I thought ducks consider the first whatever they see when they hatch as their parents? How come they see you as a parent if you didn't hatch them from eggs?
Well I live in Nj and people can't say too much about me having a duck or two in my house. I have one so far and I'm getting another one. I raised my first duck named Mickey I raised her since she was a little small ducky. And my family really loves her she is so cute and she is always finding a way to get onto the kitchen sink to sit in the water. I love her so much. I found her when she was on the ground in my back yard and there was no parent so I decided to take her in as my own.
it appears that at least one of ur ducks is a boy! i thought they were both girls but i saw the curled up tail feathers! aria (my baby duck thats bout a week old) never leaves my side! she's/he's sittin in my lap as we speak
See ;( sad story. I had a similar situation! I got 1 male mallard duck last year in august. Then we got 2 more, which we thought were both girls. On Oct.6th our first duck died from sickness. About a week later out tan female died. From a raccoon! It almost killed our other duck, now named Lucky, which is actually a boy! So I bring him inside our house every single day. He started to hop on my lap, and even my back 2 day! He rode me like a horse! What a cool duck xD
If you don't mind, can you tell me how big your yard is? I'm getting 6 ducks and im affraid that they will tare up my yard. Yours looks fine, just a few feathers here and there.
@RockinHBWJunior You'll need to look up a duck farm or rescue center on google. As far as permits or legal issues, that depends on where you live. Yep, great pets but they do bite (usually because they like you). Pekins, campbells, and some others can't really hurt. Muscoveys, however, can really do some damage. You don't want them.
@GordiVEVO I don't know if you've already found your answers, but ducks are absolutely legal in Canada! Anyone can own a duck and I know dozens of people who do own ducks and even own ducks in the city because they are fenced in the backyard in a way that no neighbour cats or dogs can reach them, with a pond and often a cat door so they can come inside!
@Bubbaist i had 2 muscoveys, they just kinda did there own thing cuz we live on the river and they just kinda wondered around, but they passed away :/ R.I.P Jeff&Lida (yes, named after the wrestlers :P)
ok you are like the duck expert ok if you watch my crazy ducks 2010 video you will see my little mallard linky doesnt like being touched before we got him he was at a place called dorse millens its like a farm store and idk if someone did something to him or not while was there is just scared of being touched i can catch him and pet him but he hates it what do i do :(
I'm sorry about your loss with Amos. It does suck to lose a pet. After we had to put my Dachshund down a couple months ago, I was an emotional wreck. How old was Flapper when you got her? Which ones would be better as pets, females or males? Which ones are usually the most talkative? I *love* birds that have cute noises, which is why I adopted 2 Ringneck Doves from the Humane Society. I *love* they're cooing && laughing sounds, && I love how the male Doves dance.
@STFUxShorty Sorry to hear about your Dachshund. Flapper was about 6 weeks or so. Males are quieter and I think they are somewhat more likely to imprint. I like doves too. Good luck.
"You're the greediest duck!" for some reason that phrase cracked me up so much!!! :) Love your videos & your ducks!!!

@Georgenyc2010 Poultry pellets. You can get them at a feed store, just make sure they aren't medicated.

Maybe this is a silly question, but I really don't know: can ducks be toilet trained to poop in particular areas of the yard?
thibaulthalpern 2 years ago
the answer is no..they don't have muscles to control pooping
however you can buy diaper if you want to keep them at home
