They are different characters (:

You can often tell the difference in drawings using physical features.

Sapphire wears blue and has "fangs"

Ruby has a scar on his head, under his hat.

May wears red/green depending on game.

I would love to see pokemon special anime really I think that the manga is by far more interesting and the anime since pokemon diamond and pearl has lost so much it would be a lot better to just take the manga and do a anime from it such awesome characters and stories
