At the very least food waste should be composted! If they don't want to go to the effort of sorting good from bad and donating it, they could at least preserve the value of the nutrients and create something that helps in the production of nutritious food.
San Francisco recently started a food waste recycling program and I hope it catches on! Restaurants and grocery stores should be required to dispose of food waste in a mindful manner!

Used to do this in the UK, until some places locked the bins. Hope to get back into the bins soon!

Companies don't recycle the wasted food. Restaurants and stores throw away good food. They should donate them to poor countries or poor people.
