  • I have a Chrysler crossfire. It uses the same Mercedes system. I ordered a new tumbler and maintenance key from the dealer (i didn't see your video until after ordering). I forgot to insert the blk cap between the key & tumbler BEFORE reinstalling the tumbler back into the lock assembly. Even though the blk cap is not on, I cannot get the tumbler back out. The key will not turn because the blk cap is not on the locking assembly. How do I get the tumbler out?

  • I have ordered the switch, but I can't get mine to turn on my 91 300D 2.5. What should I do?

  • INTERESTING

  • thanks for this video.....

Couldn't start my 240d. I knew it was a "key problem". I didn't know how to take it out..... I took it out (used a "biggish" needle) and found that it is broken inside. Going to order a new one.

    Problem solved

    Thanks mate

  • Stumbled upon this video and my key isn't even broken. Interesting stuff though, I love how easy things were to fix back then. I have a semi-new SLK and any little light comes on and I have to take it to a special Mechanic and all that. On my 300D however, I was able to fix a vacuum leak with a freaking thorn from a tree xD

  • what a wonderful steps

a mother fucker ruin change the key barrel and damage it

the light alarm and works when i turn on the lights

  • da erzählst du aber was ganz neues!

  • Badda bing! lol!

  • is that the Dead Kennedys? it is! nice.

  • @solstingr WOW! It's awesome that you know that!

  • fixed now. thanks for what you did show. (mental note.)

  • @solstingr hi. How did you manage to fix ? My key is broken with a part stuck in the hole, and it's not possible to to turn the to ACC or start. But for some reason I can turn the outer part of the tumbler so I manage to slide in a pin in the small hole. But it's not possible to screw off the black part and release the tumbler...

  • @Ostreom i took it to the mercedes dealership. the cylinder was seized. all better now. just thought i might be able to do it myself. seems the German trained technicians are better than me. lol. cheers!

  • @solstingr ok thank you. It seems that I have to do the same. I have drilled out more or less the whole cylinder, but the remainong part of cylinder is still stuck. But now I can start the engine with a screwdriver and drive the car to the garage :)

  • @Ostreom yeah. i don't know how they got just the cylinder out, but they did (so i didn't have to replace the whole assembly).

i think the purpose of this video is ONLY if your key is broken and the cylinder still turns.

seems like you should be able to drill the whole thing out, and just put a new one yourself though.

  • this would be super helpful, but my problem is : the ignition won't go to ACC. the steering wheel is locked and so is the ignition. (they seem to be connected somehow, as when i move the st. wheel the ignition body also moves slightly.) i almost broke my only key, but was able to get copies, still no luck.

  • @solstingr Your steeling wheel lock seized.

  • @solstingr Try rocking the car while turning the key and moving the steering wheel...

  • HOLY SHIT flat head driver and that car is mine

  • Now i know how to steal a Mercedes
