Shouldn't you be using the Marshall for that 80's stuff cracker?lol. SO...yeah i traded my 5150 combo for a DSL100MLB.i still can't believe you sold that Cobra man.
@diesect33 Amazing amp, I wish I could hold of one here in Sweden, it seems to be in the same tonal character as a 5150 with pristine cleans to it, which is something the 5150 lacks, but this killer amp seems to do them both without problem!
@Mygodtheastronaut A lot of high end amp heads have slave, line or headphone outs. Its possible to play without the cab if you have one of the said outputs.
@some of the guys complaining about the cobra being too fizzy - To overcome this you have to turn the channel volume up to about 3pm, gets rid of the fizz.
ok so i really like the tone greenbacks put out but dont four greenbacks only put out 100 watts?? and if so wouldnt a head over 100 watts be too powerful? Sorry if this is a dumb question just wanna know ha ha
@OblivionDC i heard that wattage is usualy rated on an amps clean channel and its lead channel could acctualy be much higher in wattage however im not too sure how that would effect the speakers though
Dial the amp in using your ears not your eyes. The EQ on this thing is pretty weird. Also, try using a different speaker. V30's are pretty fizzy as it is. The amp doesn't really like active pickups either.
@leod74 me neither, lol. Yeah i have read alot of reviews about this amp not taking kindly to actives. i think from exp amps that are spongier do well but, tight amps just don't mix with EMG's. I've read some horror stories about the amps build quality and reliability but, other than the Invader this is my fav. the cleans are hypnotic and the drive is like a punch in the face by a nail covered glove IE: sexy and a little sadomasochistic....no...wait...it's just a tone monster.
@leod74 how can a framus cobra not respond well to active pickups when joel stroetzel (Killswitch Engage guitar player) gets a great tone with EMGs? Well, to be fair you are playing at a really low volume....
@devilduc try playing the amp at volumes it is DESIGNED to play, this means at least around half way. At that point the fizz goes totally away and becomes a nice warm detailed character full of harmonics and width. V30 are totally fine, greenbacks only make it sound fuller.
For sure. I like the amp both ways, but I use REALLY low output pickups that are really fat sounding and the boost just tightens everything up and makes the amp sound even more pissed off.
that thing you do at 1:33 the like a high power chord, playing the 2 notes separately then sliding like 3 frets over and do it... I always do that too
Freaking awesome tone bro!

@skate4free7 I got the Cobra's I had for $1100

@leod74 Is that just the head or head and cabinet man?

@Mygodtheastronaut Wow you're stupid. You can't play a head without cabinet.

@xTristan1994 I meant the price bro. Per se I already have a cabinet and I just want a new head :P

@skate4free7 The Cobra is more about 1800 € in europe , 1100 $, in USA, if it's an used amp is a very cheap price, that amp is not so cheap.

matthewk7777 2 years ago
@matthewk7777
The Cobra is rated at 100 watts RMS. It'll produce transient spikes over 100 watts but that shouldn't hurt the greenbacks at all.
OblivionDC 2 years ago
Thanks :) so my peavey 3120 would be too much power for a greenback loaded cab being that it is 120watts orrrrr....?

yep a head over 100watts would not be suitable for this kind of speaker configuration.

Nice man!
I also have the Cobra and a Straight cobra cabinet, Greenbacks are the way to go with the cobra!
I also use EMG's but am planning to go Bareknuckle or something and also use a booster. Like ur tone!
Powerslavery 2 years ago
yes I was thinking to use an other cab , and a guitar with pasive pickup.
but killswitch engage use the same gears tha me (emg guitar , maxon od 808 boost , mesa cab with 4 V30's.) and it sound killer !!
thanks for your answers guy !
devilduc 2 years ago
I have a cobra too.but I realy disappointed.. he sound so "fuzzy", too tight and the tribble is not clean at all...
Y play on a framus 2*12 with V30's and an epiphone les paul prophecy(emg 81/85)
do you change something in this head ?
what do you suggest me for having a better tone ?
sorry for my english^^

@geicowithdagheko1 I thought he used a Splawn now. I do believe it's a Nitro that he uses.

@0ftheWALLS just because a famous guy owns an amp doesn't mean he uses it for everything he records...even so, the Nitro is a great amp!

@geicowithdagheko1 because they EQ the shit out of their tone after it hits the mic?

Yeah I'm actually sliding up the scale in diatonic thirds. Its kind of a Soilwork trick, I think.

Ya, see I don't know anything about diatonics or anything I just heard someone (probably from soilwork) do that and I thought it sounded cool.
