does it matter if all the japanese population was pro war? THOSE CITIES WERE CIVILIAN TARGETS. America broke that year so many rules. Americans are a bunch of hypocrites who are bending the rules in order to sue them well. Guess if Saddam would have dropped a nuke over any other world city would have been a terrorist act. @pieteam777 We have the luxary to address the morality of this outside the context of WW2 and hope we can avoid cheap shots stating the Japanese started and deserved it.The blitz on UK Cities by the Germans,Allied attacks on German cities,the B29 fire raids on Japan killed more than the bombs on certain nights,however the view at the time was they supported war industries and the military leaders saw them as strategic targets.

@pieteam777 All parties in the war bombed civilian targets-having been to both cities even their museums state that they had military value.Nagasaki had huge military staging assets etc,The war ended within1 week of Fat Man being dropped.Defeating a Japan refusing to surrender on its mainland would take +2-3 years,millions of lost lives on all sides and the Allies had to start sending all its forces from Europe as Japans homeland defence plans included mobilising all able civilian as combatants

@pieteam777 It was horrific but we never had to fight a global war, watch millions die on all sides,soldiers&civilians, or destroy Germany,flatten its cities and their civilian armaments works to defeat an unsurrendering Hitler:the same would have happened to Japan. Needing to move key air/land forces from Europe to support a similar invasion of Japan would have left a weak Europe at Stalins mercy, and the Allied leaders knew this.
Problem lies in humanity inability to stop killing each other.

They don't fight, that means that if you kill them on purpose you are just a war criminal, it's so obvious that even a little kid could understand it. And by the way Japan surrendered because the emperor wanted it. The USA just wanted to end the war quickly and they succedeed by killing thousands of innocents people.
