The Spirit of Troy earned its first platinum disk for this, so a "Solid Gold "appearance isn't surprising. But that stage is wretched-it's far too small for USC's incomparable drumline and the song girls are on the floor!
Indeed! You're 100% right (Talking to ethanotemo). Though, it would need a hell of a lot of practising for this to be reproduced! But why do you need the USC band? There's others just as good, if not better, who can manage to do this (Talking to vamnews)!
You are one ignorant asshole. Diane Carrol was not on Solid Gold you twit. Dionne warwick was the hostess a while, and if you had any brains at all you know they are two different people. In fact, I don't even know who is Diane Carrol. There is a actress who was also a good singer named Diahann Carroll, but a moron like you would never know the difference. Best thing you can do is STFU.
But even without liking the song, seeing a clip from a 1979 episode of Solid Gold with Dionne Warwick and a guy talking about "records" is amusement itself! Takes me waaaaaaaaaaaaay back!
I am not a great fan of stevie, but she swings the batton nicely. And this band, wow! It would have been completely perfect, when we also saw FM in action> so yes> at least twice as long....
I was in the USC band at the time. The TUSK album was a deviation from prior FM albums as I believe each member contributed a couple of their own songs to it.
The original recording of the marching band was in Dodger Stadium; John McVie didn't appear, which is why Mick Fleetwood carried the cardboard cutout of him around.
About thirty of the band members overdubbed the Dodger Stadium recording in a studio. I remember there had been a "Grease" party in the lot prior to our session.
I remember really liking this song when I was about 11 (in 1984) My mom had great taste in music and this album was one she really liked. The 70's had some fantastic music that wasn't Disco. I saw this song on a jukebox just the other day and I played it for my kids and they dug it too!
You know, I grew up in the 70s and 80s and I love the music from back then. But I really don't understand why so many people complain about today's music. There's all kinds of good stuff out there.
todays bands, if their music doesn't make you want to put a bullet in your brain, then their lyrics do... now i know how my parents felt when i was blasting out RUSH! OH!
Thank you for posting! I have never seen this before. And as for some of the comments..Fleetwood Mac didn't want the album Tusk to be anything like Rumours. I think they succeeded! Tusk is my favorite album by them.
Great song...USC band really adds power to it! Those of us who can remember when this came out took cool music from bands like Fleetwood Mac for granted...now we really miss it considering the grey noise garbage music that permeates the radio today.
Kids? See what we had to deal with back in our day? (Solid Gold) No MTV or youtube for us! Anyway, I don't know a girl alive at that time who didn't want to be Stevie Nicks, twirling that baton and marching so adorably.
As I remember this whole Tusk thing, it was not the big hit they are saying it is. Seems to me there was a lot of infighting in the band and the album was mixed by Mick or Lindsy without the other members hearing it before it was released.

And to think I sometimes think new music is shit, this crap could easily induce vomiting if I ate something I shouldn't have.

I don't think that's dorky at all and when you get older hopefully you will appreciate what a unique and cool experience she was able to have.

Dionne Warwick was there with Glenn Campbell. Wasn't able to find Diane Carroll. Moron!

keonisan 2 years ago
You're right. The lyrics do not follow a sensible order. Why they have the word Tusk in the song or the title is nonsensical.
The song does have a great beat, but this is hard to reproduce when in concert; how are you going to get the USC Condom band on stage?

Mick Fleetwood, the best drummer of all time.

ok...seriously..they showed THIS on Solid Gold...?? weirrrddd...
I used to watch Solid Gold semi-regularly and do not remember this..
I was a big Mac fan, even back then..so I would have remembered this..

Stevie Nicks always did have that wild girl, witchy, bohemian, eccentric, sexy thing vibe going on. How many others could make baton twirling sexy?
