They were watching the film Ruthie (Julianne Moore) acted in before her movie career flopped. Sam (Johnny Depp) knew all the lines to this film and kept saying them out loud as they were watching. So basically the movie doesnt really exist. It was just created for Benny and Joon film. It was called something like.. "The prom queen mutilator" At least thats mentioned in one of Sam's lines in the movie.
