I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
Now whoever said it can't go around corners is a dumbass. No other car that long can corner or do a u turn. Try doing it with a caddy, your not gonna get fat.

When I was in college (1989) I drove a 1970 6.3litre 300sel around an entire summer while my dad put a new engine in my 1966 230s (4 speed stick shift w/ dual zenith carbs) that I used to drive off-road. I had that 6.3 going over 150 MPH about 60-70x that summer and I smoked a lot of 280 ZXs and Irocs on the freeway. At 150mph that car was still pushin to go faster with space. At 50 MPH it was like the powerband of KX125 motorcycle kicking in. Amazing car!!!

hbgsr, if you look closely the speed is in mph. The clip starts at about 3 secs and gets through 60mph in 9 secs. The official stats for a 300SEL 6.3 were:
0-60mph(0-62mph)= 6.2 secs (6.5secs)
0-100mph = 14.95 secs.
If you don't think that's quick for a car that's 40 years old, then you're a complete idiot! This is easily the 70s equivalent of SL65 AMG performance.
with your front drive rice box you can't do nothin but tune it to death. This car will kick your cars ass. I'm sure you could wipe out the civic with the benz. The civic would be a pile of junk and the benz would have 2 or 3 scratches.
Drifting with an RWD car is way harder than steering, pulling the handbrake and feeling awesome because the car is "drifting"
Nawet dziś zawstydza dużą większość samochodów więc poczytaj i pomyśl zanim coś napiszesz.
the 300SEL 6.3 is faster than the 450SEL 6.9. it used a 4 speed ZF autmatic transmission, the 6.9 used a three speed automatic Borg Warner transmission, that really slowed it down
I thought Mercedes made their own autos - I will check on this. The 4 speed ones were epicyclic - they had a rougher change at time but the gears all lock up. The later 3 and 4 speeds were torque converters (smoother for the US market).
@Heske1991 that's wrong. the difference between both was the power transmission: the 6.3 had a hydraulic clutch and the 6.9 was one of the first MB with lock-up torque converter. to me it's unknown that Borg Warner ever engineered a transmission for MB. maybe some parts were taken from Borg Warner but till 1990 nearly all MB transmissions were engineered by MB! btw: the 6.9 weighs about 200 kg more, that could also explain the worse performance.
Amazing, this was the culprit of technology and luxury when I was born. Awesome!
