Interesting video but if you want to live like these people you don't have to decorate your home with 40s furniture just come to live in Hungary or any other ex-soviet Eastern European country. Because of the effects of Communism, time stopped here and everything looks like a rundown version of 1940s USA, people above 30 have "vintage values" for sure, and wages are pretty low, so you won't fall into the temptation of buying a truckload of clothes! But I prefer living here to the decadent West!
This is SO COOL. I'm obsessed with the 40s, but don't live its lifestyle or anything like these women do. I own a couple dresses, a record player and a lot of records, but thats about it. I love to escape while home and pretend i'm back in that time, it's a nice way to escape and forget about your troubles. So I do understand these women in that aspect.
@stlgtrace These people are just one type of women living an interesting lifestyle. I think it's wrong to say that acting a certain way makes someone "more of a woman/man" or "less of a woman/man".
@kevhast Well, you're entitled to your opinion but the fact these ladies care so much about their appearence, rather than looking unkempt and like slobs as so many do these days, and actually care about making their husband or boyfriend happy says a lot about them. I personally find it quite refreshing that they do not look/act/talk like prostitutes!
I think these women care more about LOOKING the part then BEING the part. I am a house wife and homemaker and I do EVERYTHING these women do and you know what.... I still go online, want children, call friends ext. and live a normal life. It doesn't make me better but it makes me realistic. I'm not fooling myself into think the world can stop or change. I just live to MY standers and way of life. Someone needs to show thes women that they CAN have a old world life in a new world way.
@growingthehome like me, they probably hate the 'new world'. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live in your own little old fashioned world... everyone should live to their own *standards*, whether they are closing out the modern world are letting it in. Live & let live!
I love these women :) Although I work, and have the internet, my husband & I have filled our house with 1950s furniture and aspire to a similar lifestyle. Glad to see that we are definitely not alone :)
kids dont have respect for aduls anymore?? well adults need to have respect for KIDS. i hate when people say "respect elders" its like, bitch no. just cause ur older then me, doesnt mean ur better then me...these people are fricked up in the head!
@GaGa4Kate When someone is older, it generally means they have more life experience than you, and more often than not are wiser than you. Even though you may think you know it all now, you'll look back upon your young self in years to come and see how clueless you really were. If adults don't 'respect' kids, it's because they've been there, done that, and can see how ridiculous your behavior and attitudes probably are. You'll change your mind when you get older I guarantee it. Good Luck!
@glamatomic not true, i dont agree. everyone should be treated like equals. i will NOT respect an elder unless they respect me. no adults ganna tell me what to do like that. it makes me sick people think thats how they should live.
I think these people romanticize these periods a bit too much... Not that I don't respect their lifestyles, but I think they are striving for something that really never was.
@toughcrowd94 Yes perhaps in a way, they live their lives according to the magazines and movies from that era.
But some also live in an old fashioned style without the glamour.
Also remember that things that were normal then so quickly seem luxerious and fancy to modern people because we today live in a cheap plastic world where we're just not used to people looking like that and decorating their houses like that.
Normal stuff then is retro, cool and often valuable today.
@nederland4045 I do agree with you. I didn't mean EVERYONE who lives like this, but some of them, yes. I act some what similarly to the people in this video; my bedroom looks like a time warp! And quite frankly I think the style of dressing is much nicer too. I also think certain values and morals were there that aren't today, but I believe that some people living like this are trying to live in a dream world that never actually existed. I could be wrong, but that's just what I think.
@toughcrowd94 Yes I agree, at least part of the nostalgia most (not all) people have who have the 'vintage bug', is very romantic.
A romanticized view of the past, few actually think everything was better then.
But even people like me who live in more realistic 1930s way (I hope) often realise that even knowing all the bad sides, the past still has a LOT of good sides.
Longing for the past while you know the bad sides, makes the longing only stronger ;)
@Calaquendi That's not what disturbs me. All of these women have been burned some how. They are becoming withdrawn from the world. That is NOT healthy. I am ALL for looking the vintage part.. but LIVING that kind of life. I mean one of the women didn't even know what the date was!
@xxhoundessxx I too have a retro lifestyle, but am I more withdrawn from the world then modern people who rush home after work (with their Ipod so they don't hear other people) and then close door and curtains so they can watch tv for the rest of the evening?
Everyone withdraws from the world in one way or another.
And what is so great about the world to not withdraw from?
I often don't know what date it is, that happens when you don't have a 5 day workweek.

@growingthehome These women also live a normal life, but it just looks different and they probably have different manners.
Why would you have an old world life in a new world way?
It would be the same except it would look worse.

this is great. I'm doing a research about women during those times: their fashion, their furniture, cars, homes, etc. it's so inspiring!
