  • what is this song

  • A lot of work when u can just draw it on with a sharpie...

  • Whats the name of the song at the begining of the video? by the way, great tutorial. :)

  • lol why the hell am I watching this

  • what lights are you refering to?

  • What is up with the lights?!?

  • @EpicHawk Darkroom

  • okay, that weird swishy thing on the screen is REALLY bugging me... D:<

  • DARK ROOM

  • it is always a good idea to coat on both sides to build stencil thickness. The thickness of the emulsion is what dictates the amount of ink that you are able to put down which is what will give you coverage.

  • do you need to use the emulsion coat on both sides of the screens? isn´t just the outside enough to do the job?

  • @contrastej I don't think so. Just my opinion.

  • Anyone know if you can draw on the print with fabric pens or something??

Cause I've printed some shirts, but they need some fine detail

  • dvavwsvwvvewefwrgdehtb

  • wnna try but i dont have those machines.. and the materials.. you r so expert .. i cant follow yah, just watch :P

  • @rockwepunk We have lots of videos that make the process easier to understand, check them out on our channel, have fun watching

  • interesting, makes me want to try!

  • now i know why people go to shops to get their Ts done. those machines and light sensitive crazyness; still want to make mine though :/ heh

  • Comment removed

  • any printer can print on a transparency but not all printers are compatable with the RIP software which is what allows for the darkest transperency.

  • Hello, Your video is great. Please tell me Epson Epson Stylus Photo 1390 or TX700 is able to print on transparencies or not. Thanks

  • video makers these guys are not

  • if i was epileptic i deffenetly would have juts gotten a siezure from your intro

  • DIY is punk rock o_o

  • @LelandTheLush Or Hippy, don't leave those poor soles out :p

  • What's with the weird voice doubling?

  • @AJAXFlash I was so stoned watching this and i couldn't stop wondering wtf was up with the voice double too. tripped me out

  • What kind of ink should we use to print onto the transparencies?

  • @wznpersuasion Epson Printers work best!

  • @Ryonet Epson printers are the only ones who can be used with the certain type of ink needed?

  • @wznpersuasion I find good quality laser printers work good too. Get some toner enhancer/darkener too. Never had issues burning in screens with transparencies made with a laser printer.

  • It is really a very fabulous job you have done. I am really enjoying this. Hey check out printfly on google and create a variety of custom t-shirt design.

  • There are cheaper ways to do this and are just as effective. Someone can make the same design 10x cheaper

  • Thanks to Billy's post, he gave me the lead to BulkShirtsWarehouse (dot) com and now I get Gildan or Jerzees heavyweight for $1.82 ea. I would love to take credit for the awesome find, but credit goes to him.

  • the random flares in the beginning are really annoying.

  • Hi! are the film positive and transparency film the same?

  • Wow! this brings back memories. I used to print shirts at MJ Soffee. My fingers would be so sore every morning from pulling that squeegee. I worked on a six color carousel. One thing, at Soffee, they didn't bother with a press or pallet for one color prints. They would just lay the shirts right out on the table and lay the screen on it and squeegee it. But you had to be really good at it not to smear it.

  • Ryonet, I just recently bought everything I needed to start my own screen printing, and I have a lot of different designs I've done. They are all paintings and ink drawings though. How can I get these to a film positive? Do I need a special printer or something?

    Thank you for your time!

  • what paint or what thing did u use 3:55 - 4:10 in the first method? when you wash 6:20 it its stayed in silk screen 6:25

    plz help me

  • Is ascetate okay to use?

  • what's the best paint in painting onto a shirt??!!!

  • Dear Ryonet, I liv in Amsterdam, Holland. I need a few supplies. My question is, do you have an outlet here in Holland?

  • wtf. all this shit costs around 1k easy. surely this isnt the way warhol did it. lol. i want to do this but really??? too long of a process and to many materials haha. stencil and industrial spray paint ftw :DDD

  • It's wet ink. don't even try to put paper over it to dry it. The Plastisol ink requires a specific high temp to cure.

  • Informative, but this is more of a commercial for the company. This stuff must cost thousands.

  • YEah ok, and if i'm like poor and cannot use all of those stuff? I pass on to other medium I suppose?

    GRRR.

  • i dont know if an iron can reach the right temperature to cure the ink

  • a heat gun they're about the size of a blow dryer..same ones used at a shop that puts window tint on cars.dont know how much they cost tho

  • this seems to be one of the only good videos about how to screen print.. great video!!

  • the lights are only at the beginning. rest of video has great info

  • What is the purpose of the annoying light? I give this a zero because of this.

  • The "annoying" light was a light that has a wavelength that will not dry or "burn" the emulsion fluid before you want to.

  • That's only one color, I want to see that spiky hair guy print 2 or more colors (6 would be great) on multiple shirts on a press that spins!

I guess I'm just mad since I'm not a Marketeer trying to sell a cash cow. I really should have been a Marketeer!!!!!

The spiky hair guy said it himself, your only going to get "good registration" on the stuff they sell and that is not what I want. Youtees is what you want if you want to screen print quality shirts and not pay a Marketeer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic

  • or Gimp

  • the intro music sounds like "lucy in the sky with diamonds" :P. nice video!

  • Why the light on the video, it does not sense.

I can't see anything about the processes

  • Great Vid! It answered a lot of questions

  • I want to print PVC business cards with silk screen print, and id like to know what options there are for inks, a)how many colour b)glossy or matte option c)transparent ink like varnish to make a matte card looks like glossy on this area

Are there on the market what i ask?

  • Loved it. This was much more informative than any of the other videos I've seen so far.

  • what is the width and length of that frame youput emulsion on?

  • Thanks so much for the video!

One question: Do I have to work in total darkness when working with emulsion? Or can I work with relative darkness? I mean since I dont have a UV light if I isolate a room from darkness but still have light coming in from the bottom of the door, can Istill work with that?

    Thanks

  • No, you just need a UV safe bulb. Get a small desk lamp and put a "bug light" bulb in it and you'll be good. That's the easiest way.

  • I couldnt find a yellow Bug light, all I coucld find was called also Bug light" but the light is blue and the seller told me he does not think it is UV safe. Is it better to do it in darkness? or relative darkness? Or can I try the blue light anyway?

  • Check out my videos for explanations of the screen printing process. Questions welcome.

  • Need lots of equipment to do correctly.

  • i LOVE this song

  • do you know what the song is called by any chance ?

  • strange and beautiful - aqualung

  • can the ink be put with an air brush?

  • Lol Coral Draw was like weird sounding when they said it lol....

  • Before anyone starts any business. Make sure that you know that this is what you really wan't to do. See how many people do the same thing in your area. Make sure that if you decide to do screen printing what level of screen printing you want to do. To do it on a level to make money you need to invest a lot of money. not a starter kit.

  • If you want to meet your contract fast or on time, then you will need these things. If it's just a home project you can just mess around. Seems like most of us here want to make some money out of this though

  • will i need to get a new cartridge for my printer? or is normal printer ink good to print on transparency films?

  • i dont know i really need the answer though

  • best way of knowing is try and error

  • didnt error i tried it work like

    poof

  • Nice! then I take your word for it and have a spare trial&error for other time :-P

  • dude it does work

    any ink would wrk

    i tried it

  • Hi there,

What sort of tape is best for covering up the edges of my screen frame that doesn't have exposed emulsion on it?

    David

  • i have a question if i drew my multiple color design on a blank sheet of paper am i suppose to transfer it to adobe photo shop or draw it on photoshop?

    thx

  • Ultimately you need to be able to transfer it to film positives so whatever way works for you. You could scan it in and separate the colors in Illustrator or using spot process software.

  • @Ryonet can you draw directly onto the positives using a black permanent marker?

  • pls anyone who can give me some detail about material to use?

  • Material? You mean like the material of the shirt?

  • yes!!! bout the material which is spread on the silkscreen from the start.,.,

  • ... the silk screen material is s

usually nylom mesh. but it comes in different micron sizes so i wouldnt just buy any old mesh. if you go on ryonet's website, they have some screens on there.

  • anyone can give me some Detail Material of the SCREEN or Frame???HELP!!!

  • Can anybody link me to an tutorial of a muti layer/ multi colour screen print process?

  • Does he leave one side of the emulsion on? Or is the mesh stained that colour?

Also does it have to be done in a UV free room? Because I don't have one of them in my house, can't I just draw the curtains?

  • wow this is so complex. everyone i know that does this doesnt work the uv thing

  • Actually this is easy, I did commercial screen making in the mid 70's for Illinois Moulding Co in Chicago and it was a gel coated paper you soaked in potassium dichromate that stained your hands brown then you had to put acetate on top of the gel side, put it on a vacuum table, place the Ortho film positive on top, close the table, vacuum out, expose with a carbon arc lamp. When done you pulled the acetate, put on a screen and rolled, pulled the paper backing, washed then used a blocking varnish

  • A lot of the emulsion type now can be washed out to recover the screen as well, the old days you cut the screen off and restreched cloth on it and made a new one. We printed onto glass sheets so remakes due to cuts was normal. No flash driers - just racks with fans. No printers, either a photographic Ortho film or hand cut gel on acetate. Very time consuming and lots of dangerous waste including lacquer thinner since we printed with lacquers and washed them out end of shift or end of run.

  • what kind of emulsion is that?? is it the same with photographic stencil emulsion-wr and photographic stencil emulsion-hd??

  • Great video.I am looking into screen printing for myself, but what about shading capabilities for depth and detail in artwork? How do I learn how to print with shading in my artwork?

  • because you can profit more if u do it your self

  • america also hates spammers fag

  • Thanks Ryonet! My dad works for a printing shop and he has his own press at our house and im thinking of printing some of my Tall tees and sell them at my school. Have some extra cash, and ill wear em too

  • good times gonna come - aqualung

  • what the name of the song in the beginning?

  • What about curing with a heat press? Good or Bad?

  • it seems like theres no way to properly cure using diy methods. i have not found much help and all the pros just tell me to buy a conveyer which means big buck$.

  • What would you classify as "DIY" methods? A heat gun works, although time consuming, and you can cure using a flash dryer as well which is much less than a conveyor dryer.

  • i agree a flash dryer is the way to go. a conveyor dryer is for ppl that are putting out hundereds of shirts at a time.

  • This was very helpful! My dad and I are going to start a little screen-printing business--already have most of the quipment, the screens, the press, etc. I checked this out to understand the process a little better before we begin. Thanks, this helped a lot!

  • better than most i have seen, i am a screenprinter. you should have mentioned that if the emulsion seems hard to spray out you may have over exsposed your stencil. also you should explain pin holes and saw toothing as well as using tainted emulsion after coating should be kept seperate and could be used as a blockout device in lieu of tape. but tape does help in the cleaning and reclaiming process. mike

  • Thanks for your input Mike. Again, this was just an overview to explain to people how the process works. We're pretty clear on the video that it in no way covers everything you need to know. However, we do offer extensive training options including many more videos here on youtube.

  • Ryonet I just started a workout clothing line and I am going to buy the semi pro package from your web site. Looking forward to learning everything I can about this rewarding business.

  • This wasn't a tutorial, just an overview. I wouldn't want people thinking that all they need to know about screen printing they can get from this video. There's a lot more to it than that.

  • Pretty good tutorial, but I wouldn't recommend people to use spray tac unless your printing a bunch of hoodies. I use this glue similar to white school glue. You coat the pads with a hand squeegee and when they loose their stick, wipe clean with a wet rag. It works much better and spray tac is just gross.

  • i always loved doing manual printing.

i working in a screen printing shop and i loved it.

  • emulsion remover is just a quick and easy way. spraying does take literally hours. i have to do it because im a student wiv no money lol. its prolly recommended to use the remover i was jus putting another option out there.

  • wow...i just tried my first screen and it turned out HORRIBLY!

m gonna try again...but how the hell do i get the emulsion out of the screen??!! it is hardened and will not come out!

  • you need an emulsion remover.

  • if you spraythe screen long enuff with a pressure hose itll come out eventually! takes a while tho! and will take longer if u use your shower or hose. just keep spraying.

  • i saw this video and screen printed at my contemporary media class.. now i know how to screen print and made 80 bucks on my first amature print!

  • To do one color jobs as a starter kit is the way to go if you are a beginner with a minimum budget. You can run small jobs with the starter kit.

  • yep, you can upgrade to two different super cheap exposure ideas for 10 or 40 dollars respectively. There are other exposure unit options also.

  • We have a kit to start at $253. You could get started, learn all about it, sell some shirts and upgrade later.

  • This is way too high budget for like 80% of people that want to learn how to do this. Especially me!

  • I know man. look at all those machines... There are easier, cheaper ways to do this. You just gotta find the way that fits you best.

  • Ryonetquestion#1 are screens reusable?

question#2 in the video the screen looked pink before being used to print the tee shirt. what was that from?

question#3 are the chemicals in this process environmentaly safe? are there any laws in regards to washing excess down into a drain?

  • Whats with all the flashing light effects. I found it really distracting

  • question#1 are screens reusable?

  • #1- yes

#2- a pink emultion is set int the screen to create later the holes

#3- no friendly, yes there are, and getting permits is a pain

  • how do i output my art 25 lines halftone

  • 1- you can get a rip software for your printer

2- try photoshop, there are some good tutorials here in youtube

  • Negative comment on the Video.

Appreciated your esrvices, my question si all about wether you can ship item to Africa.I'm also interested in your videos your really a class apart.

I w'd love to learn more on how to use engravin machines, screen printing machines, and other printing techinics.

    I prreciated.

Hope to hear from you soon as per my request.

    Yours Kkonde Innocent.

  • About time someone put up a video like this.

  • WOW, the production of this video kicks ass.
