  • I was recently diagnosed with BPD and was recommended to get involved with DBT but sadly I have no spare time to be involved with DBT. So I'm trying to learn more about it. Hopefully this will help me. Thanks for the info.

  • Trisha, you have to learn to live with "it" and to control "it", and not let "it" control you. For these skills DBT can be very useful. But DBT isn't a self helping therapy, you'll need for it a so called third person. Somone who is controlling you a the beginning, someone who is checking your self manipulating sides and also someone who trains you in these so called "skills". So beside patience and discipline from the client's side, it's needing also an experienced therapist. Then DBT can help.

  • I've just been diagnosed with BPD, and just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to put these videos up. They cut the crap and get to the point - exactly what I was looking for! I am severely Bulimic too so am interested in DBT as a treatment for both. I'm gonna check out your other videos right now. Great stuff, thank you.

  • Differences! Bipolar long periods od mania and long periods of depression! borderline personailty disorder. Moods change very quick being nice one minutes then nasty, also very good liars!

    I have both but more bipolar then borderline. sometimes people have both and that is way it is so hard to get a diagnoses.

  • Yes, I have both, but I tend to be more borderline. I get highs and lows too... I am not nasty nor am I a liar. Your stigma is getting in the way.

  • I do understand what you are saying not saying you are a liar my friend i did not want to afend you in anyway. It is know that to be the cause of a lot of borderlines, and i'm not a liar either i thinks is when they have just have borderline full on. I have more bipolar then borderline, At this time with bipolar it is a nightmare with the depression my mum needs to hide knife, tables way from me so i don't do nothing. love the high tho. Very hard to get diagnoses

    Borderline is a combo of a number of mood disorders not just bipolar, most borderlines get labelled bipolar until they get to know the patient. Investigate more and see how many other disorders with which, you can say you might have somethings in common.

  • i'm almost done with dbt, i have 3 weeks left. it has helped alot but im still unsure on some of the lessons. it can be helpful for those who are willing to learn skills.

    there not really such thing as borderline personality disorder. its only a temporary name..

    there is brain development damage that blocks you from being who you are.

    researches confirmed the brain damage, its only a matter of time they will realize from what it is caused...

    and imo, there should also sexual abuse therapy besides the dbt.

  • I am super concious of child abuse & nasty parent people. It triggers all kinds of things and I end up exploding.

  • Borderline personality disorder contains DPD, which is only from child molesting\abuse.

    those who claim they werent mollested dont remember it because it happend before the age of 3

    those mollesting basterds chose them because they knew they wont be able to remmber it or tell...

    before i done some digging (which is very dangerous so i dont recommend on it...) in my childhood memories i was exactly like her.

    un aware of what i been trough as a toddler

  • I am sorry you found about your past this way. But i have to disagree with the molestation having to be present. I was in no way molested by my parents or care givers.

  • the cause of BPD is molesting you dont remember it because it happend when you where a baby. thats why it comes with disotsiative personality disorder, which is ONLY from sexual abuse.

    you still deny it, you dont want to think that you are someone that been molested because you dont want feel weaker and more harmful than what you are now.

    you must go to the right therapist

    its not genetic, its not JUST HAPPEND

    its not from other trauma youve been trough its only from abuse that you denied to...

  • Many people who suffer with BPD have been molested during childhood, but not all BPD sufferers. How can you assume that someone who struggles with the disorder is suffering as a result of child molestation or sexual abuse? Please support your claim with facts.

  • According to Dr. Maricia Linehan (the guru of dbt and borderline) this is correct it does not have to be only sexual abuse.

  • hI, thanks for commenting, bpd is not just caused by sexual abuse. It is also abuse by neglect. abuse by wth holding love, never validating the child and as well in my case corporal punishment and no love.

    I actually participated in CBT about four years. I found it to be very helpful and encouraging. I suppose it was mostly because it was in a group setting, and I enjoyed being with others who shared similar concerns and contributed helpful insights and advice.

    I realize that I want more people in my life, and I would again like to be in group therapy. I tried to go to a session hosted by NAMI two days ago, but I have been having insomnia, so I didn't make it.

    I encourage you to try taking the class and then keep the literature, you learn the stuff in class and can aparticipate on the parts you have difficulty..

  • Actually, I have thought about asking my therapist and/or psychiatrist about this kind of therapy. I have only ever been Dx'd with Depression, Anxiety and OCD--as far as I know :)--but I think DBT might benefit me.

  • I can't see how it could hurt. If you think it would be benificial go for it with gusto

  • I think the midfulness component to DBT is a good thing for a lot of people, the rest of it seems like CBT and common sense to me.

  • This was really helpful to me. I know I get stuck in a rut in my mind and in my behaviour - and in my feelings as reactions to things and people. It's good to find ways to break the cycle and take stock of the things that can bring about positive change. I've been trying to take walks and go for drives and that helps. Also singing. It also helps to organise my living space. I need to limit my time on YT in order to get this other stuff done though!! What a bind!!!

  • i have heard that DBT is very effective for people with bordeline personality disorder,its not widely available here in the UK ,only CBT which i,ve done. Thanks..

  • Yes, I took a bit of CBT too.. but only for a shory while then they switched my to this.
