you don´t have to close the project. you can change once the selection in the overview pulldown to "device" and back to "simulator" again.
the new SDK will be shown. if not, then probably there is a user defined target SDK version set.

Thanks u so much for taking the time to do this video!!!!! I was going to shoot somebody over this, I have 10 plus apps that i'm been working on and I did the same thing. Thanks again for taking the time to post this.
