  • if u hav a computer, gl. u will need outside power. even with solar panels and wind power.

  • NOT TRUE - Our off-the-grid Zero Energy Design® buildings with off-peak energy storage demonstrate that you do NOT need any unsustainable expensive-fuel outside untility-company power source.

  • very insightful and helpful video... Just wish I wasn't dead poor 8(

  • thank you .. and a good question is WHY do we continue to use outdated methods on NEW construction???Is it(the old ways)really cheaper?

  • union's, building code's, make getting acceptance in new construction as it was.. (all things changing now) very difficult. Long term testing on brand new products, prototypes (takes time) & the strong lobby's to block, & defend for the status quo makes penetrating new markets with better, modern or upgraded products difficult. Solar Control films for glass should be sold by A/C company's & not by agents of glass manufacturer's who prefer selling glass & coatings. Not Films - change is here eh?

  • I am trying to start shielding sun exposed walls and even roofs with tensioned shade cloth.

I worked for some time with a company who installed shade structures. I believe that fabric mounted 12-18" above a black roof would block the sun and a layer of cooler air would insulate the whole house from the sun's heat.

  • I have been installing passive solar capture and control systems on over 100 major buildings across Canada-35yrs-from The Bank of Canada-Home Depot-Best Westerns-savings of $4-5,000 per month-applications reduce A/C tonnage 60-70%-Reducing up to 85% of incoming solar gain-it should be by law on every building in our society-huge Low-E and hi or low U-value's(depending on color's)-by capturing rad/ht and convection heat-Mylar solar films improve the outside envelope-I am surprised U did not incl

  • YouTube videos must be short. We've done it since 1979. We discuss glazing on our website & in our CD-ROM 800-page eBook plus 1200 "Three Decades Of Passive Solar Lessons Learned" DOE Workshop Slides. We use low-e insulated glass on the N/E/W (with minimal glass, depending on climate). We do NOT use low-e glass on the south (equator side) solarium, since it would greatly reduce desirable winter solar gain. We use movable insulation to reduce heat loss at night. Our ZED TBZ can eliminate A/C.

  • 1st good 4-U- 2 -B spreading the word on passive solar & your team. Minimal glass, yes, but in fact most condo's, houses have not minimal (sliding doors, floor 2 ceiling, or high triangle glass all huge energy waster's. intense solar gain, (to hot) can be reduced hugely 70+% by applying the proper solar control film to glass pane's. Heat loss, through glass over 18-20 hrs of non-solar gain has always amounted to more loss than gain, with out the metalized solar control & capture films so needed

  • its great rose macaskie. I thought of a peice of informacion that might interest you. IN on eprat of marrocco they use a type of volcanic gravel on the roofs that absorbes lots of water and keeps their houses cool.

  • Morocco is a very DRY dessert heat, where volcanic perlite used for their hydroponic rooftop gardens does have a phase-change evaporative cooling effect, in combination with "green roof" plants. This arid-region cooling technique does NOT work as well in hot climates with relative humidity above 45% (like southeastern USA, Gulf Coast, etc.).

  • Thanks so much! This is a wonderful summary of passive solar temperature control. I'm linking it to my website that details a specific design. Well done.

  • white shiny roof? thats what I need. why did they built the black roof? I have to be naked in the summer. I'm moving out anyway.

  • Good... Very Good. Wow! only a few people in this world knows about this stuff.

  • here wuz a lil girl walking down a hallway of an old hotel when a man stabbed her in the back of the head. if u just read this comment, then her dead body will appear in ur bedroom doorway unless u post this comment on 3 other viedos

  • Suprising how little these ideas cost, In Queensland Australia now design engineers must approve the energy efficiency design of every home using these ideas.

  • narration is TOO DAMN SLOW zzz fell asleep. nice vid tho

  • Great video on how to passivly cool and heat your home with passive solar energy techniques. I wish builders would learn how to build like this. Either the politicians will have to make them or we home buyers have to demand this kind of home design.

  • Loved it. I could never understand how you could use solar heat from the sun to cool mu home even during those hazy, hot and humid days of summer. Tx
