he's lucky it didn't go through the windshield i have seen that happen already i don't use chains to pull out with and if i do i put a shirt or something on the chain and open the hood so atleast the chain is weighted down and if it does break bad and fly towards your truck it hits the inside of the hood instead of your windshield

My father lost the tip of his finger when a chain, just like this one, snapped under tremendous pressure. He worked for Caterpillar as a mechanic fixing diesel engines. I still remember to this day, when I was about four or five years old, visiting him in the hospital with my mother and seeing his hand elevated and wrapped in bandages. this is why i only use a chain to pull people out of snow, easier to get someone unstuck then deep in sand so less change or snapping it, also how was it attached? if it was attached to a ball hitch it can slip off easy, always use a hook attachment

You never jerk a chain or a cable. You can jerk a strap. No matter how good a chain it is, its only as strong as its weakest link. When a chain or cable breaks it has the force to cut through a person.

A strap absorbs a lot of force. If it breaks it won't do as much damage. It would still hurt you, but its not as likely to kill you.

Hey my friend died of this last year, I live in Kansas.
