The album is named Contra because from what I read Vampire Weekend are very influenced by punk classic The Clash's album named "Sandinista!", which is one of the main Nicaraguan political parties, so Vampire Weekend thought it would correlate well to name the album off of an inspiriation from an old punk classic. Oh and by the way I thought I would point this out because I'm Nicaraguan. I'm probably you're only Nicaraguan viewer.

I think you should of listened to the lyrics more not all of them was the theme you said it was. And this sound track was better than you rated it. So yeah thats all I got to say other than diplomats son and taxi cab were the best songs in my opioun.

Horchata is delicious!! it's really sweet andd elicious. but then again it's like a Mexican heritage drink. and as for "California English" i hated it for the fact of overusage of AUTOTUNE!! but they band doesn't overall wow me. although i do like the usage of reggae and ska in this album.

I'm not giving a rating, but if I were, I'd give the album five stars and this reviewer one star. My god. She completely misreads so many of the themes and references in Contra that it's not worth enumerating them. Please stop reviewing music, or at the very least stay away from songwriting that delves beyond the high school teenybopper level. This will be the last review of hers I listen to.

Ezra was in my first english class at columbia. Though I never really befriended him, I was told he majored in it as well. Frankly, not everyone is a genius by going to an ivy. Everyone simply works hard like any other good student. there is a lot more unannounced competition, I will say..... But that's neither here nor there; the point is that together they do form a creative ensemble, like anyone who opens their mind to many possibilities. They are great though.

This album...Gah.

I've been around with them since they released their self-titled album and sweet Jesus....Let me tell you, this album is fuckin' mind blowing.

I bought a couple singles, (Horchata, White Sky, Taxi Cab, and Run) and I almost shit my pants. I do not kid. This album left me with my mouth on the floor.
