  • Simply Awesome!!!!

  • I tried playing the banjo when I was younger. Never could get the hang of it. These guys make it look easy - it's not.

  • this show turned me on to banjo years ago

  • FAN-TAS-TIC! A great talent you have! Sounds just like a hillbilly country! :D And of course I love the song.

  • amazing

  • @theologydog 1939 Gibson RB-75 Gold-plated Mastertone previously owned by Mack Crow, who was an early influence to Earl Scruggs.

  • @vcp430 Yes SIR you hit the nail on the head!

  • @bigmrclean Thank you! I do appreciate it!

  • Let's not forget Bobby Thompson when we hear this tune.

  • @TheZenBanjoist

Bobby was one of the lest appreciated pickers ever. He didn't care about fame, he was a great studio player who just wanted paid.

  • @MerlynSchutterle

Yes, you're right...He was a wonderful person as well as a banjo player. I miss him to this day.

  • The banjo is year 1939

  • This is so fucking cool. i want to see the whole thing AND the finished product.

  • this is cool i wanna learn this song on Banjo.

  • The banjo Jim is playing in this video is a 1939 Gibson RB-75 w/gold plated flange. He always says it's his favorite banjo to play because he likes the old sound of that Gibson. The banjo was ordered by a feller by the name of Mack Crow about 1939, and Mack Crow was an early influence to Earl Scruggs. Source: Gibson Mastertones of the '30's and '40's by Jim Mills

  • Thanks so much! I'm contemplating buying a TB3 conversion... We'll see.

  • If you are thinking about buying a conversion banjo, talk to Jim! He is the best authority on these old banjos and will steer you to the right axe. He has more knowledge about this stuff than you might guess and will find one for you with the tone you desire.

  • Just got that book for my uncle for christmas

  • what banjo is this, it sounds AWESOME!

  • I don't know exactly what year, but I do know it is a pre-WWII Gibson.

  • @TNJed4 ...its the goldplated maccrow 1937 RB75

  • I'm looking foward to the new jim Cd. He's one of my favorite all time players. (Other than of course earl#1 jd#2) Jim is pure perfection. Thank you Jim for making us another great Cd. Your awesome.

  • sound like he wants to do big spike hammer lol

  • Jimmy is the most solid banjo player that My ears have ever heard. He might be a simple man, but when he hits those strings, something happens. . .

  • No problem, teakbridge101! Be sure to check out the finished product when the new TN Jed record, Barn Burner, comes out late October. Featuring Jim Mills on 4 tracks, as well as members of Steep Canyon Rangers, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, and Town Mountain among many others. Jim was just trying to remember the chord progression here...

  • I can't wait for it TN!!

  • Hey Jimmy! I have been waiting to see what you looked like in the studio man, and I am floored! This is soooooo cool!!! Thanks TNJed4 for posting this video!!!
