I love this promo because Randy Newman remade his hit I Love L.A. for this. I just wonder if my friend, Steve Lukather from Toto, played guitar on this like he did on the original I Love L.A. track. I guess there's only one way to find out....LOL!!!
I wonder how Diff'rent Strokes could've been featured in this promo.Either it wasn't picked up by ABC when this promo was created, or they just didn't want to bother since it was way past it's prime.
I love it! I can just imagine suits sitting around a boardroom table watching this on their 19" TV's, rocking in their chairs doing the whiteman overbite and pumping their fists.
Good Promo actually better then NBC's "Lets All Be There" promo although in my opinion NBC had the better shows overall in all genres that yr...as a teen in 85 i was glued towards NBC's more youth oriented programming. the late 70's and early 80's was for me a better time for ABC with Battlestar Galactica, Strike Force, That's Incrediable, Happy Days, Tales of the Golden Monkey Greatest American Hero and The Hardy Boys by 85 NBC would take over for alot of must see tv
@scottbaino ....Your definitely right about the Saturday Mornings i recall they used to have short promos for the toons coming out that fall ...the 80's was prettty much the peak of the by gone Saturday Morning cartoon era.....also one of reasons TV so much more watchable and enjoyable back then was the competition between the 3 networks to outdo each other and be original...now we are in a hypercorprate era of TV were there really arn't networks but Corporations that copy each other endlessly
I was born in 1966 so I experienced this first hand. There are times I wish I was 20 years younger but if I had to miss out on all these good things, I think I'd rather be my 43 year old self.

Yes -- let's program the "sheeple" to watch more "TV" to get their minds off what's really going on...
You can bet your ass the PTB said and still say, "Let's get these dumbass sheep laughing at an electronic box so we can take whatever we want from 'em"
Commercials like these make me cringe -- as they are nothing but psychological programming...
This reminds me of the episode of the FOX sitcom "Duet" where Jane got a new boyfriend and they called each other "Sugarlips" and "Binky" to which Linda quipped "Sugarlips and Binky, sounds like an ABC show".
I think it's funny that both "Hollywood Beat" and "Lime Street" were both cancelled within the first 3 months of the fall 1985 season. ABC should have stayed with ""T.J. Hooker" and given "Finder Of Lost Loves" more of a fair chance. But alas, the ABC execs were still smarting over their decision to snub "The Cosby Show" and were determined to make ABC #1 again, they were just clueless about how to make that happen.
Why did ABC always go for this macho image? It is one reason why I hated ABC entertainment programming in the 1970s and 1980s because it played up this type of stuff.
Does anyone remember a series of promos around '87-'89 that had doo wop vocals set to the melody of the Jackson 5's "ABC?" I know I'm not imagining this. I remember it distinctly yet I haven't been able to find any trace it ever existed. I think ABC used it primarily to promote their Saturday morning line-up. Can anyone help me out?
Bruce Willis when he was on Moonlighting with Cybill Shepard... love it when he pulls the Tablecloth and it has a big ABC LOGO she gives him a look after he says"You'll Love It" . Bruce Willis had hair back then now he's Bald..lol
All the actors in the video look so young I did to back then. How time moves on but the memories always keep up and stay bright in the mind. ABC, Los Angeles and the 80's, what a great trio. =)
What great times and great televison back then. Today's shows, along with the popular music has really, really changed since then, and not for the better, IMO. I miss the days when family and friends (all ages) could gather around and find something great on TV to watch together.
I was a teen in the 80's, so I was really into a lot of these shows and I looked up to a lot of the actors. Again...those were great times.
Using Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." as the basis for their 1985-'86 jingle, this was a very crucial season for ABC- they had jettisoned almost all of Aaron Spelling's shows from the previous season {save "THE LOVE BOAT", "HOTEL" and "DYNASTY"}, gambling on a few new comedies {including "GROWING PAINS"} and the rise of their mid-season replacement "MOONLIGHTING"...and the network DID turn itself around!
What ABC are you watching? I don't know, maybe it's just personal taste, but I do follow Lost, am hooked on Brothers & Sisters and Ugly Betty, and do like some of the reality shows. The only area they need to make up for currently is sitcoms; they had nearly all their new comedies bomb this season.
NBC's washed up...I miss the old NBC, back in 2001, all those great shows like Friends, Fraiser, Will & Grace, Crossing Jordan...etc. I sure hope that network recovers.
NBC is the best network no one's watching... except me. They got My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, Scrubs (the show Grey's Anatomy ripped off), and 1 vs. 100. And I don't mean to sound like a shill, but their news is the best on TV.
Wow. You can just tell they spent money on this, in so many ways.
You will NEVER see the likes of this again.

With everything being remade these days why can't t.v. go back to how it was in the 80's. Bring back promos like this. So nostalgic.

I agree...but let's be honest, it'll never happen. 3;30 is 7 commercials they could be running instead.
