I'm French, and here in France we had copies of this american series.. and I can tell you one thing, all those who have seen these episodes still remember Gilligan's character, and you know what? this serie has never ever been shown agin on tv here ! and we miss this matter of fact..;
and Iwas never lucky enough to find any dvd or copy of any episode...
so you can imagine how happy I am when I just can listen to this song...
yeah i know what you mean, everything was much better then, no taxes on commodities, groceries, cars boats, food, homes, gas was so cheap it was almost free and no one was sneaking into the country then cause the military patrolled the borders, and in 1960 99% of americans in this country were americans, there was only two races, whites and eskimo's. i'm not making this up. in 1968 the civil rights movement, was a mistake!
If you type into search: russell johnson book signing.....it's a pretty cool video, with Mr.Johnson getting interviewed by the press and fans talking about the show. Also, if you type into search: russell johnson interview........it's the best you'll ever see.
Thank you so much for this original theme. So many memories are awakened with this song........its funny to read the comments from assholes below who have no idea what there even commenting on. They probably werent even on Planet Earth at the time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"... with Gilligan, the Skipper too,
the millionaire, and his wife, the movie star, and... uh... some other guys... and wasn't there a DOOOOOG?" Jesus, guys, would it kill you to remember the Professor and Mary-Anne? The rest of us do, and WE'RE not being paid for it. That said, there should have been a dog on the island, it couldn't hurt.
If in the first season the opening Theme song was performed by THE WELLINGTONS, when (if ever) was it sung by THE FOUR PREPS? Did they sing the opening for the color episodes?
tengo hoy 47 años, cuando venia del colegio, me moria por ver la isla de gillligan y despues hacia las tarreas, siento que Dios los debe haber bendecido por muchos años, por todo lo que nos dieronl.........gracias los amo
You know the Minnow you see here is still around. But its been refurbished and doesn't look like it does here. The Orca was an old boat that Jaws' production designer bought and built it up extensively for the film. The boat sank or was scrapped, it's not around anymore.
Why is it Gilligan's island? As the boss, shouldn't it be called "Skipper's Island"? Or maybe the rich guy bought it from him, or the movie star married him.. etc.
well, Bob Denver changed that between seasons and starting with season number two the Professor and Mary Ann were included in the lyrics and in the show's opening credits.
a funny thing is...a lot of the black and white episodes sometimes appeared "in color" during the syndicated re-runs. in my eyes, the shows were good whether they were in black and white or color.
I glad to have found this! this was a classic in Argentina in the 70'. In the province of Cordoba, on channel 10, everyday at 12.30 after the midday news.
There was a time when Gilligan's hat became a fashion item for teenagers.
Can anybody believe that in Great Britain nobody knows Guilligan's Island and neither The Three Stooges. Shocking!
they were the "rich couple" prototype and it's long been a comical device to portray the rich as "packing everything" because it shows off their wealth to have a big wardrobe. that's my explanation why the Howell's decided to bring their wardrobe...plus you could say Mr Howell was a pessimist and a cynic and probably thought the worst and planned ahead.
I remember turning the tv on in my childhood JUST to hear the theme song(s). Let's face it; this show actually sucked.

next lyrics...
"The professor and Mary and..all the rest, here on Gilligan's Isle!"
The plots were crap, yet it was all about how a bunch of dumb folks were just lucky to survive. :)

nope--it was gilligan's fault (according to the skipper) tha tthey were on the island--it was not a good thing so they gave the blame to gilligan
