I suppose the premise is that the storm disturbed a big nest of snakes somewhere upstream and then the current happened to carry them downstream, en masse, right at that particular moment. In the next part, we see that even Gus, Call and Deets -- the most experienced men -- were shocked and surprised by the event. I agree that it's a bit of a stretch that something that coincidental would take place but then such is life.

@suddenlyitsobvious True, but it would be a pretty boring story if they got to Montana, Call turns to Gus and says "Wow, that went remarkably well! Noone died at all!"
cant figure it, water wasnt nothing, horse woulda cross it just fine. i find it lame this man had to die like that. trying to understand, but it dont pan out. i guess its just part of the script.
@glynamus i see your point, but if you remember the scared look on the horse's face after seeing the snakes, chances are the horse would have got bitten at least once. the snakes would've picked up on his fear and felt threatened when he made all that noise.
@glynamus Horses are REALLY REALLY scared of snakes, and the water was all like crazy up after they past, so the water snakes came out and scared Sean's horse...He got bit as you can see...
I initially got this film because I heard about the scene with the water moccasins & was curious about it. I'm glad I found the movie, but that scene creeps me out to no end.
@IsSonoUomo@markmeetsworld@lelia72@nischealy Who was one of the guys that really fell off their horse into the river on a stormy couldy rainy day, as what did it really mean that he fell off his horse, as why did the horse probably throw him is the real tough question as what does it mean again for 2:52 how did the storm the night before push the snakes out of hiding and all the cattle crossing had kept them at bay?
@IsSonoUomo@markmeetsworld@lelia72@nischealy Was that really true as if at 2:52 how did the storm the night before push the snakes out of hiding and all the cattle crossing had kept them at bay, what did that mean, as if how were they kept at bay when all the cattle were crossing and how did the cattle not get bit?

Not very likely for such a bunch of water mocassins being there right after an entire herd of cattle just crossed the river...
