Im an engineer & Im so used to using the Leica TCR805 Total Station with the laser. My job have a very old total station and I can't remember the name of it but it does have an optical plummet. It seem like I downgraded since college but Im trying to get them to get some new equipment. I hate using optical plummets total stations. It's so much faster using the Leica's & TDS data collectors. I was knocking out culvert surveys in 1 day & by the way we had 1.5 minutes to set up a total station. LOL
ive been interning at a surveying firm as a draftsman for a couple months now, realizing I really had no idea how the actual surveying part worked! the video helped! thanks!
Was this your first time doing this???? You have no idea how too properly set up a total station. And since when do you ever set up a total station on an aluminum tripod? The gun is also set up far too low. You likely are having back troubles. Thanks for the laugh.
Thank you for this informative video. It was comprehensive and you thoroughly explained each step. This helped me tremendously with my undergraduate research assignment.
You made my heart skip a beat when you let go of your GTS-300 (one of my favorites)!
As an instrument technician, and having set up and taken down over 20,000 instruments without dropping one, I'm glad you know the "always have one hand on the instrument until it is locked down" rule!
@stevesrt8 Just leave the gun off, and get everything close with the tribrach only. Once you are close, you can put the gun on and fine tune it with out having to be rough on the instrument.
@stevesrt8 Honestly didn't think about having a tri-brach with out an optical plummet! We usually up the plummetless ones to the side since our tribrachs are topcon look throughs. . Sorry wasn't thinking.

Recently purchased a used Wild T2000 on eBay and was looking on YouTube for tips on setting up. Enjoyed the video in spite of the sound sync. Nice setting and colors. Helpful information. Interesting to see the slight variations that people have in setting up. Apologies for offerring a correction. The word is 'collimator' not 'colminator'. Thanks.
Great video but if they show readings on screen it would be great........

Thanks for the video. It's pretty pathetic that I have to turn to youtube to learn things I should be learning at the college I am attending.

But I wouldn't have dared to test it!
Cheers, and thanks for posting.

I always unclamp the leg while pushing it in. This will help prevent any shock to the instrument.

@guahcap Thats fine if you have an optical plummet. Most newer total stations have laser plummets in which this wouldn't work

Thanks for the input. I don't know why that is??
let me ask, what brought you to find this video? were you looking for surveying video? Are you in a college class?
