Lanni [FYI, a voiceover "artist"-not a SF fan]: "Tell us briefly what the "Last Colony" is all about?" Scali: "Well, indeed, it is epic [non sequitur], it's in the future, as often science fiction is." Following this vacuous introduction Scali goes on to disclose spoilers about the previous 2 books in this trilogy and more spoilers about this book. Fucking moron. Scalzi coyly evades a question about another book "in the same universe" even though he has already written one: "Zoe's Tale."
I haven't read the sequel's, but I think in the next book, John and Jane are reset into their original bodies to settle a new Colony. They are "retired" at this point. I have a feeling there will be very little technology for them and will be closer to an early 20th cenrtury environment as the story develops.
I just read Old Man's War, and enjoyed it immensely. Can't wait to start on the sequels. As for the female characters, so much of the time the men & women in SF are equal because they are not different. Not the case in Scalzi's universe, happy to say.
