I've asked plenty of native Japanese speakers, and they've all agreed that 今日is USUALLY (almost always) read as "きょう". However, it CAN be read as "こんにち" in some formal writings. Just because you've never used it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Yeah. You need to type "Kyou" Because that is the word for today. "きょう"　"今日"　Also, the word for small you pronounced "chichai" but as the person below me said, it's ちいさい　or Chiisai. (小さい）.

What you need to do is enable the language bar in Windows XP, then you can change between hiragana and katakana, and like he said if you hit space, it will convert it to Kanji if possible, or just hit Enter to keep the hiragana. I've been practicing in Second Life trying to talk to people there.

They're fairly easy to learn once you know the hiragana. The three small ones are ya, yu and yo. And it's only done with the "i" consonants like ki, shi, chi, ni, etc. kya, kyu, kyo, sha, shu, sho. A few exceptions just like with hiragana. Just look em up on wiki or something.
