once you have removed the fillets, you can save the remainder and use it as a base for fish stock....it makes a fantastic soup.

Thanks again for taking time to write to us and we hope you have a great year on the water in 2012.

  • Thank you so much for this video. No one in my family knows how to fish and i love to fish. Everything I have learned about fishing has come from fishing shows, youtube, and most importantly time on the water. I used to release all my pike bc I wasnt sure how to fillet them. Now I can keep one or two bc of this video. The only issue I had was the first fillet on the back. You can see a spine go directly down the middle of that fillet. I just cut a quater quarter inch out to get rid of that spine

  • @backlund5 Glad you enjoyed the video - you are going to really enjoy have a pike fish fry as they are very tasty!

  • Great video...not hopefully I don't mess up my 8 lb'er in the other room :)

  • @SNIPERF0RHIRE Glad you enjoyed the video and congrats on the 8 pounder - that's a nice fish!

  • after eating a pike full of bones, i figured there had to be a better way, and after watching this clip, this is how i do it so thanks to you good sir, and good luck catching the big one

  • @kilroywashere68 Glad you enjoyed the video and that we were able to help - pike is delicious and you will most likely really enjoy it next time :)

  • @thundermistlures pike is definitely one of my favorites, probably tied for first with yellow perch, and there is finally enough ice for ice fishing and that means fresh pike :D

  • Wow! That's the best method I've ever seen!

  • @Nunchukawaria So glad you enjoyed the video - you are going to love this method and we hope you have a great year on the water in 2012!

  • im assuming this would be the same for pickerel, correct?

  • @PersonWithAnAccount7 This method will work for pickerel as well since the bone structures are identical. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures after school today me and 2 buddies went out ice fishing and caught a few pickerel. i kept one and fillet it this way and then just fried it up and PICKEREL IS AMAZING! its a nice white meat and never dry. i will keep a couple pickerel every time i go out now because they eat everything and there are plenty of them

  • @PersonWithAnAccount7 Sounds like you had a great day on the water (ice that is) and glad to hear you caught a lot of pickerel. They are fun to catch and great to eat as well.

Thanks for writing in and until next time, good lcuk and good fishing.

  • thanks a lot ! what a great technique, will try that next time; best regards from Belgium

  • @rudhouse1 It's a basic technique that should work for you. Remember, the remainder of the carcass can be used to make a fish stock......delicious! Thanks for writing & good fishing in Belgium!

  • i viewed this video a couple of years ago and have showed at least a dozen people this technique. I have cleaned two fish on ice with pocket knife for two old boyz fishing. We are now pretty good buddys on the ice. Please send some Upper P chill down south to me in W. Michigan. Need my ice

  • @johnbowen1000 Glad to hear our video was helpful for you and thanks for tuning in.....not to worry....the ice is on the way!

  • @johnbowen1000 i know

  • Thanks so much for the video . I know now how to clean a pike correctly and it was super easy! Your video was straight and to the point, again thanks!

  • @jr982012 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write! Until next time good luck and good fishing!

  • Helpful. Thanks for sharing. I like the way it avoids having to extract the y-bones and how it makes for five nice fillets.

  • @YooperDooper1 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write - you are going to love this method as it is simple and yet very effective!

Until next time good luck and good fishing.

  • Amazing Clarity! Great Video!

  • @RockUmagic Thanks & good fishing to you!

  • When cleaning pike, i prefer to fillet them like a walleye but then with practice you can feel out the Y bones. They are a unique shape but once you figure them out you can get 2 perfect fillets without wasting very much meat.

  • @bsrkoacar Great tip & thanks for sharing! We'll have to give it a try. Also note, if you do have meat "left over" (such as in this video) you can use it to make soup stock, so nothing needs to go to waste.

Thanks for writing in and good lcuk on the water.

  • This way sucks. Cut each side off completly, then de-bone fron there. There is to much good meat wasted. I can't believe how many people throw meat away because they don't know how to clean them properly.

  • @fisherdan1000 Thanks for writing in and for you feedback. If you ever decide to try this method, you can use the left over meat as soup base, so nothing needs to go to waste. If you do, just be sure to strain your soup stock through a fine strainer, to catch any bones.

Thanks again for tuning in and for taking time to write to us. Until next time good luck and good fishing.

  • this is the best northern filleting video online. very informative and succinct. excellent job!

  • @ragefan58503 Thanks - glad it helped you! Good fishing!

  • I do not have my license yet so I can't get to better fishing spots, but the ones that are in walking distance are filled with pickeral, do you think you could use the same fillet method on pickeral? or could you do a "how to" video sometime soon for pickeral. thanks

  • @knifeking14 Pickerel have the same bone structure as pike, therefore the same method can be used. Thanks!

  • would the fillets get thicker with a bigger pike?

  • @60clayton Yes they do get thicker and are just as good. Thanks & good fishing!

  • do you have any videos about pike fishing cause i really kneed some tips. ive only caught 2 pike in my life and 1 time it was by accident

  • @SuperPensfan8771 We plan on do some pike videos next year and share some tips - in the meanwhile, we do have plenty of different tips for you on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site, whihc you will be able to apply when fishing for pike as well.

  • Whoa, new method for me. Thanks for teaching.

  • @BaneODietPepsi Pike are worth cleaning! Good luck!

  • Man pike are such a good lucking fish i missed my 1st pike a few weeks ago he broke the line so i started pulling a bit of the line that i got back from in the water in wich he broke then i had to wade out to the floater and try and pull him in but he broke that too hopefully i'll get him some day.

  • @HomeMadeGunNut Keep trying...you'll get him! Good luck!

  • Nicely done. Makes catching these fish much more fun. Thanks!

  • @gryphon50 Thanks & good fishing!

  • Thank you for sharing this video! I am by no means good at de-boning fish, particularly pikes. I will try this next time I go fishing!

  • @larnst Give it a try - it's great for beginners. Thanks & good luck!

  • Just started pike fishing and love it. Somthing to do close to home here in Iowa. Video helped me out bro thanx

  • @packerstandard Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you catch plenty of pike!

  • Wasteful method, no good. Seen better

  • @Kilogram24 We're sure there are much better methods than this, but this is a method for beginners to try. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures I guess for a beginner... I knew a girl who would "peel" a potato by cutting a cube and the big chunks that came off the sides were her "peels"... kinda reminds me of that. Also, you need to cut out the cheeks - the best part.

  • @Kilogram24 Thanks for sharing your tips on the cheeks - we always remove the walleye cheeks but now we'll have to try the pike cheeks :)

  • @JSWAGx75 Pike is great eating! Try it if you get a chance. Good fishing!

  • Um. You didn't scale it first. wtflolz

  • @tolpacourt No need to scale it. The skin was removed in this case. Thanks!

  • thank you now i can eat good with out bones!

  • @pegg900 You're welcome! Good fishing & good eating!

  • great vid! this is my favorite way to clean pike, sure you waste just a little bit of meat but unless your a horrible fishermen and only catch one fish a year its not an issue

    cheers

  • @TaNgLeD2121 Glad you enjoyed the video and if you want, you can use the remaining pike meat/bones to make a soup base....just make sure to strain the broth with a very fine stainer. this way, nothing needs to go to waste :)

Thanks for tuning in and hope you are having a great summer on the water!

  • Thank you

  • @patng2222 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for tuning in. Until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • lol i thought u were gonna leave the tail meat and im like really?

  • @321checkcheck We surely don't want to leave the tail meat! Thanks & good fishing!

  • On a small pike I just skip the sides as the fillets are pretty thin, but better than when you try to remove the y bones. :-)

  • @Monteh1959 Thanks for sharing & good luck on the water!

  • I have switched to this method, no bones

  • @Monteh1959 Good job. If done correctly, there should be no bones. Thanks!

  • this method nearly choked my friend to death

  • You said "boneless fillet"....and it had bones in it

  • @xxaimpiratexx Not sure why the fillets had bones in them, but thanks for taking time to write to us. We hope your summer is going well and that you are having a great time on the water.

  • @thundermistlures Not sure either but oh well. Thanks for the video guys.

  • please make more!

  • @marnienorris Thanks....we'll try!

  • ahhh im stuffed, thanks to you!

  • @lexmark136 That's good! Pike are good eating! Good fishing!

  • thanks now i can get boneless fillets out of pickrel.

  • @Grizzman600 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for writing in!

  • thanks going fishing tommorow hope i catch some pike to try this

  • @TdWpMETALCORE Best of luck to you!

  • Fantastic! thank you

  • @KymaticaHealth You're welcome & good fishing to you!

  • looks cool but better camera please i really cant see anything on close ups!

  • @bananaman22 Perhaps someday we can do another video. Thanks for your comment!

  • I i always thought that the Y bones went down further then that little section but this video will save me so much time in trying to remove them pesky lil buggards.. I'm going on a trip and we use to throw Northern back and now i'll be able to keep them! Thank You!! :D

  • @jrnuts13 That's great! They are truely worth cleaning. Good luck!

  • Your technique is nearly flawless. However, I find when doing the fillet on the back it is better if you remove a quarter inch strip in the middle of the spine. You end up with a cleaner back fillet, and when you batter and dry the pieces you end up with 4 pieces of fish sticks. Try it, let me know.

  • @13jamer Thanks for writing in and sharing your tips with us! We'll have to give it a try.

  • Wow, that is very different than cleaning any other fish I've ever caught. Thanks so much for posting your video! I will surely employ your technique when I bring home my first pike!

  • @LUckybones25 Glad you enjoyed the video and good luck on your next pike.....you're in for some good eating!

  • that pike was cool, ive always wanted to catch one with the yellow bottom half.

why was it like that NICE PIKE!

  • @999outdoors Pike display color variations according to the water clarity. Thanks for writing & good fishing!

  • I have shared this video with quite a few people and its great. getting the process down to a science. Plus, once you de-bone them they actually taste better than walleye.

  • @TurnEhDogh Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Pike are truely delicious! Good fishing!

  • great video, im in alaska and been catching alot of pike (purposely) recently and have just been stocking them in my pond because i was unsure of how to debone them. i have no other fish in the pond that i know of currently so i dont care if they just take the pond over. anywho....great video, wont be setting as many free any more.. ;)

  • @fromrussiawiluv They are very much worth cleaning! Good luck & good fishing!

  • man went up north last summer with family and friends on a fishing trip we ended up getting 4 nice large pike and no one could clean fish without gaging exept for myself but i had never cleaned a pike its gets to be a sort of art form you want to get the best cuts possible... for a first time doing it i did pretty well but as i was cutting into one i guess the lungs were full so as i sliced down it pushed the air out and caused the fish tho whine scared the crap outta me haha :)

  • @Brentor14 Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Hope you have many more great days on the water!

  • lol @ lungs ;)

  • @mojocuiii sorry air bladder ? i fish alot but i dont know fish anatomy

  • i never leave the meat on the bottom

  • @CanadianOutdoors That's good....it's a matter of prefference. Good fishing!

  • This a great video, I am getting very good at deboning pike. Thank you.

  • @TurnEhDogh Great stuff - good fishing!

  • When we fish Canada and the Walleye aren't biting, we eat Northerns, which taste like sewer rat compared to Walleye. But, with no Walleye on the table to devour. We have found that if you fillet the larger pike fillets into about half an inch thickness, before breading them. It makes the fish taste sweeter and also, the thinner fillets cook quicker and more evenly than hulking 1 1/2 -2 inch slabs of pike flesh. Not to mention when you serve the fish onthe platter there are twice as many pieces.

  • @immovable1 Thanks for sharing! Good fishing!

  • all the years my dad wouldnt clean a pike because of too much bones wait till i show him this

  • @SuperPensfan8771 Once your dad sees this method, he will be sure to clean his next pike as it is very easy and pike is delicious!

Thanks for writing in and good lcuk on the water.

  • @thundermistlures yah the last time we went pike fishing was a long time ago and we could not find the pond but when we left for home we finally saw it isnt that carma

  • mmmm...pike...

  • @beefygreenapples Yes, very very tasty. Good fishing!

  • time comsuming & a lot meat wasted we know a better and faster way what an idiot

  • @MrJuice18 Happy to hear that you have a better method! There are always different ways to do things. Agree that the method shown in the video is not the best but it is an easy method for beginners to try for their first time. Thanks for sharing & good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures finally got the vid on u tube if u want to check it out just go to my channel.sorry for the negative comments.hope you like it, give me some feedback neg or not.

  • @MrJuice18 We watched your video - thanks for sharing! Those were nice fish and your knife was super sharp, which is alwyas a good thing :)

Hope your summer is going well and that you are having a good time on the water.

  • @thundermistlures was mr juices way of pike cleaning better? cause i wont believe it until pros like u say it is better

  • @SuperPensfan8771 There are many ways of cleaning pike, and it's hard to say if one is better than another. They are all good, it's just a mater of whihc one comes easiest to you and that you like to use. Suggest that you try some different ones and we're sure you'll be able to find a favorite.

Thanks again for taking time to write to us and until next time, good luck and good fishing!

  • @MrJuice18 Yea lets see your video then Jerk Off!! Love these fags who hop on and can't back their mouths up. Until I see your video FUCK OFF LOSER!

  • @kotakintai who u callin a fag you cocksucker

  • @MrJuice18 Actually I called you a Jerk Off, then a Fag Then a Loser. Read it again you Dumb Fuck, Know nothing, Goof!!!

  • @kotakintai just u wait u imbread piece of shit

  • @kotakintai your mom and dad asswipe

  • @MrJuice18 Do you have absolutely no life you just sit on this guys video and make comments?? Oh BTW it's "INBREED" not "IMBREED" you illiterate cum bubble. Also you filet technique sucks ass, Thundermistlures is using the best technique that is used by the Pros. Your technique is for children and mentally challenged Tard Monkeys like yourself!

  • @kotakintai lets c your vid then asswipe other wise just fuck off.do the world some good and go dive in a pile of shit so u can blend right in u cocksucker

  • @MrJuice18 I would love to see yor video, good luck even catching one big enough to clean, when you get a video send it to me and i'll tell you what you did wrong, this guy did a good job and yes left SOME meat, but not a waste of fish. Fuck off buddy :)

  • @Omgzitzrocket i live by a 65 mile long lake so i know what i'm talking about look under god's lake narrows or elk island the people u will c there i guide with so why don't u fuck off,and i wouldn't cut up a snot rocket.just for that expect my video ok asshole.

  • @MrJuice18 oh yeah forgot to tell u to look at elk island lodge website for those of you that don't know our lake its the best fishing in the world one of them anyway.so i'll leave it at that and wait for my vid.

  • @MrJuice18 Im waiting on you video fucktard, i love fishing and i can tell you probably know what your doing if you LIVE beside a lake... that automatically makes you an amazing fisherman...

  • @MrJuice18 hey if you have got a better method than make a video if i dont see one than ill just think that you have nothing better to do than comment bad things on peoples vids

  • @SuperPensfan8771 just you wait asswipe

  • Comment removed

  • what a waste of a fish. bring your fish to me next time, ill show you how to really do it. there will be nothin but bones left. ill even show you how to remove the Y bones too.. after im done ill present to you near perfect pike fillets.

  • @lrecollet Sounds like you have mastered the art of pike cleaning! Great job!! Good fishing to you!

  • Wow, what a waste of meat. Granted, this method is easy and quick but why kill a fish for only half the meat? Y-bones are a pain but the traditional method of fileting can still work with much less wastage.

  • @TheMarkb777 There is still more meat that could be removed with added practice. We actually don't waste any meat as we make a fish stock from the entire carcass with the exception of the head. Thanks for commenting & good fishing to you!

  • Speared a nice 30 incher today. Never cleaned one but thanks to ur vid it made it very easy thank you!

  • @glock342617 Glad the video has helped you! By the way... nice fish!

  • For artificials I recommend swimbaits that appear like the baitfish native to the body of water that you're fishing in. How I got a 22 incher today :D

  • @xxaimpiratexx Thanks for that great tip! Nice fish!

  • @mrfryguyry ....you physically can, but it's not recommended for many reasons....for example, the first eye on a casting rod is very small, ass are all the rest of the eyes - the Spinning reel needs a rod with a large eye, followed by a series of smaller eyes.

We actaully have an article on this subject on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site, as many other people have asked this same quesiton - check it out if you get a chance.

Until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • @mrfryguyry In that price range, you can buy an Ugly Stik, made by Shakespeare. They make a great rod, for a good price.

Thanks for writing in and good fishing!

  • Thank you, I just followed your instructions and got fantastic results!!!

  • @MikeMcc100 So glad we were able to help and thanks for this feedback....it's very nice for us to hear and we appreciate it!

Until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • @thundermistlures this worked well for me wih one exeption....the first top fillet you removed had a ton of huge bones in it for me......am i going in too deep or what?

  • @giiwed You're cutting too deep. We're sure your next one will be perfect! Good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures ya it was thanks.....i grew up around a town that viewed pike as a "garbage" fish....i would catch hundreds and never keep any...lots of people i knew would kill them just because they thought they were bad for the trout and pickerel....but now that i actually tried them i find they are very very simillar to pickerel if you can get all the bones out....you have even inspired me to fry up the most "garbage" fish of all...ling!(burbot)......and guess what???theyre good

  • @giiwed Pike & burbot are good to eat. We enjoy them both. Thanks for sharing with us!

  • I'm told burbot cubed, floured and deep fried tastes like lobster.

  • @mrfryguyry In early spring, try fishing in shallow bays with a live chub or large shiner & a float.

Try in 10 feet of water or less and locate the float about 3-4 feet above the hook. Hook the bait through the tail so it will remain lively. Cast and watch the float. Don't reel-in unless you need to. Pike will stay close to shore lines so you may adjust the float location on your main line as needed. Spring is an excellent time to catch pike and you may try as soon as ice-out. Good luck!

  • Great video but I'll find a way to eat the rest of the fish. Just look at the meat left over!

  • i cooked and filleted my first pike this weekend it was a little hard to fillet but i found the meat to be pretty comparable to walleye i enjoyed the hell out of it

  • @czarandmaeve Pike is very tasty! Good fishing!

  • some call it a waterwolf some call it a snake

you can catch em in the river you can catch em in the lake

    SHAD RAPP

  • thanks for the info i think ill try it

  • @zakkwylde1984 Give it a try - pike are truley worth keeping! Good fishing!
