Hey I'm a huge fan of the CZ pistols, and am really looking into the SP01 Shadow but have never gotten to try one. Have you fired the CZ-75b and if so, what does the trigger feel like without having a Firing Pin Block and the 85 trigger? Is the recoil any better as well?
@Idrinkhoppes Trigger pull without firing pin safety is just a little bit lighter. As far as I know you subsequently remove the safety from a CZ-75. For lighter trigger pull you've to substitute the main spring through a 15 Ibs spring. You can even use a 13 Ibs spring, if you've got the Hobdell square hammer (CZ Custom Shop). The Shadow model has the 15 Ibs mainspring factory-made. The heavier frame of the SP-01 reduces the recoil and you've a better grip as well.
@HobMills It definitely looks like I will be purchasing one shortly, though I'd like to have the CZ Custom shop convert it to Single Action only with the flat trigger, and maybe the hammer since I have heard good things about both. Also, what you said about the grip on the Shadow, isn't the grip a tad higher for recoil management reasons?
@Idrinkhoppes Conversion to single action trigger is certainly the best way for a light trigger pull. But for IPSC Production Class it's not allowed to use a SA trigger. If you convert to SA be sure that you will get not only the SA trigger but also the SA trigger bar and SA hammer. The grip isn't higher on the shadow, the frame has only a longer dustcover. I personally like this, because the gun is more front-heavy. This gives me a better grip, but this may differ on the way you hold the gun.
@HobMills I really appreciate that you're being so patient with my questions, really. Since I'm not really looking into competing in any sanctioned events, just more of a custom range toy. I'll definitely have to look into things a bit more. Any tips on recoil management on the shooter's end?
@Idrinkhoppes I'm not a shooting trainer, but there are several videos on YouTube which explains stance and grip for good gun control and rcoil management. e.g. this one: youtube . com / watch?v=ZB7RrA7IMNA
Wicked good follow up shots. Good shooting
