Hi i have a vizio vf550xvt1a 55" my son threw the wii paddle at the screen ..it did not crack the screen. when u turn the tv on it appears to be cracked with black ink flowing through it along with lines everywhere, when i press on it the lines go away except where it was hit with the wii. my question is ... Is there a lcd behind the glass that can be replaced ?? when i unplug the t-con board there is no difference..plz help
@Chuckjs21 Your display is cracked and it's generally not worth the cost to replace it. The LCD portion of the display has a thin layer of plastic glued on the front so this is why the crack isn't obvious until you turn it on.
Hi Dave, I have a Sharp lcd Lc-26sB24u. It works fine for a day or hour or week, then goes white, but still plays sound fine. Some times pic flicks normal to white back and forth till all white, What would you suggest I check? I work on Video Arcade monitors, but this a new beast to me. Thanks Jay
Good Day Dave... amazing vids, helped me a lot of times I have an AKAI LCT26Z4AD... the problem is when the LCD TV is cold, it shows no picture but sound is on... after 20minutes or so it gradually turns back from flickering to good video... but lately the video doesn't turn on anymore
I am a PC repair guy... replaced 2 bulged caps, but didn't work
what's your advice?... there's no service center for AKAI in our place...
Do u have any pics of cracks on a Samsung Tv, I have a tv with a crack, samsung keeps asking me to send in new pics, the tv is less than 2 months old, I think they're trying to not repair or replace the tv, so they're giving me the run around. Can u please help me find a suitable pic that they will take n repair or replace me tv? Thanks tami.
Sorry but I don't have any pictures or cracked screens other than what I show on my video of common display problems. What I don't understand is why don't you send them a picture of your TV, No camera?
dav are the same guy on 11 meter ssb travis kf7lvp or 395?anway ecellent info in this vid.i have a 20 inch poloroid that goes black after start up.think it is the power supply caps?
I'm not entirely sure what's causing your symptom. I would guess it to be one of three likely possibilities. T-con board, driver board. or bad display. I'm about to produce a video which talks about symptoms and causes in the hope that others will leave comments as to what they did to repair certain problems.
we'll it's how you use your lcd tv. even if it's a machine it also gets tired so it needs to rest. minimize watching for long hours, turn it off to rest and clean it regularly!!! lower down your baclight usage so the ccfl lamp inside will last longer for years!!!!
Good tip, Dave. Thanks for sharing. These type of connection problems have been a major issue with LCD products starting with DMMs and radio displays going back to early years of LCD. I have always found putting a rubber spacer in the back to put more pressure to the connector-display but have never tried it on a larger scale such as LCD TV. Try to strip off the insulation of a phone cord long enough for the length you need and be careful not to apply too much pressure (or else crack the LCD).
What I do know is that when these parts are assembled the machine actually puts particulates of solder and flux on the board and blows heat at them; this causes all the solder to melt and only attach to the clean copper surfaces and wires. You might try using a hot air solder gun, remove the solder and heat new solder onto the contacts after cleaning the contacts of course. The solder will bubble up on the attachable surfaces and amazingly it never jumps from one contact to the other.
It is solder; it is actually called solder paste. When the circuit PCB is printed they silkscreen the solder paste on all the contact points of the board. The screen is placed against the contact points of the board then the board passes by a heat wave around 250deg which will not destroy most chips completing the soldered connection, the screen is shielded from this process. This is why it looks like glue under the scope; the bond is made from the bottom of the wire.
@mythril4 After watching several videos on solder paste I'm not sure your correct. The contacts I examined under my microscope showed no signs of ever having been soldered. On one surface they solid gold in color and the mating surface appeared to be coated with carbon which looked very much like the electrodes on the contact points of a remote control.
It could be one of those contact strips they use in devices like multimeters to make the screen contact the board with no soldered joints. It sounds to me though like the wires are attached firmly so I doubt it is one of those strips. If they used a glue it would have to be a high bond and high conductive glue otherwise it obviously would not work.
@GrantsPassTVRepairs I've Repaired a 50" Pasma with a thick vertical line which was caused by looses glue connectors between the buffer board.Shamsung again.Would you like me to make a Video.I used A Glue Gun & Heatsink Pad.
I have some horizontal flickering lines on my 42LG60 (2 years old), exactly like in the next video:
watch?v=2MR5janOFLg
It's not my video but I have exactly the same problem.
What do you think? It's a faulty panel ?
It happens only first 10-15 minutes during warm up period when I turn on the TV. It goes away after that and works fine until I turn it off for an extended period.
I recently tried to repair an LCD display using hot air and pressure on the screen connector only to make it worse. Perhaps in some cases it works but I wasn't so lucky.
@GrantsPassTVRepairs Yeah.Doesn't work all the time.I've done that as well when i overdid it.Another i've used in the past on a samsung 22inch LCDTV was a hot glue gun and pressed it againt the frame while its hot or very thin wire on the buffer board.Sometime the buffer boards on either side connection point loosens up.Route it to a solder point.Let me know how u get on.Some Good Tips here
I've never tried it with an lcd tv but on a gameboy I have run a hot soldering iron over the ribbon cable where it connects to the board and that fixed the screen. Thanks for another great video.

The rubber penetration trick works almost every time. I highly recommend Magnums since they cover more surface area.

minimize watching for long hours, let it rest before watching again, even if it's a machine made by man it also gets tired when on for long hours.

@mythril4 you can buy conductive glue containing silver,i had car radio bad display and with that glue i have recovered 90% of connections.
