  • A little slow for my liking but its ok!

  • Nice this attacking bull style of conducting

  • sound and video are incorrect

  • Accidental early oboe entry at 1:24?

  • Ozawa è stato uno dei migliori allievi di Herbert von Karajan

  • 小澤さんの指揮は、体の動きだけで曲の雰囲気が伝わってくるぐらい素晴らしいものです。

  • i cant wait to play this at florida all state!

  • fuck yeah.

  • ozawa's instrument is the orchestra

  • My students get a kick out of Seiji's hair....... :-)

  • conductor-hilarious

  • Ozawa is brilliant!!

  • I love Ozawa...I love this music :D

  • the conductor is hilarious :p gotta say. my fav conductor ever so far is Ludovic Merlot. he is so amazing! im playing this with my youth symphony (seattle youth symphony) gonna be fun!

  • I like Ozawa's version, it is so free and the music feels so open!

  • It's when I hear this kind of music that I think there should be an automatic replay mode in youtube... ;)

  • As someone who used to play in a band, I much prefer the conducting style of say James Levine. Doing guesswork on what the conductor is trying to say is not fun at all, and in some parts, Ozawa completely stops keeping time.

Obviously, some people like this style, but to each their own.

  • YEEAAAH OZAWA

    bow down to his greatness

    he's amazing.

  • 4 people listen to Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

  • @revacohen

Very possibly - I cannot believe anyone could seriously dislike this.

  • I just love watching the bows all in synch. I love it! and I love the sound >< so beautiful. Thank you for the upload~

  • I'm a 15 year old black guy...and i approve this music :)

  • @ShadowWolf90001 steve urkel is still alive!! :)

  • @ShadowWolf90001 Why should I care about your approval?

  • Not all czechs were the coachmen or servants :-) Antonín Dvořák 4 life

  • je suis tombée dessus para hasard mais ça déchire grave!

  • Nothing beats this kind of music.

  • i just wanna say i've listened to this 10 times in a row. :P

  • @Baconisdelicous ONLY TEN TIMES???? - CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!! ;-) *g*

  • The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, to me, is one of the most beautiful "things" of Austria. I love how every musician seems to fit perfectly into the orchestra. Their sound is like unreal because it is so warming and moving… But of corse it's real :D. Dvorak is one of my favorite composers and Ozawa is a tremendous conductor. I'd really like to see them live someday but unfortunately. Getting tickets is such a challenge cuz everybody wants them :D And they are out of stock very fast. -.-

  • bravoooo!!!!! maestro ozawa

  • They are making a movie about Dvorak!!! The movie would be about him and the town that inspired him. spillvillethemovie I can't wait for this.

  • BAROQUE OBOES!!!!!

  • @xtremegamer515 Vienna oboe

  • Absolutely brilliant!!! :D

  • wut wieners

  • is learning to ply this on piano

  • Name Of The Conductor Please?

  • @katich5 Seiji Ozawa

  • performed absolutely perfect

  • conductor approved, although czech conductors give dvorak inner spirit ;)

  • Hey..lets make this discussion political .Don't the commies say that the workers do all the work and the bosses just get fat off other peoples labor?..so..can it be said that the conductor plays no role in this piece and takes all the credit? I'm gonna let my hair grow like that when I get old(er)!..gonna get started today growing my hair..and..where's my stick..(baton?).

  • What DVD is this from?

  • so much passion in that conductor

  • Look at that hair...xD

  • simply wonderful

  • it is quite remarkable that they tolerate someone of other ethnicity conducting the wiener philarmoniker, such a phenomenon doesn´t take place among the musicians, theres not even women playing in there. how austrian of them.

  • This is the Vienna Philharmonic?? I think the secret's out...they perform like a first class slavic orchestra. Maybe most of the orchestra is comprised of slavs anyways.

I love this. This is such a great Dance #1........bursting with color, vivacity, joy. WOO HOO!!!

  • Wonderful, thanks for posting!

  • Gotta love the conductor..

  • Ok.... I HAVE GOT TO LEARN HOW TO CONDUCT LIKE THIS WITH THAT HAIR 8D

  • Oddly enough, the conductor's physical appearance reminds me of Albert Einstein. From the back, anyways (his hair).

  • ozava

  • The ending gives me chills!

  • Fantastico !

  • 4:25 f - THIS is how you tell an entire orchestra to stand up, when you're a conductor on the podium!

Yes, there is an odd note @ 1:25.

What of it - it's quiet, and the greatest part of this performance is well toned, accurately phrased, and sufficiently intense to indeed (as @saxcock said) match the quality of the George Szell/Cleveland Orchestra rendition.

And it is unusual in having both a good intro and a very good (for video, to watch) aftermath - the audience is so colorful! etc...

  • very impressive, it makes feel really good

  • This is, of course, a great rendering of a wonderful dance. You can't dispute Vienna and their sound, and of course, their geographic connection to the dance. If you are looking for another version, try Szell and Cleveland. It is the finest Slovanic Dances available. By the way, if I were a flute player, I would be wanting to play the Slavonic Dances, and Carnival Overture. They are made just for the Flute!

  • I love this movement! Its soo exciting and energetic..man 1:51-2:01 is a killer to play for the violins ><

  • I've seen a lot of videos of the slavonic dance No.1 but seriously... this one is just great, must have been amazing being there !

  • soberbia

  • SOAB! That crash cymbal player was going so freaking fast at 3:48!!!!!!

  • It is so funny but i played this I don't think it was that fast though but boy it was tiring!!!

  • I love this ... fantastic!!!!!!

  • Грандиозно!

  • I LOVE HIS HAIR! :D

  • Der Derigent ist lustig :D

    but i like it

  • The conductor seems to be using his hair to help him conduct :D I love that guy, he made me laugh :)

I have to say this is one of my favourite Slavonic Dances, the energy is just amazing and always puts me in a better mood!

*wishing to find a wig that looks like the conductor's hair*

  • At 0:20, I would swear he is actually conducting with his hair!

  • @SirosoGunZ Haha, that's cute!

  • excellent conducting sound was brilliant

  • I love every single one of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, but this is my favorite one. The energy, the emotion in this song is great. This is pure classical Rock 'n roll!

  • hair ROCKs

  • Pure happiness

  • *sigh* I can't get enough of his Slavonic dances. I'm going to have to buy some so I can listen to it on a good sound system.

  • lol who wouldn't think it was seiji when you can see that hairstyle!

  • who was up in the box that they shot to near the end?

  • I love all of the slavonic dances!

  • haha.. that Ozawa guy is wild.. great conductor though

  • Playing this in a Concert band, at the moment.

Love the slavonic dances ! :D

  • pure masterpiece, Tondo well done........

  • umm yeah... that's Vienna Philharmonic in German...

  • An epileptic Chia Pet?

  • is there a mistake ar 1.25?? someone comin in a tad early??

  • i thought that too

  • I don't understand why Ozawa has that haircut. Being Karajans pupil he must've learned something about style.

  • and this is his style....so what?

  • One of my favorites and this is supremely done. I really like it! Good stuff.

  • <3 dvorak <3 all slavonic dances

  • This is my first comment about Ozawa's conducting style. The piece was performed beautifully---tempo was a bit slower than usual but not totally off. Strings were in sync throughout. Vienna Phil---top notch orchestra. I hate it that Ozawa is too too grandiose with his style and manner---the oboeist wasn't wrong on the note, he mistook Ozawa's antics for an entrance cue surely. What would HvK and Lenny say if they were here today?

  • This is an excellent performance of the dance, although personally i prefer the version for 4 hands

  • good! it makes me remember those dusks over Voltava River, crossing Karlovy bridge and having a beer close to the powder tower.

  • i love the ozawa´s movements :D excelent version :D

  • Poor oboe at 1:25.

This is possibly my favorite Slavonic Dance.

  • I'm sorry, but skipping the finesse of his style and by-passing the soul of this piece - THE CONDUCTAR HAS AWESOME HAIR!!! =D *wants hair like that when gets to his age*

  • @Avenger1199 IT'S ALIVE!!!

  • @Avenger1199

to have hair like this you have to apprentice with the two top conductors of the 21st century. von Karajan and Bernstein. and become a top conductor yourself. then and only then may you sport a hairdo like this.

  • @Avenger1199 I agree with you :D His hair is awsome!

    And it sounds great!

  • Hehe... Wiener .. heh!..

  • viener

  • Slower than I'm used to, but still really great.

  • dude reminds of something from an 80's rock band.

  • amazing conductor!

he's telling the musicians with his eyes what they to have to play. you can drive an eurostar with his beautiful energy!!

  • @mdendievelm You mean he's telling the musicians with his hair.

  • This is amazing, I couldn't even imagine the chills I'd get from being at this concert. Seiji Ozawa is such a legend, and the Vienna Phil is so unparalleled!

  • For any mistakes, if ever any, just accept that this is live and that the performers are human just like you and me. Enjoy the music jabsomdoc...the performance is fantastic!

  • the opening note is not together!

  • I disagree. I believe you are mistaking off-timeliness for the acciaccatura that precedes the first chord...I would say that they are quite together, as acciaccaturas have no metrical value.

  • hmm you may be right. im not familiar with the actual score. just comparing with other recordings.

  • I love the conductor's fro.

  • that conductor looks animated lol.

  • He's a CG anime :)

  • why are they all guys

    :)

  • There is a woman I believe in the 2nd violin section way in the back desk in this video. So it is not all guys.

  • They often are in the top orchestras, though that's slowing changing across the world with gender equality.

  • The Vienna Philharmonic is especially notorious for preferring men in the selection process.

  • That was amazing. One of my favorite pieces from Dvorak. XD

  • Indeed

    this is great

  • Indeed.

  • I love the conducter without his stick.

  • 素晴らしい!
