It states that man was made in the image of God, however that doesn't rule out the possibility that other creatures could of been made in God's image as well. Its a spiritual metaphor. Maybe many of those huge buildings were already there when modern humans arrived, and all they did was to adapt themselves to the surroundings, being influenced by the style of the construction, which explains the similarity between what they made and what was already there.

Organisms that live in acid, chlorine, alkaline, and toxic environments are usually very small and not at the same stage of development as we are now, here on Earth. In other words, we are seeking out those like us because it is a starting point. We are still very young and inexperienced at this. Give us time.

@louisgworld just require air? Our air is filled with water molecules. That's what humidity is. Scientists agree (especially recently) that other elements could support life. But we generalize to what we have to survive both as a way to simplify the search, and also, to find planets in which we may one day find refuge, as this solar system will not always be able to maintain the Earth as it is now.
@louisgworld Well the point of what the guy said though, was that everything on this planet requires water to a degree in order to survive. So that's what we look for be because it's what we know. In the end, finding a planet where life exists AND there's water, means we can live there too. If we find a planet of sulphur life, we would say ooo and ahhh, but then move on because it's not worth for our own survival. Anyways, we can only really go on what we know as the standard.

Researchers have started to look at sulphur planets now too, thanks to recent discoveries on Earth. Basically, temperature is becoming the main focal point now. Also, the fact is, if we're gonna look for life we want to interact with, it's best to stick to commonalities.

Yes there may be entities out there that can operate without air and water but we have no evidence yet. All signs point to water being needed for life to begin and thrive. Maybe many of those huge buildings were already there when modern humans arrived, and all they did was to adapt themselves to the surroundings, being influenced by the style of the construction, which explains the similarity between what they made and what was already there.

As far as I am concerned, since the government pulled its money fom SETI back in the 90s, if they (SETI) find verifiable intellegant life they are free to do whatever they want with the information and results. I certainly believe just about any legitimate scientist engaged in the search for extraterrestial beings is far more likely to do what is really needed with the new information. The government screws everything up.

I love this! it shows facts, gives information and if you have an average IQ, you can see prove in almost every signs/portraits/images/text. If you compare them, you can see and understand amazing things.

The aliens don't like us. I mean why would some advanced race of AI come down to earth when our military kills its own people for greed? The first thing the MIC would do would be to disect the alien for who knows what purpose maybe cloning and then reengineer the spacecraft for its own defensive gain. On a planet where organisms live even in pure sulphuric acid, we have the arrogance to say water and air is necessary for organisms on other planets. We don`t know shit and are taking pot shots, thats the long and short of it. Life forms on other planets doesn`t even have to be carbon based, so making such a sweeping assumption serves only one purpose: narrowing down what we are looking for. Which means excluding enormous amounts of space. Way to go...

Organisms that live in acid, chlorine, alkaline, and toxic environments are usually very small and not at the same stage of development as we are now, here on Earth. In other words, we are seeking out those like us because it is a starting point. We are still very young and inexperienced at this. Give us time.

@louisgworld just require air? Our air is filled with water molecules. That's what humidity is. Scientists agree (especially recently) that other elements could support life. But we generalize to what we have to survive both as a way to simplify the search, and also, to find planets in which we may one day find refuge, as this solar system will not always be able to maintain the Earth as it is now.

@louisgworld Well the point of what the guy said though, was that everything on this planet requires water to a degree in order to survive. So that's what we look for be because it's what we know. In the end, finding a planet where life exists AND there's water, means we can live there too. If we find a planet of sulphur life, we would say ooo and ahhh, but then move on because it's not worth for our own survival. Anyways, we can only really go on what we know as the standard.

@ThePracticalTheorist To be fair, we have to base it on what we know. Otherwise, It would take even longer to find anything. That being said, this "documentary" is a bit old. Researchers have started to look at sulphur planets now too, thanks to recent discoveries on Earth. Basically, temperature is becoming the main focal point now. Also, the fact is, if we're gonna look for life we want to interact with, it's best to stick to commonalities.

@ThePracticalTheorist I agree with your notion on one level. However, we only have the Earth. Thats all we know, so thats all we have to work with. Yes there may be entities out there that can operate without air and water but we have no evidence yet. All signs point to water being needed for life to begin and thrive. We have evidence of that on Earth, and maybe Mars. The theory isnt excluding acid organisms, it's just based on what we already know to be fact.

i think Humans are test tube creations, where we've been given time to develop for some sort of slave purpose and one day, Aliens will re-visit us to take us for what they need us for.
If you think about it, humans IN PRESENT DAY are Stronger, Faster and Smarter than we've ever been before and it's only going to keep changing.. it could happen modern times but then i'd say more than likely in the future, because we're not really THAT advanced yet.

I'm totally confident that there's other life in the universe that's at least as advanced as we are, and totally uncertain whether it could make it here and whether we'd really want it to come. If we are going to broadcast to them, it would be in our best interest to be completely silent about our military capabilities and emphasize everything that's good about humans, including that we're open to diplomacy. At least that's what I got out of Star Trek.

I'm really interested in the ideas presented here and I do tend to believe such things are not only possible but true, but this show is nothing but a bunch of sensationalist garbage.

All they would need is enough of a head start, to have technology that we can't even dream of. Would they be capable of interstellar travel if they were 2,000 years ahead of us? How about 1 million years ahead of us, or 10 million, or 10 billion? Of course they could travel through space... Heck look at our technology exploding; 100 years ago we used horse and buggies...

@sam4029: Wasn't calling YOU silly; just the argument that aliens CAN'T travel to us: A common view, that since we can't figure out space travel yet, then it must be too far for aliens to reach us, without their ships falling apart. BUT our limits of tech and imagination, are because we are such a newly-evolved species and civilization. Our limits can't be assumed on aliens, especially if thousands or millions of years older than us! Given enough time, tech brings MASTERY of physics etc.

Second, my point is that we can't assume that our technological limits, are also the same limits for species that are much older than us, by thousands or millions of years! We can't imagine how much our own technology will develop in even 100 years from now, let alone further... Would disclosure really crumble Earth's religions? I guess Christianity would be discredited a bit, with its entrenched exclusivity and denouncement of all other religions. Maybe some other religions would have similar problems. However BUDDHISM has always included belief in billions of worlds, dimensions, unknown life forms etc. So I think Buddhism would be fine, at least...

The War of the World broadcast freaked ppl out because the fake bulletins said the aliens were killing people and causing destruction. Also, it was a very early time in our technological development when ppl had rarely heard about the idea of aliens. Today, we've seen it in movies for decades, we see it in science, we see it on YouTube and hear it on talk radio.
