  • Logically cutting defense would also involve job cuts.

  • they laugh, they hate, they are insulting, but they are still funnier and better than the BBC!

  • Doest matter who you vote for ,you always end up with a politician

  • If Congress voted in legislation that cuts military spending then they must stick with it and not flip-flop. Plus, even with these cuts we will still have the world's largest military budget. Congress should send a message and be serious about cutting spending, but we can't especially because of the current Republicans in Congress.......

  • Department of Defense spending is $1.2 trillion. There are only 535 members of Congress. Divide it out and there's a $2 billion budget for each member.

Now, all the Defense contractors need to do is donate 1% of that every other year to each member's re-election campaign. That's $20 million per member. They actually only need $2 million to win, so they can put the extra into Congressmen's favorite charities, run by them of course.

That's why they'll never cut "Defense" spending.

  • 11% approval rating.... What is wrong with 11% of us?

  • The enomous US defense spending constitutes threat to peace in the world. When 1 country spends 48% of world's defend budget you are sure they are preparing for war to attack a country. Similar to WWII German and Japanese heavy military spending, prior to war. Nothing personal, just wonder why USA needs to spend that much money on millitary, if the congress can explain that.

  • politics kill people. end of story

  • I am not a conspiracy guy but I just looked at Architect about 911 : watch?v=YW6mJOqRDI4

  • the US could cut defense spending by half and still run the world, there is so much waste its ridiculous...

  • I generally agree with cenk but theres one thing he doesnt think through. If the defense contractors dont get any contacts they are going to have to fire people as well. So the middle class will suffer there. However everybody know that these contractors are way to big anyway and only survivng because of the usas ridicoulus spending

  • @TheKaeseStulle ---

"If the defense contractors dont get any contacts they are going to have to fire people as well."

This is because the U.S never reset its' economy from a wartime economy after the second world war, most other countries did decades ago and restructured so innovative focus was put on other areas than bomb-making and building tanks.

    .

It's a painful process but in the long run much more beneficial, there's only one way to keep demand for bombs up...

  • How bout Congress cut their own pay. Wishful thinking.

  • Wow, the Republicans were right to call him 'Loserman' in 2000

  • watch one of the examples: watch?v=vzRAXuokzUc

  • I imagine the federal pay cuts will not affect elected officials :)

  • Eisenhower's "farewell Address" can be found here in You Tube. There should be a movement to burn it to CD/DVD, and flood the mailboxes on Capital Hill & at the White House them, from as many Americans as possible.

  • That is OFFENSIVE spending!

  • Fuck the feds fire them all!

  • America seems to want more war. Look at the GOP debate. Ron Paul is not the front runner for effectively one reason: he's anti-war. Look at the other side. Obama supporters want his wars to continue as well in the name of spreading democracy and freedom. We who want to end this nonsense and come home seem to be in the minority.

  • Obama's made it clear that he'll veto any attempt to remove the triggered defense cuts.

  • So......what's the point of having triggered cuts if we can just un-trigger them?

  • Congress is a joke

  • @timoback3000

The problem is that there is no idea anymore.

everyone protects their corporate interest at any cost.

  • There are NO CUTS either way just a debate over how much more we will end up spending too much or a little inconsequential more or less than too much that makes no difference. NO CUTS AT ALL EVER!!!

  • @IKiLLNRapeCOMMUNISTS I like your user id, funny. Just make sure you use condoms. Regarding you reply: I agree with you. I highly doubt Obama will cut $400 billion. He is a coward and will fail. Though i am pretty sure he will be proud of himself by cutting SS, Medicare, and Medicaid.

  • Well I saw this coming...

  • If you become an engineer, lawyer or doctor (something that has actual value), your government wouldn't fire you right?

  • @69NAWAR69 Engineeres the most under valued people on the planet.

  • jesus christ, are things actually like this in the USA? For all i know TYT could be prejudiced (but probably not) against the government, but the facts are presented every time. Is your government actually this horrible?

  • @maarc3D you betcha'.

  • Everyone I've ever known who worked for Lieberman says he is an asshole.

  • @bluesboy25000 maybe he is, but objectivelly he's got a point

  • Mind boggling. yup. im 100% China will be the next superpower as soon as 2013. Our media won't tell us that, but I'm pretty certain now.

  • When was the last time the U.S. actually "defended" itself from anyone?

  • @axeinface the attack by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, during WWII. Ever since then, they've started invading other countries

  • The name itself is a joke. It's attack spending.

  • - Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Israel)

  • You cant blame the defense industry for being good at their jobs and wanting to keep their paychecks. Its the gov't fault for allowing this shit to happen. Its not the rich peoples fault for being good at what they do. It could be immoral and borderline criminal, but if its not against the law, then 'they' are doing nothing wrong. There need to be laws that keep money out of politics, but that will never happen.

  • @Hangshai

Do you said "good at their jobs" meaning they are good protecting their pockets?

Army cannot be good because there is no punishment. they dont loose their jobs, no pay cuts....

The cop yesterday shot a guy 10 times for a gesture the guy did after getting shot in the face with a teaser gun. (not place other than person face to shot. if you hit person in the eye?).

The answer was that this is police policy (they shot him another 5 times when he was down!). Yeah, kill wiled animal!

  • @hotjama12 Look what happens to the bankers.

FBI reported the huge violations in the banks, and the bankers got baled out, pocket the our money, and went back to business.

    nice :)

  • He did not just say "Stove Top we're staying" did he?

  • ಠ_ರೃ

  • NATO spends 975 bill out of the 1,3 trill (which is the world military budget). Yes, I'm sure every last dollar is needed

  • The entire future of America is about war, this is the path the owners of this country have taken. Until we end lobbying, the two-party system, election laws, failed foreign policies and the absolute corporate takeover of Washington, nothing will change. Obama is a fraud and coward, the republicans are monsters, the democratic party is so corrupt it could only be fixed by recalling every one of them. We are fucked. We have to have a real revolution, and yes, this would include violence.

  • @TheUSMetalhead I for one would be proud to follow you into battle.

  • I am a

  • @TheUSMetalhead (sorry about my last comment.. accidentally pressed enter) I am a 15 year old and I thought the Occupy Wall Street protest was just something stupid and I think a lot of fellow Americans did as well. Now I realize that it could be the only way to gaining economic equality.

  • @TheUSMetalhead Doing anything less than taking over The Capital, The White House, The Pentagon, The C.I.A., The F.B.I. and all of Washington D.C. with at least a hundred thousand armed men to hold it until the population could get behind that revolution and new vote aferwards. You would really need some of the C.I.A., The F.B.I., The Pentagon, and major city's police forces to join that revolution to make it truly successful. It would make a great movie!

  • @TheUSMetalhead america shuld move towards parlamentar system.

  • @TheUSMetalhead So what happen after we take everyone out? Fresh blood, same system, what's the point? At this moment, I think the problem is that there is no perfect system. So before someone can propose of a better idea, the most that people can do is to live under a system that they hated the least.

  • @TheUSMetalhead all of this is true, but you forgot to include ending religion as well.

  • wow...a TYT video actually about facts and politics not fringe and fake statistics on extremists overdrive equality topics..making up news on gay parents

  • QUIT REPLYING TO genie, and dickcheney, and GOP. Any account with these words in their user name are KNOWN trolls. QUIT FEEDING THE TROLLS.

  • Come on Cenk. There are thousands of working class employed by aerospace. Don't spew half truths with such passion. It reminds me too much of propaganda.

  • @BurkeLCH Thousands over millions?

  • @BurkeLCH Yeah and your republican bosses make 110 million a year, charging the governement 500K for a torpedo that costs $5,000 to make. Fuck the War machine of America it is out of control

  • They aren't even cuts, it's just not an increase.

We spend $800 BILLION a year on defense, more than any other country on earth, and it still isn't enough for these greedy bastards.

  • There should not be any surprise here. Dem,GOP,Conservative, liberal, progressive, independent, progressive, etc...one thing is true for them all. They know better than to do anything but constantly increase defense spending.

if you give blind support to any of the above labels, you are a complete retard and part of the problem.

  • [BIG SIGH]... i always have to adjust my composure before clicking to the next piece of news. this shit pisses me off.

  • Washington needs to burn.

  • While I agree with everything Cenk says and want to cut defense spending, he says it like cutting defense won't cost jobs. He conveniently says that cutting government workforce is cutting the "middle class," but somehow cutting defense won't also cause defense contractors to lay off middle class people?

  • @pgorney Difference is the military contract jobs are useless fluff that does nothing to help the people who pay for it, the American people. While postal office and other Federal jobs at least sort of do something we need and benefit from.

  • Canada is coming

  • Yeah, Boner, we DO really really want to go there. Please God let us "go there".

It's you elite corporatist monsters that don't want to go there.

  • Here's a fact: the US spends more money on the military than healthcare and education combined

  • Yeah US, Canada is comin' for ya. We be climbin' in yo windows and snatchin' up all yo people... =___=

  • @MsRey00 Us Canadians have an elite specialists unit known simply as "The Shadow Beavers". In the dead of the night they strike, height is no obstacle for them they just coat the bottom of their boots with pure maple syrup and push on. "For the Beaver stays in the shadow when the dam is built."

  • @MsRey00 Your not climbing in our windows. People in this country are ass up waiting for you to take us.

  • @MsRey00 and our bacon and hockey equipment of course. lol. i kid

  • @MsRey00 To be honest I'm pro building a giant wall if it will stop Canadian arctic stuff from coming here. I just really hate the cold. XD So yea you can keep it all. ;-)

  • StoveTop! We're stayin!!

  • You want America's demise you don't need no al-qaeda, republicans doing a better job. All Al-Qaeda did was bomb a few buildings and planes but GOP is destroying entire country with its occupants

  • Does the "I" next to Liebermann stand for "Israel"?

  • @eleutheromaniac

    Yes.

The "I" next to Lieberman also stands for the "Internet Kill Switch" that he wants.

I guess the Information Age isn't going so well for the Zionist 5th Column.

  • Commie bastards in the North

  • Just shoot everyone in congress and get it done with. I mean its depressing enough to hear about this **** all day long.

Just shoot the corrupt jarheads there and elect some good officials.

Research the French Revolution. And you might notice how similiar its starting to look like. (back then the top 1% owned over 60% of the wealth, you will be there soon)

  • Don't be so mean to Bob! I'm sure he doesn't want to be wrong all the time either!

  • @DaytonaRoadster fuck you redneck

  • How long until invasion of iran?

  • @kshhashim Not long. Less than a year.

  • @kshhashim Not long before the US economy fails

  • @kshhashim I say after the olympics right in time for the economic collapse somewhere in sep to dec.

  • 42% obviously isn't enough, because the foreign policy and all that crap the US forces on other countries sucks big time. You need over 50%, if the leaders in the rest of the world ever smarten up..

  • @billyrichardson2

If you see it as a problem, make a example of yourself and slit yout throat.

  • @poeperdhe I love myself way too much for that...consider this troll attempt a fail.....faggot

  • this is one fucked up country........its SUCKS

  • @underbjorn

    WARNING!! idiot on the loose!

Logic is this, if American military spending is such a problem for American economy what is causing the current economic crisis in Europe which is far worse than what America is going through?

oh wait, I know, it is stupid brains engaging in Marxist/socialist/ far left ideologies, affectionately referred to as "Nanny State" politics!

  • @underbjorn

the only Nanny state I like to mention is Sweden, where I hear you're debating a proposed "Universal Ass Wiping Service" (UAWS) run at taxpayer expense. The pro-UAWS side is running on a campaign slogan, "free enterprise produces lots of dirty assholes, socialism keeps them clean"

  • @genie0390 very good......

  • @genie0390 - I thought I told your sorry lying ass to get the fuck off our internets. Why are you still here you fucking retarded liar? Get the fuck off! I mean it! The internet is not for small-minded, willfully ignorant LIARS such as yourself. Get the fuck off our internet you fucking retard!

  • @LeksServices

who the fuck you think you are?,..anyways?

I have express permission from that wonderful progressive Al Gore who invented the Internet and is now going to lower the temperature on mother earth!,..so there!

btw, internet is not plural, you dumbnuts pig fucker

  • @LeksServices. I'll give you some advice about genie0390 and that is not to post to him. It isn't worth it. All he does is come on here to post lies, racism, inults, arrogance, and fear mongering because he can't debate like an adult or backup what he says with facts. But if you still want o post to genie don't stoop to his level and use insults and the other stuff he uses. Use truth, logic and maturity because he hates it when you do that.

  • "Congress Fights" omg WAT?!

  • 3/4 of a TRILLION dollars for defense - while america falls to peices

  • Either place you cut you will be cutting jobs. It's not just planes in submarines in the military, it is people.

  • @hmoder70 Studies have shown that the same amount of money spent on literally ANYTHING ELSE other than defense creates more jobs. Put the money in education instead? More jobs. Put the money in renewable resources? More jobs.

Defence spending wastes more than anything else. The only ones who really profit from defence spending is the military industrial complex.

  • @LordOrlock

"The only ones who really profit from defence spending is the military industrial complex."

and soldiers too who get paid and many get great training! The MIC is not of another planet, they buy tons of stuff and services that spins off millions of high paying jobs for Americans who also benefit from all those fabulous technological innovations without which many Americans would be hamburger flippers and making up bed sheets for the hospitality industry.

  • If the defense cuts are dropped.. tell me.. what's the difference between that and just giving Republicans everything they wanted in the first place? It's just massive domestic austerity.

  • As soon as that figure drops below 40%, the Canadians are getting ready to charge.

  • And,

you may have forgotten Cenk, that Joe Lieberman, (in addition to all of the things you stated), was your boss's, (that would be the multi-millionaire 1% Al Gore), choice for V.P.

  • Its really funny actually, the very corruption that benefits these robber barons and slimeball politicians in the short term will utterly destroy them in the long run. WHEN, not IF the US political system collapses, the people will hold these over privileged turkeys down for a good old fashioned ass raping from then until the end of time. HA HA HA were comin' for you all

  • 2nd US Civil War, coming Dec. 21st, 2012

  • There's a difference between defense spending and military spending

  • Vampires, starving for money. Mooore!

  • If they cut "Defense" then they cant have their police state to enforce the NDAA and Enemy Expatriation Act. DERP

  • When only 11% of Americans support their leaders, it's no longer by the people, for the people. America is a corporateocracy with a staged democracy. And 99% of it's problems come from lobbyists. when you allow lobbying, you hand your government over to lobbyists. Who do you think someone works for and obeys; the people who pay them, or the people who don't? Their needs to be a nationwide strike that won't end until lobbying is outlawed. It's the only hope left.

  • what would america do if it can't kill lots of sand niggers? it's their whole identity now!!. will they have to go to sand-nigger-killers anonymous??? or maybe they can save money by throwing more puppies off cliffs. that's pretty cheap

  • Will there be a case about the idiocy of combating SOPA when the government doesnt need it to do whatever they want?

  • lol i'm pretty sure that if the US dropped its portion of world defense spending to 40%, Canadian mounties still wouldn't be able to cross the border to take over

  • @joesiracusa1989 We could cut it to 25% of what it is and the Mounties still wouldnt stand a chance.

  • @joesiracusa1989 you could drop it to 0, and Canada still wouldn't invade you. Mexico, on the other hand, would probably take some payback. So keep enough to keep Mexico honest (say 5-15%)

  • @genghisdon1 Even if Mexico wanted to, Mexico doesnt even have enough military power to COLLECT MEXICAN TAXES. When you can only collect less than half of your citizens taxes, you are no threat to other countries. If anything it would be: Keep 10% to make sure Drug Cartels dont move into Texas en masse.

  • @genghisdon1 btw, im canadian

  • The congress is completely unlawful. I thought organized prostitution was illegal in some states yet the representatives are clearly selling themselves in the broad day light. A bunch of whores...

  • I'm so damn fucking grateful that I don't live in the USA!!

  • damnit bob you are always wrong.. shut yo mouth!

  • More political bs maybe more should be shoot

  • This is the reason Why Ron Paul's stance of stop the wars fails. Stopping wars doesn't mean less spending on the military.. It is a difficult concept, but the proof is in the pudding

  • @robinvan1983 Congress doesn't award contracts, that is part of the Executive Branch's powers. Congress can appropriate money, and Dr. Paul will refuse to spend it on unnecessary things. At the end of the year, that appropriated money will just roll right back into the bank.

  • @chrlpolk Congress doesn't need to award contracts. Have you need listened to the clip? This is about budgeting military spending. that does Congress. As you can see, very difficult to change, specially when it is a super majority.

  • @robinvan1983 Congress doesn't actually spend the money; the Executive Branch does. (Thus, the "execute" in the title of the branch.) Congress appropriates the money in the budget, but it is the Executive Branch that decides how the money is spent.

  • @chrlpolk Yes, How it is spent in the military budget... So that means the money will be spent one way or another. The Executive branch can't stop the spending of the budget once it is allocated.

  • @robinvan1983 I don't think you're understanding; the Congress allocates the money into "defense". Once there, it is up to the Executive Branch to determine how that money is spent.

The Congress does not decide on things like the purchasing of weapons, private contractors, etc. All Congress does is allocates funds, and the President decides how to spend it - or, not to spend it. Most Presidents, though, will spend whatever Congress gives them.

  • @chrlpolk That is even worse. because that means that for 4 years... money is allocated to military though it isn't used while other government budgets who need money don't get it while there are the funds for it... Hell even if a president would do such a thing... Congress would notice and make a media circus from it... either way... very damaging for the president

  • @robinvan1983 That's how government works; money is allocated, and what isn't spent is put back into the funds the next year, as if it were collected tax money. It doesn't happen every 4 years, it happens every year.

Now, they can re-allocate, which is what this video is talking about. The cuts will happen. BUT, they will reduce the Federal Government workforce. The money saved by reducing the workforce will then be re-allocated into defense. It's an accounting loophole.

  • @chrlpolk have you even read the United States Department of Defense fiscal year of 2010?

Operations and maintenance = $283.3 billion, Military Personnel = $154.2 billion, Procurement =$140.1 billion, Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation = $79.1 billion, Military Construction = $23.9 billion, Family Housing = $3.1 billion

Even if the first one is slashed in half, you still have about 500 billion being spent. and that isn't even counting stuff like Homeland security.

  • @robinvan1983 Not arguing that - I'm a Paul supporter, so I argue that we spend too much! I'm just pointing out that the spending decisions on defense are made by the Executive Branch, not Congress.

  • @chrlpolk well that is funny... cause Ron Paul never stated reducing spending... only stopping wars... Those are 2 different things

  • Comment removed

  • @chrlpolk yes because you don't need housing for current overseas bases that isn't in the wars.. you know... like in germany etc etc. The construction budget is for internal constrution like upgrading military baes and overseas. you can find these reports online

  • @robinvan1983 Ron Paul wants to bring all the troops home from around the world and shut down many of our bases. That is central to his foreign policy platform. I'm not sure why you think he wants to end wars but continue the overseas spending, but he has been very vocal about spending here in the US instead of overseas.
