So beautiful!...omg!...im only 19 but this summer i think im going to head out there on my own from Ohio for my own little vacation. I want to see that so bad!
I'm a NYC boy born and raised. I took this drive to Los Angeles three years ago and I was terrified! I'd rather drive in midtown Manhattan any day. It was beautiful though.
I loved Colorado when I lived there. The future you get away from the city the more you can experience the beauty of nature. It's amazingly beautiful there.
That sounds like a great idea for a video. I'd do it, but I haven't been in Colorado for over ten years now. And unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting back there anytime soon. Maybe someone else can make it.
Wow--it looks like you're going like 90 miles per hour uphill. People drive faster now than when I drove. We went to Aspen in 1974 and 1976 in the summers. We are not rich, except in knowledge. I'm a Colorado native.
June 2008 I drove this path as well as old 30 from Ohio to Denver. This section in the video is a testament to mankind. The section through Glenwood Canyon was one of the last sections of Interstate Highway to be built.
The challenge was how to squeeze a modern, four-lane freeway into a gorge barely wide enough to accommodate the existing two-lane highway without significantly damaging the environment.
Watch and listen to this video the words are so true and heart felt.
To get a literary grasp on the Colorado Rockies I recommend reading some of the books written by naturalist Enos Mills. He was the main influence behind Rocky Mountian National Park. The man was a little crazy however. He used to track and study Grizzly Bears without a gun.
Here's a kicker, I'm a native Texas BUT my heart belongs to the ROCKIES. In fact by the end of this month, I will become a NATIVE Colorado guy, OH BOY I cant wait !! BTW the video was wonderful. Thank You.
We just went through there on a cross country trip. Up on top of one of those peaks, you just GET what John Denver is signing about. Kinda like a York Peppermint Pattie!
Good timeing on driving through the rockyd during the day because travlers driving on I-70 from New York to Calafornia go through the rockys and rember
Driving through the rockys at night is Dangerus becasue the hill are diffcult and roads are very cervy, and if you driving to or from Calafornia from or to New England I recomend going through the rockys during the day and at night you would be crussing through the great planes.
I've been to Colorado several times b4 via driving in Colorado,,,I've traveled on the road allover Colorado,,,,never got bored,,,,hated Denver and C. springs traffic. West bound I70 after the tunnel,,,the scene was pretty nice.
Great idea...Great song.. But being from Colorado, I think you could have done better with the scenery and not taken shots of the I-70 corridor through Silverthorne.. Not among my most scenic places in Colorado.. Head over towards Aspen on Independence Pass or the San Juans and you'll see what I mean..
Probably, but I shot this video about the time I was relocating from Denver to the Bay Area. Aspen wasn't on my itinerary. I think this video was just a quickie to remember the route I'd traveled a lot of times. Anyway I-70 trough Glenwood Canyon would be close to the top of my list of most scenic places in CO. JMHO.
This is the best drive! The first part of the video is on I-70 between the west portal of the Eisenhower Tunnel and Frisco, CO. The second part is Glenwood Springs. This song is perfect for driving from Denver to Grand Junction. :) Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, this video was taken June 24 1998. The Canadian Rockies is at the top of my list places to visit in the future. BC and Alberta were in my plans for my road trip in 1997, but I had to cut the trip short, due to lack of time. So next time for sure.
hi i am from alberta canada bottom west corner by the rockies i love going there i am a truck driver and i just love that stretch of rouad vary nice video man just love it john denver rocks
Awesome video! I was to Colo. in 96, but only had a 35mm camera. Nothing is like being there in person, but this video shows the grand scale of these majestic mountains much better than a picture can. People from back east have no idea what it's like to drive for an HOUR towards a mountain that looked like it was 5 minutes away, and you're still NOT EVEN CLOSE!! :)
Absolutely beautiful scenery and John Denver's music fit perfectly. If there is one stretch of road I absolutely must drive before I die, this is the one! Many thanks for the ride!
oh boy i miss colorado... my mom moved there and i go there once a year every summer. its so beautifull! john denver is such a good singer. i love this song!
hey man great video, hey my name is chris nicholas i was born and raised and still live in colorado canon city to be exact im 17 years old and yea this is a butiful state and im glad u made this video bra
im from there..i grew up there..when i was a teenager, it sucked to live in such a boring place..just mountains man..how boring..i live in tokyo now..i see the first turn before no name, and the couple of turns after grizzly creek, and i cry..i hope my son will ride the bike trail with me when we return home..(to the Rocky Mountain High)..Living abroad makes you strong, but you can never be stronger than your roots..bitchin vid..please post more local..glenwood springs and aspen..
A guy goes to every church in the world and sees a gold telephone which says talk to god. After visiting many countries he noticed that the prices were all different. He eventually got to a church in the rockies which was only 1cent for every minute, he picks up the phone and asks why its so cheap in the rockies, well god replied its a local call son.
my son's ashes are spread all over the Rockies.. Winter Park, Mary Jane, Berthoud... he died in his 27th year and went home to a place he's never been before.. thank you so much for this video... It means so much to me to see this... and hear this song along with the scenes.. He loved those mountains...

The Rocky Mountains is where I want my ashes spread when I die. It's where I always wanted to be & is written in my will. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen!
Um yeah. The car is a 1989 Honda CRX. I still drive the same car every day for my job. Its bit old now, and not as fast as it was when I made this video. But it still runs great.
At time stamp 1:06 that road going up is a run away truck ramp. I love driving in the mountains, I've driven this road more times than I can remember and I never get tired of it. Road trip anyone?
i do this drive every weekend to go snowboarding. i kow exactly where your at. i could do the drive a million times and not get tired. thank you and thank you john denver.
Recently moved away from the great state of Colorado. I was missing the scenery! Thanks for this video. I know exactly where all this was filmed. Just reminds me of home.
Is British Columbia your neck of the Canadian terrain? Sorry for geographical ignorance. Do the Rockies run north through Canada? Or is there another mountain range?
I could honestly watch this vid a million times over and still cry at the first clip of snowcaps, walls of trees and blue sky.
What you have in Canada sounds magnificent but the comment I made earlier deals with the USA (only)I've never been to Canada but I would like someday to go. Health and money are a couple reasons I can't right now.
That's subjective. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Some people like to think theirs is the best, and others like to see the best in everything they see. That's what I strive to do.
If anyone hasn't already done so on any of these videos, and if it's in your budget...DO get a good set of computer speakers with a subwoofer. It's awesome to listen to a CD, but it's yet another experience to watch footage while listening to the music. Kind of like MTV or VH1, except you'll never see the likes of this on those channels.
Yea I agree thats irritating. But if I moved video down more in the letterbox. You'd see more of the window tint line. Which would be even more irritating. Plus you'd see a lot of sky, and not much road. Trust me. This was the best compromise.
Wonderful video and wonderful song. I'll take the windshield wipers over not having the opportunity to "take me back" to so many things when JD was still alive. I hope more people continue doing this like this.
Flew into Denver and drove the same route to Aspen and then took road trips all around, finally departing out over Independence Pass. I took my copy of the book Roadside Geology of Colorado by Halka Chronic and we had a great time checking out some amazing formations. Thanks so much for the video-it brought back some wonderful memories. BTW: that was some tunnel-I could almost feel the weight of the mountain over my head <grin>.
Ky has its own natural beauty especially in the eastern part of the state(red river gorge),,i hiked most of ky. Few years ago I've visted colorado went hiking and camping,,,loved it,,,its been 2yrs since I've been to colorado...I want to comeback and live there....nxt rd trip to colorado i'm gonna include john denver in the music library....thanks an80sguy.
I've always loved John Denver and his music. Just last month, my sisters and I drove this highway on the way to Las Vegas to see our brother. The scenery was breathtaking... love this video.
It remind me that when I first went to Aspen Camp (a deaf camp) during summer, we ( my mom, me and my mom's ex boyfriend) went up to I 70 west, and the view is very beautiful, go toward to Glenwood Springs/Aspen. I miss it so much, have not been go on I 20 since 1992 and 93
If anyone is interested, and wants to see this entire video in a higher quality version. Please click on the link in the description to see it on LiveVideo.
Hey Man! I really loved that! I have driven that same stretch many times, but live in India now. How did you hold the camera so still? Really did a good job! THANKS for sharing.
Thanks. Actually I'd have thank my late Dad for that. He was the camera man for all my driving videos. Looking at it now, he either did a really great job, or a really terrible job. No in between. I only edited the good video. The Sony Handycam SteadyShot probably helped too. :)
Looks likes gods counrty thair always respect the mountains !

"Nice view of windshield wipers"
Yea I agree thats irritating. But if I moved video down more in the letterbox. You'd see more of the window tint line. Which would be even more irritating. Plus you'd see a lot of sky, and not much road. Trust me. This was the best compromise.

Wonderful video and wonderful song. I'll take the windshield wipers over not having the opportunity to "take me back" to so many things when JD was still alive. I hope more people continue doing this like this.

Hi! This's very good video! Congratulations! I fell in love Colorado. Perhaps next year. I hope will go there.

I've always loved John Denver and his music. Just last month, my sisters and I drove this highway on the way to Las Vegas to see our brother. The scenery was breathtaking... love this video.
