all she said is true, but hello why she think it is like that, because education (not like usa) should be for everybody and not only for the rich...all this are coming outs of american politics...
I think one reason why people are not rushing to Germany is because their Bachelor degrees are normally only taught in German. So unless you are comfortable with the language, you will probably have a hard time....
And for some input on what the guy is saying about housing: I pay 250 a month for 26 square meters in a nice apartment with a kitchen and a bathroom. Students are entitled to extreme discounts when living "on campus"
If you are german, you don't have to pay for health insurance until you're 25.Everyone gets like 200€ until they are 25 from the state if they are still studying, which is also nice since you can pay like more than half the rent with that money. If you're poor, you'll get a credit.Only have to pay back half of it,can start paying it back upto 5 years after you finish university. If you are/get unemployed or pregnant, you have to pay back nothing. From a financial aspect, it can't get much better.
@8sakuraleaf9 And btw...rent in Germany even in the nice places isn't that high. Even if you want to go to cities like Berlin or Munich...there are hostels or the possibilty to share an appartment.
Kind of sad though that it is so diffrent in America.
what you study in doesn't matter, businesses look really just at what college you went to. Because i've seen so many people study in field and go into a job never related to it. thou advance stuff does require a study int he field like medicine or engineering
University is cheap in Germany because not everyone goes. You get your basic education, and then you're able to get a decent job. In contrast, the Jews/Zionists have turned American college education into a big business. Everyone, including the unqualified, can attend thanks to a high interest loan.
When I studied in Germany I was there for 4 months and my whole group got insurance through the school for about $100 for the whole time. It was the best time I have ever had at college.
I disagree with many things said in this videos. One of the things, is the feeling that I am getting from them trying to say that education in the US is good, if anything it is shit. For the amount of money that we have to pay, it should be the best of the world. There is nothing that US is the best at. Not science, technology, art or medicine. And I know for fact that higher education in others countries is either FREE or incredibly cheap. Even South American countries.
@TheCaptainjuicy I'd rather go to Switzerland, where their economy is actually more stable. They're not part of the EU, either, so that probably explains why they're not doing bad at all.

I am finishing my Masters degree now in Berlin. I pay about 350 Euros per semester for school, about 75% of which pays for the public transportation ticket for the semester. That means the actual university fees are less than 100 Euros. Living costs, particularly in Berlin, are extremely cheap, with rent being available for around 300 Euros in addition to very cheap prices for food at supermarkets.
That settles it, I'm definately getting my Masters in Germany (which I had wanted to do anyway - Linguistics, gotta go to the school Humbolt founded).
Btw, Engineers are in great demand in Germany, particularly those wanting to work with green energy and ideas.
@TheLunachick Well, it doesn't cost a lot to go to the world 18th university in Montreal, McGill university ! It cost me about 3.5K per years in tuition fees per years in Quebec.
@tabarnakdostidcalis Canada is impossible to get into. You have to have something they want. My teacher said there are more people in California than Canada
lol this reminds me of my ex-gf she received her masters in history from an ivy league university here in the US. How she's going to pay that off I have no idea.
Well, Its great for you that you take advantage of the European system. Not so good for the Rich Germans
If you make 300,000 a year in Germany you pay 50% in taxes! and some of that is spent paying for people NOT EVEN IN YOUR COUNTRY! It must be horrible to be upper middle class in Europe
@RoGDeantoir I never said Europe was barbaric. It's not THAT far behind. I like paying for PROPER healthcare. After finding out what a joke German healthcare was, I would gladly pay for good healthcare. Crime isn't a problem for anyone not involved in it and in a good area, and obesity doesn't affect me if I eat a healthy diet. The same can be said for everything else you mentioned. All I really need to care about is how the country treats me, and it beats any European country I've been to
@RoGDeantoir That's one aspect of thousands and thousands of reasons to see the US as ahead of any other country. Not to mention specific and unimportant.
I wanted to go to an English college and I got in...Why? Because I would pay around 60k while the English people only paid 14k. My ex boyfriend-who's English- said I would no doubt get in because I'm from America.
I studied at a German university for 2 years and I have to say I disagree with a lot of this. I went to a private college in Michigan and paid an arm and a leg and while our tuition rates definitely need to go down, you absolutely get a better quality education in the U.S. You'd be amazed at how many people were in my classes in Germany that didn't care about the material at all, partly because they don't pay much for school and because they don't have a cumulative GPA system. GO TO SCHOOL HERE.
@ccrider0217 which uni did u go i went to Freie Universität Berlin and i thought it was brilliant the lecturers were great the student were awesome ;]
@sechelf I went to the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and while some of my classes were good, with professors who knew their stuff, there were so many students that I had in classes because they were required to take them (foreign languages, etc.) that only cared about passing and didn't put any effort into their work. I also hated being "taught" by other students via their Referate and not by the actual professors. I'm glad you enjoyed it in Berlin, though!
@KennyEverything Neither could I, I took out loans. And if one's finances are such that one can't qualify for a loan, how is that person going to prove to a foreign government that they have sound financial support for the duration of their stay (something I had through my American college)? And what are the odds that someone who didn't go to college--unless they are accepted to an English-speaking university abroad--will have the language skills to take classes in German, French, Chinese, etc.?
Most of you Americans should realise that you'd fucking live it in Europe, especially Germany and in the UK, France etc. I from personal experience have talked to Americans at my university and they love it here. And the USA needs to fix up big time, but with a government in place that doesn't care if it screws its own people, tough.
I know a lot of people who studied European Studies and all went on to well paid jobs. The key to success are internships, when it comes to those studies. One has to have a plan what to do with it, not a well planned one, a rough idea is enough and then try to absolve internships at the institutions, which are relevant for your studies. In the end internships often count more than you actual studies, you simply lean more.
4:20 oh dear god how wrong could you posibily be. it's not low tuiton here in denmark. it's NON EXISTENT. for foreigners aswell as danes. you can take a free education in denmark, no matter where you're from. the only thing the danish government demands in return is that if you leave right after graduating without working in denmark first. you have to pay a fee of about 25000 dollars. which is still cheap. and keep in mind thats just if you don't choose to work here afterwards
@xbertocoaylax it have lasted for pretty long all over europe. free education means that we get a lot more qualified workers than america, and that's one of the reasons america is falling on their ass much harden than europe is at the moment.
Actually it's not that much of an exception because European countries spent a Sh*t load of money on making all kinds of education accessible for everyone.
Which is obviously one of the best things you can do with your money! As opposed to waging wars against people with imaginary weapons of mass destruction for example...
Thanks for the flowers, folks, but as a German, I sort of feel the need to keep it real. The question of how the system can be financed isn't solved at all and the studying conditions are often very low-standard.
For example: overcrowded lectures, missing out classes due to too many participants, problems in taking final exams because of too many participants, too little student counseling by professors due to their insufficient number etc. etc.
shhhhhhhh I live in Germany and i teach at 2 Universities and now that the UK has trebled its tuition there will be a flood of student immigrants to Germany
Ana's right about non danish citizrns having to pay to take an education here, unless they live in one of the countries we have an exchange agreement with. What she got wrong: Very few (Basically only a few private and strickly after hours cooprate) educations have a fee for danes. Basically everything, including the longest uni degrees, are free. We get paid to take an education, and health care is paid for via taxes.
America is SO far behind the civilized countries out there.
@brainiac554 Nah. Americans are getting poor. Even if you split the top 1%'s monies on all of the Americans they'd still only earn half of what the middle class does in the rich countries of Europe. Tell me, what's so developed in America? It's corruption? lol
There are indeed programs taught in English in some universities, that's right. But still..if you wanna study in Germany and can not speak German, you'll get lost forever. It's Germany not US ;)
Hey guys it may be right that in Europe and especially Germany lots of University fees are low or nearly non existent. But keep in mind that in Germany the entire education system is financed by the state and so is the health care system. And you guys may not know it and by god I'm not judging you because the German system is hard to get a hang of, but this will sooner or later backfire!
@BrigadierJamesWolfe bare in mind that there are only 2 of 16 states in Germany left with tuition! ;)
Hello! My name is Kate and I sent this video. Actually, I don't study history and Anna got it totally wrong. I study political science in the EU and with this job, I can work at an NGO in Europe. The chances I think to get a job with my degree are higher in Europe than in the USA.
@crazykate4u Thank you for sharing your story, Anna should of payed close attention to what was said in your video. With you will and determination i know you are going to go far!
@Sneezlebob What the hell do you know about me? You are just a loser who thinks low about himself and talks down to people to make himself feel better.
@crazykate4u You got a really sweet deal. Congrats! This isn't the first time I've heard of Americans going overseas to get a master's degree. Ana was right: This country is embarassing.
@Gr4yW0rld I disagree. I lived in some areas of Europe before moving to the US. You get more of an obedience and order system in Europe than you do in the US.
@Gr4yW0rld Ask London. They don't protest, they riot. More on the point that's not obedience, that's controlling disorder. The same would happen in any good country.
@brainiac554 We shoot tear gas canisters in the face of peaceful protestors and then throw a flash granade into a crowd of people trying to help him. We punch protestors after they get maced and walk away. we litter the street with propaganda and then call the protestors the lying communists.
Hurry for America land of the shut up and get back to work
@Gr4yW0rld How is that a god complex? You seem to have a serious vendetta against America. I would try actually living here first. THEN form an opinion. Our police don't represent our country. The point is the protesters were FREE to protest. Whether or not the police reacted well or not is irrelevant to the freedom we hold just. The point is we aren't forced to "shut up and get back to work" it allows us the choice. It allows us the freedom to view someone as "lying communists" if we so choose.
@brainiac554 I do live in America. I say god complex as in it thinks its awesome and perfect and number one in everything, despite being number one in very little. Freedom is universal, everyone has free will and they can do whatever they want, the issues is what do they get punished for doing. Sure we are free to protest until we are told to or the police will make us leave.
If its a choice between shutting up or going to jail, then its no more of a choice then anywhere else in the world
@Gr4yW0rld I know that the police are irrationally violent towards protesters who pose a possible threat, but that doesn't change the fact that we are legally allowed to protest even if police illegally combat us. That's the point I'm making. We are still a free country when compared to most others.
@Gr4yW0rld The point is to stand up for your rights. If someone tells you that you can't do something even though you have the right to, you stand up for yourself and your country. Regardless of the punishment.
@brainiac554 We were talking about freedom, not rights. In north korea, they have the right to speak out agains kim jon eil, but they have no freedom to. Rights are inalienable intrinsic human assets, freedom is political.
@Gr4yW0rld Small point: wouldn't the right also necessitate a duty to respect that right? If you can't exercise the right without it being infringed upon, then it seems like you don't actually have that right.
@Snakekilla12 "Bachelor and Master programmes tuition fees for non EU- students usually are higher than for EU members. Mostly a study year can cost between 14,000 euro - 22,000 euro ( inclusive all living expenses.) = (25,000-30,000 dollars)
Students from outside the European Union do not qualify for the national grants from the Dutch authorities. However, the Dutch Ministry of Education offers scholarships under the terms of various cultural agreements and other agreements of co-operation."
@cazattack23 That's not the case, really. Look at the fee: Cambridge cost 22000 dollars a years, Harvard cost 38000 dollars a year. Now, would you think there is a lot of unemployment in the masters from Cambridge in Harvard? 95.2% of student from cambridge are employment - Harvard is so near that there is no significant difference (95.3% in the number I have).
@cazattack23 this is so not true! if you knew anything about the world outside the US, you'd know that education elswhere, especially countries like Germany, UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland etc. is MUCH higher, FAR better and worldwide acknowledged.
In contrast, American education is often laughed upon. besides a very basic education you don't get much in college! some of the stuff is learned in the last years of german high-schools.
Jayar, you're a smart guy (usually), but that comment was en epic fail. Germany is one of the top nations in engineering, and quite a few Americans come over here for that.
Ana, Jayar, I love you guys, but what's even more embarrassing than the inequalities of our country is how sometimes you guys assume a lot about almost anything, from other countries policies to what you can do with a degree. (Didn't she say she was studying european politics, not strictly history?)
So she studies european history, gets her qualifications to become a proffesor to teach it to the next idiot to choose this stupid subject, who will continue this pointless cycle. Dont get me wrong history is important to know but not important enough to study 3 or 4 years and rack up student bills to get a job which doesnt really contribute too much to society. But hey if its for self fulfillment then go for it, but dont expect too much to come from it.
She stays in Europe, gets her PhD in European history from a European university, comes back to the US, becomes a professor here, her credentials should get her 100k a year. That's not including income from books sold and grants obtained. Ana seems to think that professors don't make much.
@crazykate4u Same principle applies. Get your PhD in EU Studies in the EU, return to the US (if you feel like it), and get a huge salary from a top tier university because of your credentials. That's true even in the lesser paid fields - a prof. of Caribbean lit. from the University of Puerto Rico can get up to 150k starting, while someone with similar credentials from Rutgers will start at about half.
The TYT staff are usually pretty cosmopolitian, but this just shows how little Americans know about other countries. In most of Europe education is free. For international students it depends on the country and the degree. If one has a visa that allows one to live in Europe, even students , one gets health care.
Fortunately in Argentina the best university is also public, and free to all, regardless of nationality. I often see Europeans or Americans, they come down here because the education in the UBA is great, and their wallets love it.
Thanks TYT for bringing that story. I stayed in the U.S. for one High School year. There is indeed much Germany can learn from the U.S.. Though at the same time there is lots the U.S. could take over from here. I wish for BOTH to happen. Btw all (kind-spirited) Americans: Feel invited to Germany.
Jayar and Ana were off on this one. First of all she said she has a political science degree. So where the fuck did they get European history from? This girl is going to have a banging career. Just because Jayar and Ana do not know what you can do with a degree doesn't mean there aren't possibilities. Jayar also doesn't realize engineering in Germany is THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!
European Studies MA comes in handy. You can work with Think tanks, NGOs, International organizations like the EU commission board etc etc. Ana doesn't know what you do with it doesn't mean you can't make a decent living from it.
And why does she think being a professor is a bad career choice from a pragmatic viewpoint? Yeah, the salary is not going to make you billions but it can allow you to live quite comfortably.
In the US I would say that not many professors are getting hired, and they're doing adjunct work. It sucks being a professor in the US. But if she is in Europe or Asia being a professor can give you a comfortable lifestyle indeed. Also One of my profs is moving to University of Macau. XD SOooooo he's pretty excited and even took a pay raise. Its crazy to think this but the US is losing its talented.
You're right...that's why I said can. It is sad to see very intelligent and skilled people having to search every nook and cranny for a niche. Really sad to see Macau now ahead of the USA.
hey man I am doing it too. mainly because I am tired of having to hear rednecks and idiots tell me here that I should have studied engineering. despite the quality of such degrees decreasing here. They think its all easy. I dunno I'm just too frustrated right now. Because I am a recent graduate, and was forced back to the US after the tsunami in Japan. Soooo I am here, jobless. qualified, and ppl assume I'm worthless. Hell yea I'm going back abroad for work/study
I worked in Japan for awhile; it broke my heart to see the coverage of the tsunami. The uneducated who assume that any non-engineering degree is cake are ignorant of the gradation of complexity between secondary and post-secondary education and/or the difference between graduating learned with a high gpa and just slacking by with a degree.
@brainiac554 as part of the tyt audience you should know that the economic structure, social standards and law are pretty far behind. economical corruption is not an advantage, neither is people dying on the street because they cant afford health care and having laws, for example in utah saying "It is against the law to fish from horseback." is not progressive. furthermore there is no difference to germany in advertisement.
@JanKPiano A lot of those ridiculous laws are unenforced or have already been changed, and there is difference in advertisement. Germany has different laws in place about what can be shown and said on television and are not up to date on how to deal with the production of foods like America is. I know this from experience. "people dying on the street" doesn't happen just because healthcare isn't free. There are laws in place that require medical centers to aid those in need in an emergency.
all she said is true, but hello why she think it is like that, because education (not like usa) should be for everybody and not only for the rich...all this are coming outs of american politics...

cost of living ~650€/month for everything
courses in german, master courses sometimes in english

I went to a private college in Michigan and paid an arm and a leg and while our tuition rates definitely need to go down, you absolutely get a better quality education in the U.S. You'd be amazed at how many people were in my classes in Germany that didn't care about the material at all, partly because they don't pay much for school and because they don't have a cumulative GPA system. GO TO SCHOOL HERE.

@ccrider0217 which uni did u go i went to Freie Universität Berlin and i thought it was brilliant the lecturers were great the student were awesome ;]
sechelf 4 months ago
@sechelf I went to the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and while some of my classes were good, with professors who knew their stuff, there were so many students that I had in classes because they were required to take them (foreign languages, etc.) that only cared about passing and didn't put any effort into their work. I also hated being "taught" by other students via their Referate and not by the actual professors. I'm glad you enjoyed it in Berlin, though!

@ccrider0217 Not everyone can afford that.
KennyEverything 3 months ago
@KennyEverything Neither could I, I took out loans. And if one's finances are such that one can't qualify for a loan, how is that person going to prove to a foreign government that they have sound financial support for the duration of their stay (something I had through my American college)? And what are the odds that someone who didn't go to college--unless they are accepted to an English-speaking university abroad--will have the language skills to take classes in German, French, Chinese, etc.?
ccrider0217 3 months ago

MysteriousMayonaise 4 months ago
Thanks for the flowers, folks, but as a German, I sort of feel the need to keep it real. The question of how the system can be financed isn't solved at all and the studying conditions are often very low-standard.
For example: overcrowded lectures, missing out classes due to too many participants, problems in taking final exams because of too many participants, too little student counseling by professors due to their insufficient number etc. etc.

@jo05dk ..and yeah.. lots of lectures are held in english on -i think- all of our unis. You can choose between danish and english a lot of the time.

@brainiac554 Nah. Americans are getting poor. Even if you split the top 1%'s monies on all of the Americans they'd still only earn half of what the middle class does in the rich countries of Europe. Tell me, what's so developed in America? It's corruption? lol

Enlightenment isnt going to make you money either. America wants good obedient puppets that follow their orders
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld I disagree. I lived in some areas of Europe before moving to the US. You get more of an obedience and order system in Europe than you do in the US.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 Okay so this whole Occupy movement must be big in europe too? Are they shooting tear gas can at your skulls also?
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld Ask London. They don't protest, they riot. More on the point that's not obedience, that's controlling disorder. The same would happen in any good country.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 Okay then I amend my first comment, America is not a puppet master, it is a god complex
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld How so?
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 We shoot tear gas canisters in the face of peaceful protestors and then throw a flash granade into a crowd of people trying to help him. We punch protestors after they get maced and walk away. we litter the street with propaganda and then call the protestors the lying communists.
Hurry for America land of the shut up and get back to work
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld How is that a god complex? You seem to have a serious vendetta against America. I would try actually living here first. THEN form an opinion. Our police don't represent our country. The point is the protesters were FREE to protest. Whether or not the police reacted well or not is irrelevant to the freedom we hold just. The point is we aren't forced to "shut up and get back to work" it allows us the choice. It allows us the freedom to view someone as "lying communists" if we so choose.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 I do live in America. I say god complex as in it thinks its awesome and perfect and number one in everything, despite being number one in very little. Freedom is universal, everyone has free will and they can do whatever they want, the issues is what do they get punished for doing. Sure we are free to protest until we are told to or the police will make us leave.
If its a choice between shutting up or going to jail, then its no more of a choice then anywhere else in the world
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld I know that the police are irrationally violent towards protesters who pose a possible threat, but that doesn't change the fact that we are legally allowed to protest even if police illegally combat us. That's the point I'm making. We are still a free country when compared to most others.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 What is the point of legally being allowed to do something and still getting punished for it?
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld The point is to stand up for your rights. If someone tells you that you can't do something even though you have the right to, you stand up for yourself and your country. Regardless of the punishment.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 We were talking about freedom, not rights. In north korea, they have the right to speak out agains kim jon eil, but they have no freedom to. Rights are inalienable intrinsic human assets, freedom is political.
Gr4yW0rld 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld You have the right to practice your freedom....they correlate.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@Gr4yW0rld Small point: wouldn't the right also necessitate a duty to respect that right? If you can't exercise the right without it being infringed upon, then it seems like you don't actually have that right.

@cazattack23 That's not the case, really. Look at the fee: Cambridge cost 22000 dollars a years, Harvard cost 38000 dollars a year. Now, would you think there is a lot of unemployment in the masters from Cambridge in Harvard? 95.2% of student from cambridge are employment - Harvard is so near that there is no significant difference (95.3% in the number I have).
therrydicule 4 months ago
@cazattack23 this is so not true! if you knew anything about the world outside the US, you'd know that education elswhere, especially countries like Germany, UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland etc. is MUCH higher, FAR better and worldwide acknowledged.
In contrast, American education is often laughed upon. besides a very basic education you don't get much in college! some of the stuff is learned in the last years of german high-schools.
you obviously don't have the slightest clue.

Ana, Jayar, I love you guys, but what's even more embarrassing than the inequalities of our country is how sometimes you guys assume a lot about almost anything, from other countries policies to what you can do with a degree.

You do realize students in a university history class could have any potential major, right? Or does your anti-intellectualism have no bounds?
mistacramer 4 months ago
She stays in Europe, gets her PhD in European history from a European university, comes back to the US, becomes a professor here, her credentials should get her 100k a year. That's not including income from books sold and grants obtained. Ana seems to think that professors don't make much.
DrQuijano 4 months ago 4
@DrQuijano Actually, Anna got it wrong. I am the girl in the video and I said that European Studies is about EU politics. Not history!
crazykate4u 4 months ago
@crazykate4u Same principle applies. Get your PhD in EU Studies in the EU, return to the US (if you feel like it), and get a huge salary from a top tier university because of your credentials. That's true even in the lesser paid fields - a prof. of Caribbean lit. from the University of Puerto Rico can get up to 150k starting, while someone with similar credentials from Rutgers will start at about half.
DrQuijano 4 months ago
The TYT staff are usually pretty cosmopolitian, but this just shows how little Americans know about other countries. In most of Europe education is free. For international students it depends on the country and the degree. If one has a visa that allows one to live in Europe, even students , one gets health care.

Jayar and Ana were off on this one. First of all she said she has a political science degree. So where the fuck did they get European history from? This girl is going to have a banging career. And why does she think being a professor is a bad career choice from a pragmatic viewpoint? Yeah, the salary is not going to make you billions but it can allow you to live quite comfortably.
mistacramer 4 months ago

In the US I would say that not many professors are getting hired, and they're doing adjunct work. It sucks being a professor in the US. But if she is in Europe or Asia being a professor can give you a comfortable lifestyle indeed. Also One of my profs is moving to University of Macau. I worked in Japan for awhile; it broke my heart to see the coverage of the tsunami. JanKPiano 4 months ago
@JanKPiano Television, economic structure, advertising, social standard, and law.
brainiac554 4 months ago
@brainiac554 as part of the tyt audience you should know that the economic structure, social standards and law are pretty far behind. economical corruption is not an advantage, neither is people dying on the street because they cant afford health care and having laws, for example in utah saying "It is against the law to fish from horseback." is not progressive. furthermore there is no difference to germany in advertisement.
JanKPiano 4 months ago
@JanKPiano A lot of those ridiculous laws are unenforced or have already been changed, and there is difference in advertisement. Germany has different laws in place about what can be shown and said on television and are not up to date on how to deal with the production of foods like America is. I know this from experience. "people dying on the street" doesn't happen just because healthcare isn't free. There are laws in place that require medical centers to aid those in need in an emergency.
