Officially known that Anna Netrebko supports Putin. If this is truly the case then I must say Shame on you Anna Netrebko! I hope everybody who supports democracy, freedom of speech, middle and poor class in Russia will support my opinion on this. And I really hope that the case with Anna is not something closely terrible what happened to Mrs. Chulpan - Khamatova for whom I feel very sorry.
Although the beautiful and talented Anna Netrebko is most deserving of being on any list, the TIME magazine "most influential" list has been rendered almost as meaningless as being honored by the Nobel committee. Separately, she loves to sing and perform, but in what way is she influential other than to inspire with her voice?
I guess the role of an interviewer is to get the person relaxed and chatting about their work or their experiences.Thus,you have Englishman,Michael Parkinson who is the master of this.This guy here?! He asked some stinkers!!He probably had his last job at theKGB,hahahaha.
As a journalist, he should be able to present questions in a way that the person he is interviewing can understand, especially when it's not their first language. I think he hardly paraphrased his question when she didn't understand. He's being quite a snob.

I love opera and opera needs a singer like Anna to make the art form more accessible to people who wouldn't bother otherwise. She looks great and has tremendous stage presence. She's a natural actress. Her notes are centered and clean and her techinque is quite good. While she may not have a voice to equal a Flagstad or a Tebaldi, she can certainly hold her own with any of the current sopranos and that says a lot. Bravo Anna.

Netrebko is a Ukrainian last name (it is a common knowledge), so, yes she is not exactly Russian-Russian, and she looks very Ukrainian too.
As far as the interview goes, I agree, it is very difficult to hear two Russian people speaking English to each other; and yes, their English is not perfect, but you should take into account that she sings in couple of languages and the "opera language" is Italian, not English, besides she lives in Austria....so, again, Germanic (not English!).
She does; but he asks some dumb questions of a person whose first language is not English. Like 'How are you?' Philosophers can answer such questions, but we all do it everyday as part of a meaningless convention. She is not open to such nuances and therefore appears taken aback, don't you think?

And to all of the arrogant ignorant musicians out there giving the rest of us a bad name, please remember opera and classical music in Wagner's time when music was written for the people, Mozart writing operas about the people and satirizing the aristocracy that thought they were entitled to "high art". She tells nothing but the thruth. Opera is for those who can appreciate it. Requires a passion, a love for it. Musicall training and sensibility helps. Impossible to ask a rap lover to appreciate this music. A bible verse says" you do not throw pearls to the pigs" . Whathever you love, enjoy it, we need to respect and tolerate everyones tastes and differences. "Whatever makes you go through the night". Understanding your limitations, helps.

I think the interviewer was having a difficult time getting his question across due to both a bad earpiece for Anna, coupled with an imperfect command of the english language. they should have let her do it in russian with subtitles.

this video is great to study her personality and see what a nice chracter she seems to have. concerning the interviewer: well obviously anna didnt respond to the questions directly or sometimes not at all so he was actually forced to well repeat it in some different way. that made everything a bit tierding really. im surprised though they didnt mention rolando at all.
She's smart and delightful. Singers can take note about how to handle an interview and it turn out positive while showing approachable intelligence and integrity.

Netrebko deserved to be picked as one of the 100 most influential people in the world today.
Opera, which I love, is an endangered species. It desperately needed something "operatic" to rejuvenate it.
Netrebko, with her personal magnetism and irrepressible theatricality, has given opera a desperately needed shot in the arm.
It's hard to estimate the magnitude of her contribution, but is is surely considerable.

She does; but he asks some dumb questions of a person whose first language is not English. Like 'How are you?' Philosophers can answer such questions, but we all do it everyday as part of a meaningless convention. She is not open to such nuances and therefore appears taken aback, don't you think?

well when you're trying to communicate through an ear piece that doesn't seem to be working very well, as well as speaking a second language, it's hard to answer things accurately. they're usually on the same basic subject

Yes, the questions weren't so deep, but I think this interview is good for people who see Anna Netrebko for the first time. As for me I'm content about this video.
And her french and english aren't so bad.

She is so honest about everything. And to all of the arrogant ignorant musicians out there giving the rest of us a bad name, please remember opera and classical music in Wagner's time when music was written for the people, Mozart writing operas about the people and satirizing the aristocracy that thought they were entitled to "high art". So please don't belittle the other people out there who choose to express themselves in a different manner than you do.

She tells nothing but the thruth. Opera is for those who can appreciate it. Requires a passion, a love for it. Musicall training and sensibility helps. Impossible to ask a rap lover to appreciate this music. A bible verse says" you do not throw pearls to the pigs" . Whathever you love, enjoy it, we need to respect and tolerate everyones tastes and differences. "Whatever makes you go through the night". Understanding your limitations, helps.

Not every rap listener, sorry, but do yourself a favor as you grow older your musical taste will change as happens to everyone. It like our mouth which can simultaniously speak foul and beautifull words. You are intelligent enough to distinguish between all sorts of musical styles.

Her answer to the question about whether opera could be music for the masses was pretty arrogant. Sheesh, just because I don't know all the artistic nuances and subtleties of the music doesn't make me less qualified to appreciate the music. Why do these opera elites still perpetuate the notion that the music cannot belong to ordinary people?

Anna is a child of this new age and expresses herself with honest abandon not found normally in singers .There is only one other I can think of who had the same honest open personality and that was the late wonderful Beverly Sills .Sills had no qualms about facing up to her skills and the work that was often needed to grow.Anna is the same she is dedicated and fierce in her determination to be the best.Bravo Anna may your succeed despite your critics you have the gift now hone the skills

i dont think its "unpreparedness", either she couldnt hear the questions well or i dont know because mostly she answers something completely different than what was asked!!!

anna netrebko shines on this interview. she exudes the brilliance, the passion, the beauty and the sensitivity of a great classical diva!
maria callas painted her time with her life and music. sarah brightman influenced a lot with her music and grace. now comes anna netrebko fulfilling her moment. these three sopranos will forever be in history. and they will forever be in my hearts.

I think she did a great job on this interview...its pretty obvious that she did not get a chance to prepare the answers...and if there is anything I know about opera singers (I am one) it is that we don't like being put on the spot....I don't like to talk in general...let alone answer questions on the spot on TV! Uugh!

Umm, sorry, but I see her "unpreparedness" as something else. Notice how relaxed she is and when she is answering the questions, she throws away all formality, and is almost laughing at the questions posed for her. Because of that, I think she's very clever. And not stuck up like all the other opera singers!!

I think the interviewer was having a difficult time getting his question across due to both a bad earpiece for Anna, coupled with an imperfect command of the english language. they should have let her do it in russian with subtitles.

Well really I don? t like her at all. She is a good looking woman, but they exist others... As a singer I find her voice without color in the high notes, The medium is a bit strange for a soprano, dark and her diction is not clear- Her french is bad.Well good luck!

i am not fond of her singing abilities -sorry am greek and maria callas fanatic-but I can see from this video that she is an honest -hard working chearfull and beutiful sexy person who is still studying and which will definately improve even more .the fact that she was a cleaner I beleive is an asset ,don't forget that most well known opera stars came from poor families that only had ambition to expess theirself through singing.

I am a fanatic fan of Maria. She was unique Anna has a good voice but she lacks personality vocal and interpretative. She looks well and she is still young well. She has to improve Voice, craft, diction, expressivity. her Traviata / Horrid production) and her Manon do not give me emotion. Well you are Greek and i French- May be it is not totally her fault. She is singing too much.Another Maria is not here yet, may be ?????

this video is great to study her personality and see what a nice chracter she seems to have. concerning the interviewer: well obviously anna didnt respond to the questions directly or sometimes not at all so he was actually forced to well repeat it in some different way. that made everything a bit tierding really. im surprised though they didnt mention rolando at all.

I don't think that the interviewer was bad, it's just that not every great opera singer, who Anna certainly is, has necessarily bright and interesting thoughts worth sharing with the rest of the world.

How interesting that most people swiched their unsatisfaction with her talks to blameless man. Is this power of her look? I also very surprize that they did not mention Rolando at all. He is The Big Part of her "world influence".
